We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

I loved watching Wellingham completely spud it up.

Yes, I did too, but probably not as much as WC supporters enjoyed watching some of the same from our blokes.  I think I recall watching T Mac and Wagner turn over a few crucial kicks trying to switch across or back half which resulted in easy goals for them.

I like the way both the aforementioned go about their footy, but if we are to be a good team and consistently beat top eight teams, then these kinds of sloppy skill errors are things that all our players need to get out of their games.

I think Bernie kits a few nails on the head with his comments re umpiring, fowardline wastefulness, disappointment and the attitude our players need to have in his comments on the club web site.

http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-07-23/bitterly-disappointing-loss-says-vince

I also think WC did yesterday what we should have done when we lost the ascendancy Vs St Kildia and thrown more players behind the play, played a tight back line and clog up scoring some more.  Hopefully all this and the issues Bernie raised in terms of lowering the eyes a bit more come with a bit more experience/maturity next year and we walk away winners in these games.

This is an interesting juncture we are at.
Effort is no longer the issue as far as I'm concerned. We get rolled by the inability to make the right decisions at the right times when the heat is on. If we ever make it to September, that is a bloody important skill to have.
The boys are disappointed at the loss. Now what are they going to do about it?

On a different note, for those who believed that sacking all our veterans at the same time was genius, I direct you towards the Saints.  I still believe that we may have a better crop of youngsters coming through but there is a reason they are a better team than us. Look at blokes like Rooey, Joey, Dempster and Gilbert. While their kids are pretty good, them having that veteran leadership that knows what to do and when is the reason they are a better team.

Unfortunately the veterans we "got rid" if were certainly not in the caliber of those four !!

Thank God someone understands.

You don't think everyone gets that, OD?

Just because some choose to look at a variety of aspects in a game doesn't mean we don't get that to win we need to play better overall.  We're still allowed to assess the positives from a game as well.

Never like losing, but prefer this kind of loss to a top eight team than the beltings we've received from top eight teams for the last decade.

The boys are creating experiences that confirm they belong and can match it with the best, but have more work to do.

Thats where we're at.

If we take the angst of these losses and the confidence from going toe to toe with the big boys into the remaining games, then we'll be a chance to win any of them.

Spot on bb I am dismayed at how so many MFC supporters continue to be happy losing narrowly.

I'm freaking p*ssed off that we lost.

But there is a difference between being happy at aspects of the performance and being happy we lost.

I am happy that we went to Perth, on a 6-day break, to a ground where the home team averages 10-goal wins, and dominated. I am happy that our best players included Tyson and Petracca. But I'm anything but happy we lost.

If you've lost the ability to see positives, fine. But don't take it out on the rest of us.

Learning to win at an elite level is one of the hardest things to do for anyone. Listen to almost any elite athlete in an elite sport and they will say things like 'it is much easier to win once you know how'.

I agree. I really felt on reflection, it was like there were 2 Melbournes out there yesterday, the Old Melbourne and the New Melbourne. One minute kaos, the next minute sublime. Its like a team fighting with itself to go forward but trying to overcome its old ways....

Perhaps the umpires could wear noise cancelling headphones when doing matches in WA and SA. Block out the crowd sounds. Not a fashionable look though. Could have one if those ridiculous cheek mikes attatched to them.

Just thinking outside the square...

Like someone pointed out earlier, last qtr free kicks 12-3 put us back in our box......

That was me. Slightly wrong as the comment about the 10-16 free kicks was near the end of the third quarter. It was 12 - 3 since that point.

The final quarter was actually 10-2.

What do people make of our last quarters?

Hawthorn, Adelaide, Port, St Kilda, West Coach - each time we've been in touching distance and either not converted or the other team has kicked away.

Fitness, lack of composure, both or something else?

I'd say 6 of our last 8 last quarters have been disappointing - with an asterisk on the Freo fourth term. Arguably they've cost us 4 shots at a win.

Overall we're 9-8 in last quarters with a percentage of 99.

My take is that we're improving as a whole but we're running out of gas with the young list which is damaging composure at key moments. We're in most games we play now - the next step is to consistently take our chances.

(Incidentally we've won more quarters than we've lost)

Lack of composure driven by our deficiency in age, experience and leadership.

We're the youngest side in the comp and we've won 7/17 and could have had at least 4 more to be 11/17 with a bit of poise.

We're on track. It's a long road but if we are still here in 2018 when our age and experience is on the cusp of league average then I'll be extremely worried.

That is all that counts in the end. Who is in front at the end determines the winner the rest are excuses by the loser.

it is time for all Dees supporters to get over excuses. Being in front at the end is all that matters.

this morning the WCE have five wins in a row and a chance at the top four and the Dees are in the bottom third winging about how unlucky we are. That is the real world.

I can see I am facing a losing battle.

You obviously don't want to defend or explain why you said we didn't "DESERVE" to win. Stop saying we lost. We all know that.

Just explain why you say we didn't we deserve to win, given that the whole footy world,  including the WCE coach, said we should have won and "DESERVED" to win.

Lack of composure from a young team who don't yet know how to win.

And possibly the NT factor.

Time to get rid of one of the remnants of the nightmare Neeld era - DAWES fair dinkum this bloke is not worth $500 a year let alone $500k a year. How in the hell could he miss everything in the last quarter and kick out on the full, he is useless and needs to go, a waste of a first round draft pick being given away for him and $2million spent on him in the last two years. Enjoy your time trying to pick up money playing at local footy next year, your are past AFL footy, you were 4 years ago when Neeld made one of his many poor judgements.

Scoreboard doesn't lie

We Lost & to Win we have to play better...

Far too simplistic with no analysis.

For example the umpires give 10 incorrect frees, resulting in 10 goals and the other side loses by one point.

Another example, four players are injured in the first quarter playing no further part in the game and the other side wins by a point.

Why do both of those teams that lost, not "DESERVE" to win?

Don't worry Deanox, I'm extremely hopeful we can stuff it up prior to 2018. It's just a matter of how. From memory, I don't think we've had a sex tape scandal. We've done betting and tanking.

and yet the only thing a team can truly affect is its own performance. Its not going to change how umpires umpire, its not going to change the other side as such as it will do what its drilled to do.  So the ONLY thing a losing team can really do to win, is play better.  It is actually far simpler than you might suggest Red

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
