Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Changes vs. Gold Coast

Have to keep Brayshaw in, thought he did some great things yesterday and of course still had a couple shanks. A couple of his kicks dropped 1-2m short of there targets which is unusual but he will better for the run. He will be a wonderful player for us long terms so I'd rather get more games into him.

I don't want many/any changes other than getting Clarry in and keeping ANB in. I'd rather play our kids more especially when coming up against other young teams

We have lost games this year by playing an underweight/inexperienced forward line. If that's the masterplan so be it but it is clearly at the expense of winning games.

You must be annoyed as above, you must mean defensive line?

Continue to play the kids and get games into them.   I'd like to see Clarrie come in and I think the FD will persist with O Mac for his development.

i think a lot will depend on today's game in the vfl.

o mac had another barry crocker, and looked crocked into the bargain, while dawes just doesn't do anything like enough. could we see one veteran come in (dunn, garland) to replace an inexperienced back, and an inexperienced forward (weideman, hulett) come in for a veteran forward? i'm still of the opinion that we're a lot more threatening when we have three key forwards rotating around the forward half rather than simply hogan and watts, so i want to maintain that structure if possible.

brayshaw must stay in the side but i am surprised by how poor his skills are. he misses targets by hand and foot far, far too regularly for such a highly-rated kid. anb simply doesn't get involved enough at afl level, but he deserves more than one opportunity to go in then out.

i imagine kennedy will bang on the door with another dominant vfl performance as he's simply too good for that level.

Yes....he should have taken 20 marks considering the magnificent delivery into our F50.

Yeah let's stop developing a kid got players who are not going to improve us.

Development can take place in the VFL too, and with the added bonus of not destroying a young mans confidence. O Mac has seen enough of the AFL to know what he needs to work on for the next 8 months. I'd rather see Dunn or Garland or Pedo back in the team to harden us up.

Roos said Oliver struggles to run out games as a first year player, which will stand against him.

Spencer hurt his knee in the VFL, so will need to see how he pulls up.

Pedo a possibility, and I would love to see Hulett on a forward flank.

suspect OMac may be injured, given what we saw, so may be out.

otherwise, they played with great effort.  Probably only injury induced changes.

No way should Brayshaw go out - needs time to adjust to the next level. Is showing plenty. Hope they stay with the same side, barring injury.

According to the published stats, Brayshaw only played 58% game time. If that figure is correct, it's very low, unless he was injured. On the plus side, 20 possessions and 9 tackles is a great output for 58% of game time.

Thus far, only Ben K, Grimes and Michie warrant a call up, based on the Casey game.

Bugg?

Terlich best for Casey today, but I think we can forget about his inclusion. Grimes next best (see Terlich). Didn't think Oliver did enough to warrant his inclusion. He's almost too much of an inside player if that makes sense. I'd like to see him get a few possessions outside of the congestion.

My tip is no change despite Hunt looking tired.

Only Garland would warrant a call up after today's Casey game - but I say this without a lot of conviction.

I don't necessarily disagree with the first paragraphs, but the second one is both unfair and simply not true.

Oscar is so unfairly maligned on here that some people would only find his performance acceptable if the opposition kicked zero goals.

Every time the opposition kicks a goal, Demonland looks for someone to blame, as though keeping a clean sheet is even possible in this game.

Agree that he is unfairly maligned but I remain unconvinced anyway.

His positioning and bodywork don't appear to have improved as the year has gone on. He still looks timid when we transition to offence. He generally still looks lost out there.

I appreciate though that the FD would prefer to play him than Dunn or Garland but I do not see an obvious KPD in OMac at the moment.

It would be a big call to drop anyone and provided Jetta and O.Mac and teh rest of the gang pull up fine, I'd expect the NO CHANGE card to be used.

The best, IMO, from Casey were Michie, Kennedy and Garland and I'd expect they'd would be likely emergencies. Grimes and Terlich were good too, but they are now in a different category.

Call me wrong all you like, but we should've taken Parish

In the long term you are wrong however Parish is no slouch and would also look good in our side. Maybe they can throw him in as steak knives when we trade Terlich for Hurley and Hibberd?

It all depends on whether we want to tank,we can still drop the remaining 5 matches. OR  the alternative we give Dunn,Garland and GRIMES a chance so we might get something for them. OR have a roster system for those not getting games. It doesn't matter what changes we make.

I won't call you wrong.  I'll call you naive.

To make that call now, without either of them having completed a season of football in the AFL, is as short sighted as they come.  Grow up a bit and look past your nose.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
