Out OMac and Hunt

In Pedersen and Oliver

I agree with the idea of resting Hunt, but if it's going to be 'like for like' it would be Grimes coming in, and I doubt that will happen.

Pedo did no where near enough to earn a call up, Garland may be 'like for like' coming in for O'Mac, but like Grimes, I'd be surprised to see him again this year.

BenKen looked to me to be the one to come in, maybe in place of Harmes. ANB average but will get at least one more run.

Two on the outer so that leaves only Kennedy jr.

kennedy is not for me the reason too short. Not many options.

Garland has 2 more years on a deal and no one will want him. I expect if the FD have decided he's finally turned his form around in the VFL - and I expect he either has or is getting closer to that stage - then he'll come back in.

Grimes is near certain to move on at the end of the year, so there's less reason to play him.

Kennedy's height doesn't bother me, it rarely impacts his role as a high half forward. But bringing him in would achieve little given ANB played ok and had to do a good stint in the VFL. Now it's ANB's time to have 1 or 2 more chances and Kennedy's chance to play consistently well at VFL level.

I understand that. But if thats the case then they should play him in the same role at Casey. He can add speed and carry on the wings which aside from Stretch and M Jones we lack. He played there in spurts early on when his form was stronger and I would like to see us trial it again when he comes back in.

He can be decent in space with his speed but I think his limited tank and contested style lends him more to half forward/on the ball. So I'd probably only give him a little time on the wings.

Michie seems to be playing more half back at Casey to set him up to play the same role in the AFL.

But for Ben Kennedy I like the idea of getting him around the ball and getting 30+ chances to dispose of the ball because I think long term that's his biggest weakness. Fitness is an issue but he'll either fix that or not with a couple more preseasons.

Thoughts on replacing OMac with Pedo? Pedo has played in defence before and he would be a welcome big body in our defence. If not, what about playing chris dawes in defence? He always creates a contest and is a big body?

Pedo didn't do enough to warrant a call up - I don't think he's far away though...

Kennedy is 175CM. Libba 182, Hunter 183 and Daniel 168. So only Daniel is shorter than Kennedy.

There are plenty of others: Jake Neade is 170, McDonald-Tipungwuti is 171, Betts and McGlynn are 172, Ballantyne, Lewis Taylor and Puopolo are all 173.

The issue isn't height. It's consistency. Kennedy's shown he has what it takes to play AFL level football at his height (see the first 6 or so weeks of the year). I see him in a similar position currently to what Kent was about two months ago. He needs to get involved through four quarters, and avoid prolonged periods of going missing. Those aren't things that depend on height, they depend on effort and adjusting to AFL level.

OMac for Pedo only change for mine. If any other change forced, I would like to see Oliver get another run.

How can you suggest Oliver! he's getting eaten alive in the VFL!

If this were to happen, how do you see the team lining up? In particular, who moves to the backline to take on O McDonald's role?

Frost to Wright, T. McDonald to Lynch and Wagner to Day.

Wagner to Day is probably a bit iffy, Dunn or Garland is the logical replacement for O. McDonald but not sure who else should come out of the team?

Oliver certainly gave that Sandringham player a mouthful.

I was answering a question about Dogs shorter players tu.

All you say may hold some water but I don't agree.

With Him and Garlett in the same side IMO it makes our forward line too short.

Either one or the other and Garlett has way more runs on the board.

Harmes was very poor. Can't remember a touch in the first half that wasn't a fumble or a turnover

If one poor game is enough then he'd be the one, I'd be looking at others before Oliver to come in though.

So we have two tall backs to play on Lynch, Day and Wright?

I don't think so.

Edit - I saw your suggestion of Wagner on Day.  Wagner is not a tall back in my book.

No change.   I actually like the look of the team at the moment: speed and run with M Jones, Stretch, Kent, Hunt, Garlett and plenty of toughness on the inside

There is an arguement for Harmes coming out for Oliver/Kennedy but I prefer to not chop and change each week. if they perform similarily this week then make the change

If O Mac needs a rest, expect garland to come in.

Anyone who wants Brayshaw out needs their head read.

His skills are great, but under pressure in slippery conditions a 26 game player will make mistakes.

Like Clint, I don't know who goes out, but I want Oliver in my team (and never again out of it).

Would have thought someone who "understands the nuances" of the game better than everybody else would be up with the fact that Roos has said Oliver's fitness isn't yet up to scratch and he can't run out games, which is why he hasn't been selected as often as some would like.

Will be a gun, hope he plays this week, but he will be out of the team again this year based on that.

Nuances man, nuances...

According to the published stats, Brayshaw only played 58% game time. If that figure is correct, it's very low, unless he was injured. On the plus side, 20 possessions and 9 tackles is a great output for 58% of game time.

I suspect that he is being eased back in following his several concussions. Too good for VFL and gradually gaining AFL experience. If the remainder of the season were to be meaningful i.e. We're we potentially finals bound the I suspect things may have been managed differently.   (Don't tell Brock bloody McLean!)

Even if this is the case, we are a better team with him in it.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
