Could not agree less. I would absolutely offer them both one year contract extensions. Not on very much coin though.

Agree with Ron. Maybe 2 years on not a lot of coin, but if Jones goes down we need Trenners. Grimes is good back up on the wing and also for Jetta. You need 30 players - not just 22

Trenners deserves another chance but unfortunately I can't see a spot for Grimes.

I'd bring Grimes in for a farewell game to get him to 100 games. For mine the club owes him that after the crap he has had to put up with. Solid citizen and model professional but his decision making and disposal is average. 

I'd keep Trengove and see how a preseason following a full season of footy after 2 years out sets him up for 2017. Smart footballer, great overhead and good disposal.

Its not as if we are short of players to delist.

I'd prefer to use two spots on our lists to uncover/develop the next Jayden Hunt. Keeping them on the list another year will send them into list clogger status. They're not going to be played at senior level. Let's get blokes who might.

Grimes has played 100 games for the club. I hope, if he moves on, we do all we can to help him get to his preferred destination.

 

WRT Trenners, I hope he gets a chance to do a preseason and comes back into the team and proves a lot people wrong!

Trenners needs to be given another year -  and a speed coach.  Perhaps John Quinn who found Jobe Watson a yard of pace. 

Unfortunately Grimes kicking and decision making will see him behind Hibbert, Malkshem, Salem, Hunt, Wagner off the half back flank.

Mate it's not about proving people wrong, it's about proving he can play the game with any kind of pace. Has done an amazing job in working to get back and play any footy let alone at a high level at VFL. Can he do it at AFL any more?

Yeah agree with this...Grimes will look elsewhere for more opportunity, Richmond you`d expect. Retain Trenners as a rookie, with a full pre-season he may still surprise.

If Trenners can have a big preseason and get back that yard of pace he seems to have lost, then he could easily excel again in the AFL. He is a smart footballer, good mark and kick and he is an endurance athlete who can run all day, a valuable commodity with the interchange limitations.

 

I am very confident that if JT gets his speed back, he'll again become a valuable member of our team.

The way the game has changed in the last year or so, speed and a big tank are critical.  We also need exceptional skills.

It will be Goodie's call.  However, when you look at the list, do you 'improve' it by replacing these two with untried or otherwise recycled players from outside?

I would suggest that both would be useful to keep.  Trenners can definitely use another preseason, and hopefully demonstrate the key skills that we know he can.  He is great cover and potentially can push back into the first 22.  Grimes would seem to need some additional skills, and does offer some experienced cover.

So, unless we have eyes on specific needs, or can't attract quality offers (Wasn't Trenners worth pick 12 to the toigs?) - we should pop these guys on lower, performance based contracts and set them the task of working their way back into the 22.

It's still just IFs though. We could keep giving him that chance for a huge preseason, or we could move forward with guys who can reliably provide more.
