Kennedy must go. Only disposals he got were in junk time

I would give him some more time in the midfield and see how he goes in there..  West Coast's midfield are not flying, just not too sure who else we can bring in if we drop Kennedy, not too sure Oliver is grabbing his chance as has not engine..

Amazing how earlier in the year, we were boasting about genuine depth, now without many injuries to note- we are scrapping together replacements.

List is still overrated!

I think we were boasting about having SOME genuine depth, as in for the first time in a long time we actually had some. That was certainly my reading of it, I can't remember anyone saying we had enough depth yet.

Trouble being his Darwin game was woeful as well

Eagles are beatable. If it were at the MCG and if we put in a half-decent effort against the 'Aints I'd be somewhat confident. But nothing about this club tells me we'll pull off the win. We allow teams to far too easily transition out of our forward line, and their mids and forwards will have a day out against our diamond defense. I predict a 30-40 point loss.

At this stage of the season I'd like to see ANB, Stretch get more play time. Grimes and Kennedy are liabilities and should not play against the Eagles. If Hogan gets suspended (doubtful), then I suspect Dawes will come in. Frost for White.

Yesterday we had a terrible team game. Stretch and ANB to me seem to walk the team line better, whereas Grimes goes back to bad habits he developed from the Neeld era, just going through the motions. Trengove I fear is the same and he may struggle to get back into the side.

Just notice Bugg and Stretch were the match day emergencies with Billy having the weekend off. No sign of Chris Dawes at Casey is he injured or what? Certainly could not expect him to be considered for selection. Eagles play tall with 2 rucks so I would like to see Spencer play and he and Max to spend time up forward. Promote ANB because need to see if he has what it takes in the last 6 weeks and Frost hopefully over his illness. Out, whoever you like.

I hate it when Viney says that St Kilda wanted it more than us. Viney clearly cares and I can never question his commitment, but I find it disgusting other team members as paid professionals lack desire and work rate. Some of those players have no right to ever be accused of not wanting it badly enough given what has been dished up over the last 5 years.. We the supporters certainly want success badly

We have to bring in one of Garland or Dunn. They might not be fashionable and Roos might hate them because he didn't draft them, but West Coast is an experienced team with a killer forward line. Somehow I don't trust White, Wagner and Frost to hold the defence down. Especially with the two McDonald brothers being in ordinary form/being way under developed

Agree - cannot work out what Dunn has done so wrong. Roos made him Vice Captain and now refuses to play him - maybe he has had a crack at Tammie. Starting to remind me of when Daniher wouldn't play Lamb.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the backing up after the Darwin game, and what that game takes out of the team. That we lost doesn't surprise me, but I think a few changes might have freshened the team up.

i think the team will give a good account of itself in the west, whatever the changes.

I always wondered about Lamb. A bit slow but strong and tough and made  for the gorilla match ups.  One of the few defenders I saw who got under Wayne Carey's skin.

I'd really like to see us picking sides on the basis of the opposition and the venue, rather than just playing the same old favourites each week.

Kennedy, White and Vandenberg are all as slow as treacle, and none should travel to Perth, or play seniors again for some time. Pedersen should come in regardless of form, as our forward line has been far worse since he disappeared. Frost is the next best defender, although I doubt he is strong enough for either Kennedy or Darling. We need another midfielder, preferably one with speed, so Stretch is in.

Spencer and Oliver unlucky, but neither is suited to the venue. Both are better options against Gold Coast. Grimes, M.Jones, Wagner and Garlett are extremely lucky to stay in. Not convinced about O.McDonald yet, but every game he plays brings him closer to where he needs to be, whereas Dunn and Garland seem unlikely to improve from their recent poor showings.

Eggzactly, how about, you dont get paid unless you win contracts!

Its time to blood the kids from this game forward.....see if we can unearth anything for the rest of the year..

I believe that we should drop VdB for Oliver, White for Frost if he is fully recovered and N Jones for ANB. I am sure that the last one will get a few remarks but the Capt has been well below his usual standards for the last few weeks and I would like to see him given a rest for a week or two. Have him travel to Perth and sit him in the coaches box so he can see the game from a different perspective. ANB deserves a run. I cannot see the coaches dropping N. Jones so in that case I would drop Kennedy for ANB.

Vdb has been off the pace since his return and his tackling has been a source of frees against him. Always seems to tackle too high. He is not a shade of the player he was when he first come into the team. Oliver needs to get a few games run in the firsts.

Frost back for White with Wagner remaining in the team.

Brayshaw gets another run to settle into the pace of the game and I have no problem giving Grimes another run, he was played all over the ground last week and should be given a role to play.

Definite ins from me: Frost, Oliver & ANB - possible in Stretch after a week off to rest.

Yes, Gawn, Watts and Jetta too were slow starters that took a while to get going. Viney perhaps is our only player that's started well and continued on a upward trajectory with few hiccups. I am starting to worry about Oliver. After a sensational first game he has been out of the picture recently. I pray we haven't got a Gysberts Mark 2 here.

Wow, I didn't think Demonland could get so pessimistic as to start writing off Oliver, but I was wrong.

Today on Demonland we have seen Angus and Oliver both written off.  10 years of losing to St Kilda has driven us crazy.

No point bringing in Spencer when their only ruckman is Lycett

There's a few points:

1. Let's absolutely maximise a positive in the ruck by having 2 rucks v Lycett and Mitch Brown.

2. We need another forward marking target on the long Subi ground. If Hogan and Watts both get up the field there won't be anyone to kick to

3. West Coast's zone defending is their strength and Hogan and Watts up the ground in play can find gaps in that zone. Spencer/Gawn can do the grunt work setting up for the kick down the line.

4. May as well have a look at Spencer now given he's still contracted for next year and Gawn could do with a light week especially given the travel.

Points 1 + 2 were how we beat Geelong in Geelong last year.

As I see it we had six players on the field last sunday that right now would not get a game with another AFL team well perhaps Brisbane.

White, Vandenberg, O Mac, M Jones, Kennedy and Garlett.

Kennedy and Garlett are small and IMO you cannot have both in the team.

Add Tyson who is an average player when best and there are plenty that could be dropped.

The trick is who replaces them. Sadly there are not seven better players at Casey hence our problem.

OMac, M Jones and Kennedy must be replaced this week.

Had a look on Footywire. Last win vs Eagles in Perth was in 2002...  bloody hell.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
