The 2017 Membership Thread

I may have missed it, but have we been doing the big discount memberships like some of the other clubs?

Today Geelong are selling home game memberships (11 VIC games) for $99.00

A couple of weeks back I think it was North who upgraded anyone who bought a 3 games membership to a 11 match home game membership.

If we are not doing this, why not?

Obviously we'd lose a little $ in the short term, but if those new members stay on, then surely it'd be beneficial in the long run?

Well I re-signed my mum up on the day of the melbourne/carlton pre season game at Casey which was 3 weeks ago. I filled out the form and the girl said she couldn't process payment but wrote down my credit card details on the form. So far 3 weeks later money hasn't been taken from my account so it obviously hasn't been processed. I emailed the membership department on friday as I work before and after office hours and got no response.

So at some satge 1 more will be added to the total. Just hope they haven't lost my form.

More than likely they will charge u twice!!

Not sure of exact numbers but Geelong are playing a lot of Home games at Etihad as their ground is not available, and their members probably won't go up the highway.

North play a few Home games in Tassie so their Vic members don't travel there.  That deal is probably pitched to Tassie members.

In both cases they are not giving much away.

We will probably offer that sort of deal in a few months when we have played a few Home games so there is less value in a full membership.

Geelong are playing 2 games at Etihad (North & us) and another 2 at the G (Pies & Hawks).  The remaining 7 games are all at Skilled.

Even if their members dont travel up the highway, thats still 7 games for $99, which is less than half the usual $215 for a regular 11 match home game membership.

As for North, don't they get compensation games like we do for the two NT fixtures?

Even if not, they are only playing 3 of their home games in tassie, so thats still 8 games for $99

If the club gave a hsit about catching them we would offer $1 (pay us later please!) memberships like the Saints are offering...

.....  or the other North/Geelong options I mentioned a few posts back.

Other clubs are starting to think a bit outside the square to get new members on board. We need to too.

I am far away, but the club has found me.

Well done to the club but I will have to do better to cover my tracks.

Seriously Ernie with the life that you led do you think a Demon would have any trouble finding you, probably in the hell hole next door.

North have just done a heap of school visits.  North have a program that all Preps receive a free family home game membership, so every one that signs up for this that's 4 members.  The Bulldogs have a similar deal.  These numbers are so manipulated these days they don't reflect the true membership base.  I will bet the West Coast Eagles and Adelaide generate more revenue from their members that Collingwood and Hawthorn. Essentially that is what counts, how much revenue does each club generate and match day attendances(hard to compare club v club due to a bias fixture)

Not doubting the accuracy on this Cards but when i listened to our membership day on SEN i heard nothing along these lines. Just an ordinary plea to join the club by Robbo in a brief advertisement with a very lame "Go Melbourne" catch cry from him at the end. Inspirational stuff! Could have been talking about the city! Whatever happened to Carn' The Demons! In fact whatever happened to the Demon? Sadly  appears to have been completely wiped as a mascot in all marketing other than potentially on game day with Chucky etc and a few old retro style t-shirts/tops. :(

100% correct, no point getting upset that we've got less members than another club who's giving them out. I've never seen a list (nor do I know if it exists) to show what revenue each clubs membership brings in (as a net figure) - making sure to deduct any allowance's for membership give away's etc.  I think we'd be reasonably competitve in the area.

Old man Gary Lyon mentioned it Rust.

I got an email today asking members to attend as many home games as possible.

There are incentives for the number of games attended.

Are they under pressure to maintain our home games at the "G" ?

Prob more wanting big crowds at home games for leverage in better time slots, to take to potential sponsors etc.

Might be the BOJ ones ?

If they sign a deal that includes more money for attendance to home games or they might sign a one year deal and want lots of numbers to show me potential sponsors.  Also lots of numbers look good on tv. Most of or games shows massive amounts of empty seats.

Part of the problem is that the cameras are in the on the northern side of the Ground and show the Seats on the southern side.

The members mostly sit on the northern side so are largely unseen on TV.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
