Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sad to say our Sign up and be counted was one of the least inspiring (for me); along with We are Gold Coast and Be more Bulldog

What about: Here come the Demons! or Show your heart beats red and blue or whatever!  Reckon we can find something more inspiring to stir potential members, than Sign up and be counted.

I reckon  North's is better than ours !!

Lazy reporting bb. A check of North's website (which I did before posting the article) would tell the reporter that North's is The Shinboner Spirit!

I reckon retiring Harvey et al has cost them big time in membership numbers, even with Tassie!

Somewhat off-topic, recently I was thinking are any "football" clubs listed on the stock exchange, and I found out that some of the usual big names in soccer world are on some markets around the world.

I don't know if it would work, but an idea none the less, as we have IG a sponsor these days and that the demographic of Melbourne supporters are involved in the stock market either as a profession or investor or both. But as another avenue of potentially raising funds, would there be enough benefits over negatives for the MFC to be a club on the market?

While Memberships are great, I still don't feel like I'm apart of the club whether thats the aim or not, it would be nice if you could be involved by "owning" a share. Any brokers/financial experts in here that could weigh in on the pros/cons, might just be a stupid crazy idea thats in my head.

North tried that - didn't work out too well for them

Ha, yes, Carlton supporters still insist they have won the most premierships, at 16.4 - that's including 20% of North's premierships in the 90s.

Yes not one of Bob Ansett's best ideas!

Interesting discussion with my niece on Christmas Eve (her and her partner are Melbourne barrackers, yet I have not been able to convince her to join or to enrol her her eldest toddler)! She spoke about Collingwood FC's Netball Team and the fact that she followed a lot of their player's, some of whom were recently poached from the Melbourne Vixens. She also mentioned that a number of the netball teams around Australia were directly aligned to other AFL and NRL teams, yet the  Melbourne Vixens were not. She thought that it would be very positive and consistent with our Women's AFL Team, if we aligned with the Melbourne Vixens, thereby increasing our appeal to many women who followed both codes.

Food for thought as we seek a competive edge in a city with nine AFL teams.

Some observations from the membership tally so far. Although we are substantially ahead of past years most of the substantial leap in memberships happened between late October and late November. Since then the rate of increase through to early Dec and then late Dec has been at the same rates as previous years or even slightly less.

So the total may not be as much of a leap as the present numbers are showing as maybe we got a lot more member earlier than in the past probably with direct debits.

We seem to usually maintain the rate of increase so that's around 3000 at this point which would put us around 42,500 to 43,000.  However, if through the preseason and the early rounds of the season the team shows the improvement we are all hoping for there might be a larger increase. Here's hoping on all counts.

This stereotype needs to be knocked on the head once and for all. MFC supporters now ski in Japan. These ski holidays do not clash with the AFL season proper!

No

We need to exploit this perception. Increase potential sponsorship by joining with a 4 wheel drive vehicle (Subaru)

Market on the mountains Scarves at retail outlets Gloves and jackets in club colours etc

Wecan always wear them in Japan and open up a new international market.

I think you find your first point is right, the club is or was closed from around the 20/12 and either returned yesterday or next Monday. Each year the office closes for 3 weeks over Christmas

The site is [censored] but it's not the clubs problem, Its contracted to (then outsourced by) Telstra.

Surely the content on the site is the club's responsibility? (Having said that, I could see that the specific point being made on this thread about a meter showing the number of members might actually be the out-sourced contractor's responsibility).

The coaches are back, the players are back, Burgo has been posting quizzes, we have been getting player updates on both the Men's and Women's teams! Why not  either automate the membership tally or entrust somebody to do it? Sorry Saty, we don't all agree with you on this! ☹️

Yeah I was refering to both the automated meter and the fact it looks and feels outdated. But as for content the club would have control to a point, it depends on how the contract and website work. There would likely be some facility for the club to add content as they please but I would suspect there may be some instances where they have to put in support requests to the contractor.

Of course this is all just guessing based my limited experiances in the industry, only thing I know for sure is that the AFL contracted telstra years ago to host their site(s) and the AFL app as well maintain them. Being telstra, they are not interested in actually spending any significant time and effort maintaining anything they passed the work on. The app was outsourced to Outware in 2011 but as of 2017 Hawkeye is taking over that and I'm not sure who they outsourced the website to.

Nah that's cool, just thought the posters knowing that most of the membership staff work 7 days a week during the season with the occasional weekend off, would cut them a bit of slack at Xmas

When Telstra first got the contract for the AFL sites, each club was limited to the amount of content that they could submit for change each day....unless they wanted to pay an absolutely extortionate amount extra.

So if you look at any other clubs site ( except Essendon, who were not party to the agreement, and perhaps Collingwood who have spent a bucketload to alter things) you will see the same format and  the same layout.  And they all have the same restrictions about content limitations.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
