Cannot wait to see Hogan, Weideman and Watts all in the same forward line.

Will be a glimpse of hopefully an imposing, scary forward line that will be a powerhouse in the years to come.

Agreed, but whilst I was pretty impressed with what he did against Hawthorn, I'd rather see Weid put on a bit of meat after another good preseason before we throw him in the deep end.

I'm beginning to agree with some others on this forum that the Roos talk of making early draft picks earn their spot and bringing them in when they are ready has been almost just talk at times.

Pleasantly surprised by the changes. Michie is better than the no hoper he gets painted as on here, and ANB has smashed the door down. Good luck to both.

i would've kept Pedo personally but if Weed is fit then he has showed he's capable.

Ditto this post.

Only thing I can recall is where was running into an open goal and missed it. Maybe that was selfish coz he could have offloaded it? But if he'd kicked it, all would be forgiven.

I reckon it's got nothing to do with selfish acts, etc, and more to do with Pedo not being the future.

The coaches want to find out more about what is our best lineup and they're not going to be distracted by the sudden possibility of making the 8. They've done it all year and it's working. Weed's first game against the reigned champs on top of the ladder! Why change now and retreat into our shells?

If they'd stuck to a rigid idea of our "best 22" all year we'd still be playing Dunn and Garland and wouldn't have uncovered Hunt OMac or Frost.

I do recall that missed goal and agree it was more a clanger than selfish - most players should have gobbled that one up every day of the week.  I hardly think it is worth dropping a player over.

I get that there is a long term agenda at play too, but I wouldn't call the opportunity to play finals (whatever the slim chances) a distraction.  I'd call it what the team should be playing for.  With only two games remaining, I think the long term benefits of developing a few players is overshadowed by the developments available to the whole team of gaining finals experience and we should be picking our best/in form side to win both remaining games.

While that might be true, the evidence is that they aren't focussed on finals. Especially when you consider that it is likely Roos would kill to get us into the finals to cement his place as a footy miracle worker. Whereas getting a bit more knowledge for 2017 does little for his reputation (public reputation at least).

Not quite sure where you are going with this, as I don't see Roos as "killing" for the sake of his reputation - I think he has now done enough to establish that regardless, although finals would be nice icing on the cake for that.

Along similar lines though, one thing this year will do though is raise expectations put a lot of pressure on Goodwin and the players to continue the rise next year.  I am hoping that transition is as smooth as the club has been aiming for.

I'm implying that Roos may have put his own 'glory' second to building the team for the future.

Danger Danger Danger, this game has danger written all over it. We should smash them but lets hope they are not thinking more about the Geelong game. We saw today what happens when you are planning on playing the USA and forget about beating Serbia first.

Serbia were in the semis for a reason, they just outplayed the Boomers, with the new breed we have and after the Essendon game, I doubt we would have any mindset apart from having a real crack against Carlton

Lost to both Essendon and carlton last year. I hope they have learnt a lesson.

Its a cliche, but "We're just taking it one week at a time" is the only way to succeed ...

After having a day or so to look at the changes and mull it over, I am happy with them.

Pedo out, I love Pedo, rated him for the last 2 years, but I think this could be a master stroke from the selection board...
Having Pedo out frees up CHF and a big body around the square therefore Hogan can go from FF to CHF and patrol the square enforcing himself around the ground.
To me this looks like it will leave Weideman and Watts free to use their clean hands and fluid kicking at FF/FP without over crowding the forward line.
Meanwhile as we will have Hogan up the grouns we will really be stretching their defence when we get on the reboud with the Carlton players struggling to figure out who to man up on.
Garlett out for injury and bringing ANB in as a quick FP will be good too, ANB has been playing good and sems to be playing with confidence which will be great coming into the game tomorrow.
Harmes (Love him) has been plagued by poor descisions and inefficiency along half back which is the worst place to be poor in your decision making so rewarding Michie with his rich vein of VFL form would be a good decision. (I am well aware that this is Michies last roll of the dice when it comes to playing in red and blue also)

If we can come out and attack the game as we did in the first half against the Power and the entire game against the Hawks we will run off as 10+ goal winners.
I saw what we were capable of doing when I travelled to the Gold Coast mid way through the year when we blew them away in a single quarter and I am comfortable with the fact that we are strong enough as a team to annihalate a team in 2 quarters of footy (Fremantle, Port, GCS) let alone a genuine 4 quarter effort.

I hope the coaching staff and the senior players step up this week and understand that complacency in a week like this will undo ALL the seasons work and will be absolutley humiliating.

The entire AFL is behind us, Good players are mentioning that their destination club is Melbourne, we are winning races for highly rated class B rookies, and talking about genuine finals chances in round 22, I have done nothing but read positive articles and read positive comments about the demons for the last fortnight.
Tomorrow is the most important game of the season to me and the playing group should know this too.

I am excited, I am scared, I am anxious, I am happy.

Dees will win this by 6+

we are seriously better than the Blues.

We need to go for the throat from the start and keep it there.

No excuses.

Blues are tired, not that strong and nothing to play for.

12 goal win minimum.

Pedersen was dropped for selfish acts and pulling out of contests.

My personal view only, after tearing my hair out multiple times over his efforts last week.

He adds value to the side, but I don't think he'll be around a lot longer because he doesn't play the "right way."

Are you serious? Sorry, were you watching?

You're usually ok, but this is complete rot.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
