Then we were watching a different game because I watched him get caught out at least four times because of little awareness of that around him. And that was after he dropped a pud' at the start of the game. Don't get me wrong, I like Matt Jones and wish him the best but I disagree here.

Yeah I agree. I thought he looked good (underdone though). Probably another month away (at least) from AFL level football IMO. Nyuon also looked promising. Very high ceiling as a ruckman, I could not have been more impressed by his tap work (has very deft touch, and is a smart young ruck).

Same. Brayshaw is a gun. At the end of last year he looked by far and away the best talent of the 2014 draft. But he has had a slow start this year - not helped by an injury interrupted pre-season, and now a series of concussions. I have no doubt he will be an A grader. Those 4 will make a very ruthless midfield. Very competitive - and physical - young guys.

The only player you could say is somewhat on the fringe but needs a few more weeks to settle (given he's only just returned) is Vanders IMO. Real goer in the clinches but hasn't really had a sustained period on the park so far to see where he's at (due to his interrupted/injury issues). I still think he has more upside vs say Matty at this point in the medium term. He is also a 'Roos' favorite so should get plenty of opportunity to show his wares if he can stay fit. We also have Brayshaw vying for a similar role to Vanders so the competition is heating up.

Harmes/Newton will hopefully get another shot at it later in the season if the window arises to see where they are at after what will probably be a solid stint at KC. Have shown promising glimpses so far at AFL level and my comparative ratings have them ranked 17th/18th ahead of Vanders at 26th this year. Matty also deserves another gig at some point ranking 9th from his 4 AFL appearances, although i've witnessed most of those (both live & televised including a few VFL appearances) and still not convinced he is having the impact with many of his possessions that some have with say half as many.

The jury is out on some of boys and the coming matches will be a great test for the entire club and will really show where we are at and who is up to the pressure cooker of playing some of the top clubs in this 2nd half of the season.

You hit the nail on the head in your first para. Whilst we need to return Brayshaw and Garlett to the ones, Spencer is only a Gawn emergency as far as the ones are concerned.

Angus you beauty.  Cant wait til hes back in the Dees team.   Am very excited to see Hulett debut too.

And the Spencil seems to have improved. Thank god we have a seasoned competitive ruck in case Gawn needs a  rest. Can see them playing in the same team soon depending on matchups.

At half time I was wondering what all the pre-draft hype was all about. His disposal was terrible. After half time, wow, he was moved to the forward line and he was amazing. Looks like he could develop into another Stringer.

The AFL should get off their arses and somehow run a deal with the VFL and ensure that this absolutely pathetic counterproductive succession of byes does not happen again starting 2017.  They need to either add a club or remove a club, perhaps through mergers. Amateurish management of what should be, or at least claims to be the support competition for Victorian clubs .

If he's playing at Casey and playing well than he's right to come back, if he's not over his concussions than he shouldn't be playing anywhere. I agree there's no need to rush him back in but if he earns his spot (and someone under performs in the seniors) then there's no reason to keep playing him at Casey. Do Casey have a game over our bye week? I know in previous years it has annoyingly been the same, but if not I'd say Gus plays at Casey next week and if he continues his good for he can look at a possible return after the bye.
