Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Unless the recruiting team have their eyes on a certain player, I don't really see much need to trade back into the first/second round. Weideman is essentially our first pick this year and we have enough young guys at the club now as it is.

Agree.  We might have our eye on someone like Hunt and have a fair idea of where the competition is - I think that's why we took him at 57 when we did.  If so we will know whether 57 this year covers us or we need to upgrade.  Dunn + 57 + 59 for 47 could be a win-win anyway if we're only looking to draft 1 and upgrade 2.

Is Hibberd a better player than Melksham? Are they similar types? Did MFC need both? Are there any other questions I should be asking? If yes, what are they?

No questons, two good pickups along with Lewis    you need a minimum of 30 AFL ready players each week these days

Everyone looks great in highlights so take from these what you will.

Welcome Michael!

Looking forward to seeing you stream out of the backline along side Melksham, Salem and Hunt. We now have a 'warchest' of HBFers that can seriously break the game open (TBC for melky)

Hibberd is twice the player Melksham is. Ive watched most Essendon games the past 15 years (my old man is an Essendon fanatic). He laughed when they lost Melksham, he wasnt laughing when he found out they were losing Hibberd. Hibberd is actually a gun, he is very very good.

All those interpretations are correct.

Re pick 84 -  Newton's future is also in the balance and would can give us another list spot to fill - then we can use #84 at the draft...

Another general comment: I am keeping the 2016 Contract thread upto date with all changes re demons.  People should look at it before positing scenarios.

I'd be astounded if Newton was still on our list next year.

IMO Hibberd is a much better ball user. Hibberd is more defensive, plays as a defender, a good, long kick and is reasonably strong one-on-one. Melksham is a winger that could play off half back or half forward, use his pace and break some lines. But he's not extreme pace like Hunt. Personally, I think Melksham butchers it by foot, but can occasionally kick a good goal. A highly rated junior that crumbled a little bit IMO at AFL level. Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to Melbourne. Particularly with a year out of the game.

A little disappointed that his goals on the run from 50 seem to only just carry the line and don't go thumping over the fence. I thought he had more kicking penetration than that. But he can still hoof it and we don't have a defender who can regular get forward and goal so it's hard to complain there.

I think he'll need time to get back in to peak form and fitness but he's a good all around defender who does everything pretty well. That combination should really help our backline.

And we paid pick 23 for melksham and pick 29 for Hibberd. Its just the way it is sometime. You have to break an egg to make an omelete....

Hibberd is a great pick up for the club and immediately becomes our best halfback flanker. He's good defensively, has a bit of fight in him, and is a good rebounding halfback who can accumulate 20+ possessions easy. He'll be good for guys like Hunt and Salem to learn more off, but also so they can push further up and play on the wings. 29 is a bargain for him. He's borderline All Australian and Cats just gave up a first rounder for Tuohy, who is on par if not worse than Hibberd!

Lewis and Hibberd are both beautiful kicks of the ball, our skill level just got a really timely boost! as well as composure, experienced leaders.

And hopefully Salem staying on the park helps this too.

This is a really good pick up in my opinion, something we have lacked is some polish out the half back line (Salem was meant to be that this year but had his Thyroid issues). Now we've got Hibberd, Melksham, (Vince as well), and Salem as options back there plus Hunt with his run and carry.

Welcome to the Dees Michael!

Geez I'm pumped for round one. Think I'm going to go hibernate to pass the time. Off season is like a car trip interstate when you're a kid. It's better just to sleep it out.

Joking aside. Hilarious as it was. This is the first time in my rationally thinking life that it feels like we could really go somewhere. The pickups we have secured arent speculative, hopeful (although maybe I am) or stopgaps. They are good players that fill roles we are ready to fill, not desperately need to fill.

We did shaft them.  Hibberd is a ready made gun and if he had nominated another club with a higher pick, he would have gone for that.

Next move.  Dunn, Pick 57 & 59 (340 points) to the filth for Picks 47 (316) & 83 (0) .  Puts them in a better position re father/sons.

The trade next years future 2nd Round Pick to Saints for 36.

Instead of Pick 47 in this scenario, would it be worth more to us to try for their next years 3rd round pick?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
