Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fondest Melbourne Demons memory

Recommended Posts

It is easy to get caught up in the post match hate and frustration, trust me, no one feels it more than us, another year of "Perhaps next year" and it really hurts me to have a decade without any success what so ever.

BUT

There is a reason why we all persist with this club and I want to know some of your most cherished memories with the Demons.

I will start by saying as a 12 year old and sitting in the cheer squad for the first time leaving that day happy and without a voice anymore...and to make it better it was against Geelong.

Another 2 were having Jeff Farmers 1998 Mark of the year Herald sun spread on my wall in my bed room and watching us thump North Melbourne in the 2000 Prelim whilst in Bali with my Dad.

But then who cold forget that 3 point win in Adelaide all those years ago in the dying seconds?!?
Or the wonder as a small forward pocket for my local footy team going to watch my hero Rusell Robertson week in week out doing what he did best.

It is easy to forget the past and why we are all so passionate about this club, but looking back, the Demons are the reason why I share so many amazing memries with my family and closest friends.

Let me hear some of yours.

Whelan flattening Hird and Travis Johnstone running onto the ball and banging it through on the boundary line from outside 50m in a final. The single greatest passage of play I have seen as a Melbourne supporter.

1998 season and especially the finals, if only we didn't cop nth melb in prelim, how Adelaide won the flag after we pumped them in 1st final still has me stuffed, I remember last round of season we smashed tigers farmer took a massive mark over Lyon, bit of luck and we could have won flag as we were flying, same with 1994 injuries stopped a flag

1. Being in Brisbane to see us beat Brisbane in 2002 when Lions were in their prime. Brisbane kick the first 7 goals to 1, Brisbane lady sitting next to us "you didnt come all the way from Melbourne to see this?" we come back and win by 21 points on the back of 7 goals to Neita..

2. 2006 Elimination final vs St.Kilda

3. 2005 Vs Bulldogs round 21 ? 20 points down with 5 minutes to go. Jeff White kicks the winner with seconds to go. Neahle Daniher storming down through the crowd fist pumping (almost tear up thinking about it).

4. 2000 qualifying final vs Carlton

5. Round 17 2010 vs Sydney

Thinking of these times just wants us to have success so much more

Sitting in the members at the G and witnessing the comeback to win against Carlton in the Qualifying final in 2000  when Cam Bruce banged home the final nail from the top of the goal square in the dying minutes. looking at the faces of the Carlton supporters on the siren was absolute gold.

Witnessing the best game of football I've ever seen , the 1996 merger game though we lost by a point. I stiil loved that game.

Standing in the outer at the Whitten Oval round 22, 1987 waiting with thousands post the final siren listening to the transistor to the Geelong v Hawthorn game.

Only a flag will surpass it..

Robert Flower in a game against Richmond at the MCG where we put all players other than Flower on one side of the ground for kick ins from Richmond behinds. Flower beat his opponent comprehensively. Someone else will confirm his identity (Francis Bourke, perhaps?) but it was the Richmond coach's last game as coach.

Greg Parke taking something like 16 marks against St Kilda in a game at Moorabbin in the days when most marks were contested. That would have been in the 1970s and time has made me believe that he took 16 contested marks that day. (My memory has also probably conveniently forgotten what he did with those kicks. I expect he may have converted them into something like 2 goals, 4 behinds, 3 out on the full and 7 turnovers).

I think it's reasonable to call Robert Flower's State games as Demon Highlights. If nothing else, it showed everyone how sublime he really was. When he played State football he regularly dominated because he ran to the right spots and had the ball delivered to him on a platter. In most of his Melbourne games, he ran to the right spots only to see the ball miss him by metres.

Best: making 2 grand finals Worst: losing 2 grand finals

having watched many of Robert Flowers games

a goal by Woewoden where he ran the length of the ground, bouncing and weaving to goal

Sean Smiths mark and a very similar one by Gary Hardeman

Hassa Mann kicking 7 goals from the centre line.

Happy days!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
