Well done Peter Jackson.

We finally gave him something to work with by having a decent year on field and he comes up with the goods.

Best draw in many years

Make the G our fortress and finish the season at 10 wins and 2 losses on the G (doable given our opponents) and then we only need to scrape together 3 wins and 7 losses everywhere else and we play finals.

You made wedding plans before the fixture came out?!

I know, I know. The ladyfriend wouldn't let me wait until October. :P

Bold AF, you organised a wedding before seeing the fixture. Not me.

Wasn't my choice, MD. Already made her wait ten years. Thought it was the right thing to do this time. We booked it for a Saturday night, so I thought I was pretty safe. She also said she didn't mind if I came straight from the game if it fell on a Saturday. She's a keeper. ;)

Here is each club's 'Wish Llist'.  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-26/your-clubs-fixture-wish-list

They actually all look reasonable -  except Essendon wanting 4 HOME games at the G.  It is NOT their HOME ground!!  I bet they will be against other Vic power clubs with lots of members so Ess can get great revenue.  Meanwhile, we will get i/state clubs and low member clubs to our home games.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

They got it - 4 home games vs Hawks Pies Tiges and Blues

Plus 2 Friday games and 7 Saturday night....

Spring carnival in full flight by then.

As I said, February is the only month to get married, or early March (which is when I did it).

Having said that I waited for the fixture the fact is the wedding was held in the middle of the Melb V Ess match at Windy Hill May 30 1987, I didn't go to Windy Hill ever! No problems, I had a mate give me updates during the wedding. We won 102 to 80, I won too.

Very happy with the Dees draw.

Only get one Friday night game, but get 3 Saturday nights, a queens birthday and Anzac Day eve.

Play the firs 7 games in Melbourne, the last 3 in Melbourne. Have no etihad stadium home games. Only play two of last years top 8 sides twice, and one of them is north Melbourne.

We also randomly play Geelong at etihad stadium and it's THEIR home game.

Very good chance of us winning a bunch of games early in the season putting us in good stead for a crack at making finals.

I believe Geelong does not have access to Simmonds in the first 8 rounds due to the new stand

From: The 21 AFL matches to watch in 2017

Round one, St Kilda v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium
On 14 straight occasions the Demons have lost to the Saints. The streak has to end at some point, so could 2017 be the year? Former Bombers will be prominent in this game, with Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham set to line up for the Dees, while Jake Carlisle is expected to play for the Saints.

Round six, Essendon v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium
The Bombers and Demons have had an interesting history of late and last year Essendon got the chocolates, shocking the Demons in round two to claim the first of their three wins for the year. Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham will come up against their old side for the first time after being two members of Essendon's suspended players to change clubs.

Round seven, Melbourne v Hawthorn, MCG
Jordan Lewis's arrival at Melbourne after four premierships and a best and fairest at the Hawks makes this a must-watch. The veteran played Melbourne 12 times with his only loss coming in round 20, 2016. He also polled 13 of his 69 career Brownlow votes against the Demons but he will want to prove to the Hawks he can dominate.

9 FTA channel 7 games is also great exposure for the club.

I noticed the Adelaide game in Darwin is one of the FTA games, as is the WC game in Perth. Fantastic for us our interstate games have never been FTA .

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
