Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

If we play that badly next year, but win every game including the finals and Grand Final, I'll put up with it.

You're more your 'glass half full' bloke aren't you? Let me tell you something my friend (before you post another thing), you've walked into the wrong bar. This is the bar of Broken Dreams'.  You want the GWS bar, where there's plenty of room, excepting Phat Phil and everyone's so damn happy.

I'm amused that three individual footballers will receive Brownlow Medal votes from that match.

Quite funny that in a game in which the players showed an inability to execute the fundamentals of the game we had an umpire paying a 50 that showed an inability to understand the basic rules of the game

They should have interviewed Bernie after the game...."So Bernie.....interesting game today.....was it hard trying to dig a hole in the MCG turf to hide in?"

Injured.

From a stupid Watts kick, where he should have either put it down Jesse's throat or kicked the goal himself.

That was right in front of us. Jesse has every right to remind Jack how he sustained that injury.

Not the only poor decision by an MFC player today, but if it's anything worse than a corkie, could be a very damaging poor decision/skill execution.

Winning ugly beats the other option (like last week and also Norf ). Message might have got through this week). The whole matter of Hogan needs addressing.

The worst standard I've seen us play in Paul Roos' tenure. Regardless if the result it was amongst the worst I've seen us play ever.

What makes it really sad was we fielded perhaps our best side and GCS had half a midfield.

On another matter if we wanted another midfielder we would play one, we actually want a full forward who will kick a few goals, Hogan is not a roaming unaccountable mid he is supposed to be a power forward that kicks goals.

I have a European partner who has refused to watch a second of AFL all year despite my contention that it's not all that complicated to understand. Until Round 19, that very second, when she stopped in front of the TV: 'What's going on?'

'[censored] if I know.'

It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning. I'd rather the 4 points than not.

Agree DD.  We fell over the line and some Demonlanders are heading for the bottle.  I dread to think what their 'escape' might have been if if the final score had been reversed.

Dawes the most useless player in the comp. Garlett the laziest. Bernie Vince needs a huge kick in the arse for his recent form.

It is a win but feels like a loss.

Can't blame Garlett.  Our ball movement and forward entries were ebismal.  We need to clear out the forward line and move the ball much faster for Garlett to have an impact.

I'm still shaking after that one! I thought Tom Lynch would dob that goal.

I went to lunch with my wife and inlaws and only really got to see the second half. I was certain we would lose.

Positives:
* Jack Watts: journos have tried for years to find someone to compare him to some player from years past be it Jonno Brown, Nick Riewoldt or Adam Goodes.  I think Jack is now becoming known for being Jack Watts. Consistent effort (try and say that 3 years ago), on field leadership and knowing what to do with the ball at the exact right moment are now what he is becoming known for. Soon Queens' Birthday will be something that will be bought up in his Open Mike interview after he retired as a bizarre incident during his career.

* Max Gawn: Didn't have a real ruckman to go up against but anyone who gets 60 hitouts in a game is doing alright. It would be nice if our mids could actually finish off some of his good work.

* Dom Tyson: Second good game in a row. Good to see him bounce back from 2015 as well as he has. I'm sure he will figure in Bluey voting (Maxy Gawn will win it but Dom is in line for a top ten finish).

Negatives:

*Decision making: Up till the last minute, we found some way to let them back in. Decisions that seemed elementary seemed to take a power of thinking. Is that tiredness from the Perth trip?

*Bernie Vince: Before I get pounced on saying that I want Bernie out of the team, that's not the case. Today was the one time he was horribly, horribly off. Make no mistake about it. He found the pill (21 times according to the AFL website). His decision making however was awful. He nearly gave the bloody game back to the Suns in the last 30 seconds after Jack had taken the mark in the goal square. I'm sure he will bounce back though.

* Strong bodies in the backline: While we have Tommy McDonald and Frosty, I think a Lynden Dunn back there wouldn't hurt. Especially today with GC's tall forwards.

I need another beer!!! I'm still shaking after that game. It was kind of like when you avoid a mid road collision. You aren't happy you are still alive. You are more shaken over what might have been!

That being said, I'm glad we got the four points. The alternative would have been much, much worse.

1. We got the four points

2. We deserved the four points

3. That was an unspeakably horrible performance.

They won three quarters. We didn't deserve the four points. We got over the line because Gold Coast's midfield is decimated.

Dom was terrific. Stretch played one great half. Frost was good (minus a few poor errors). After a pathetic quarter and a bit Vandenberg proved his place today, so I'll eat some humble pie for that. Took a really important mark at CHF at the end too. And my man Jayden Hunt was great too. I still don't understand how someone like Harmes (who is an absolute butcher) gets guys coming up to console him after another heinous turn over, but Hunt continues to create scoring opportunities and no one gets to him.

There's a distinct lack of cohension in this team at times, which almost certainly stems from a lack of senior leadership, but is also evidenced by the lack of talk our players have when attacking the ball.

That's because Hogan can only reliably kick for goal 20 metres out in front of goal.

The one we dare not speak of? All the more reason we should be getting games into Hulett and Weideman. The club needs to be pragmatic here. Hogan's form has been average for a while now but we are all so desperate to believe, myself included, that we are ignoring what he is actually putting out on the field. If he stays, he needs to really commit. If he wants to move on, let's have a player or players who can slot into the role

Umpires will give 3 2 1 to Gold Coast players.

Suprised they didn't find a way to pay a mark to GC on the goal line from Lynch's kick after the siren.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
