Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination

Who are the judges for the rising star?

And do the same people also vote on the weekly nominations?

The 'expert' judges change most years. Usually media commentators, a couple of AFL officials and an ex-legend or two.

Weekly noms are done by the AFL.

It's a farce if you ask me.

Interesting to note that back in March / April Demonland conducted a ballot under the thread title "Who's our best chance to win the Rising Star in 2016".

The contenders were listed as  Petracca, Harmes, Oliver, O.Mac, Weideman and 'other',  with no specific reference to Hunty.  The outcome of the ballot was Oliver by a whisker from Petracca and then daylight the rest.  I voted Oliver but did make the following observation about Hunty:  http://demonland.com/forums/topic/39932-whos-our-best-chance-to-win-the-rising-star-in-2016/?do=findComment&comment=1246205.

Just wanted to make the point that Hunty has 'come from the clouds' in half a season to enter our calculations as a Rising Star contender.  Great effort by the young man and by our Footy Club in seeing the signs and persevering.

No, you are wrong. Rivers stats in his Rising star year are better than Talias, but don't let facts stop you. In 2004 Rivers was 11th overall for disposal averages among Rising star nominees, Talia was 79th.  Edit:- NOTE:- 11th & 79th among eligible players for rising star - thanks billy2803

Edit:- I had wrong stats listed-now fixed.

So Rivers had 4 more touches and 2.5 more marks. Hardly a huge difference. And back in 2004 after the week 2003 draft there weren't a lot of high disposal winners. Rivers would've been 45th for disposals in 2012 and right up there with Talia to win the award. I still have no interest in disposal stats for lock down key defenders.

Toby Greene found and butchered a truck load of the ball in his first year. The rest of the GWS midfielders were very exciting but hardly dominant. Same with Wallis.

Jeremy Cameron was unlucky not to win the award after kicking 29 goals as rightfully finished 2nd. He and Talia were widely accepted as the clear top 2.

Is Hogan the shortest kick for his size in the competition? (Set shot wise)

Probably in the last decade. I simply can't understand it. He is a powerful athlete, spends hours in the gym every week presumably some spent on developing the muscles required to kick. His accuracy in field kicking and set shots is well above average so he must be timing it ok. There is something wrong and I don't buy it is the run-up. It just makes no sense.

4 more disposals per game in this case is actually 46% more possessions per game. Rivers also had about double the marks in an era with less possessions, particularly chipping around the backline. So yes that is a huge difference. So 11th v 79th is a huge difference, but you don't like stats or does that only apply when it does not support your argument?.

There's no conspiracy to be found. Some players are just longer kicks than others!

Watched Open Mike with the Rocca boys. Bloody hell, couldn't they roost it. Imagine if Hogan had a 60m bomb in his bag. Unfortunately he doesn't, but obviously brings plenty of other attributes.

I just find those stats irrelevant. Rivers was an intercept marking CHB. He use to zone off and mark. Ahead of his time really. Weitering's going to go close to winning the award this year playing somewhat similarly.

Talia was a lock down defender who didn't get involved in attacking play, but he was so good at shutting down opponents. If you have stats on his goals conceded, spoils and 1 on 1 wins I'd like them. Weitering played full back on Membrey the other week and had 5 kicked on him.

Looks like the run up and his kicking action. He doesn't get a lot of momentum on his run up and he then spears the ball low. Jack Riewoldt is the same, and always passes from just outside 50. Compared to Buddy and especially Tex Walker who take their game to the next level by their ability to kick goals from outside 50.

I'd love to have Hogan work with a footy biomechanist on his running and kicking.

I'm going to cop some flak for this. But do you think if Hunt had come on like this a year earlier, that we wouldnt have traded for Melksham? I think Hunt is ahead if him off half back as of right now.

Hunt has been a true find for us and one of the real success stories of 2016.

He should get a nomination before too long.

Definitely a question worth asking.

Mind u Melksham dosent necessarily need to play off half back, he was picked up because we need good ball  users,  and they can be used anywhere

You won't cop flak but it is an impossible question to answer. I will have a go and say we were always going to trade for Melksham because Goodwin has a relationship and you can't have enough tough distributors with good foot skills off the back line. You never have your best 22 on the park so you always need multiple options.

A terrific interview with a humble young man.  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-07-15/the-journey-of-jayden-hunt

Shows his youthful innocence when he says he was rapt with Roos comment re 'the best 14 possession game' he had seen but 'didn't really believe him'

Doesn't like the media limelight...

As a young guy he still has development and growth but gee whiz he is good.  Look forward to see him dashing around the G for many years to come.

I don't blame him for not believing Roos. When I heard the comment from him it brought back memories of Jeremy Howes great zero possession half.

Hopefully he gets one back on Stkilda this week, Acres stitched him up last time we met.

Has to get it this week, deserves it more than Markov & Dunkley. Melbourne have never had 4 rising star nominations in a season, hopefully Hunt makes it 4. The Weed and OMac also a chance to get a nomination if they play well in the last couple of weeks

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
