"... But come the quarter-time huddle and it was Vince that played No. 1 motivator, confidently raising his voice and addressing his teammates". Kent: “Bernie spoke to us at that break. We needed to play our style of footy and Bernie drove that at quarter-time,”

Three cheers for Bernie!

Anyone got footage of Kennedy being coathangered by #40 (which was called "play on" by umpire Nicholls)? I spent the whole first quarter watching through red mist after that. I want to see if it was as bad as it looked.

Should've been a freekick but was nothing more sinister than that.

It's a great feeling to smash teh Pies, but they let us get away with some things that will kill us against the Swans.  We need to be cleaner collecting the loose ball, hit targets better and stop bombing to the top of the square (yes, I KNOW the coaches are telling them to.  The Coaches are WRONG).

Other than that, jeez that was a good win.  Great effort guys.

Might be a good ploy at the SCG next weekend Ralphy.

Was bloody awesome mate. Waved my flag and sung the song three times, and stayed until the boys went in. Probably won't do any of those things ever again, but felt the need for finally breaking the duck!

Love it! Hopefully still on cloud 9 and have some great memories, especially a win over the filth!

Don't know what games you guys are at. The members go nuts. I've heard opposition fans say "there's not many of them but they're loud".

Yes i sit in Members and they around me are very vocal and easily lead in chants for Max or Bernie

Was he the one one who awarded free kick for an "aggressive tackle"  WTF???

Who was it that had their arms chopped by a Pie player running at full tilt the other way. Stopped a huge fwd thrust at an important time and most likely a goal. Think it was in the 1st qtr....

And why was Hogan's head bandagaed?

Quick shout out to Dawes as I thought he would struggle to find a place in our best 22.

He was very good yesterday. Stats won't show the amount of running and body work he provided in contests.

Id say it was one of his top 3 games for the club.

jnr I have been thinking for a number of weeks now chopping the arms frees have really dropped off this year. The umps used to be very hot on it but it appears to me that it has not been penalised this year in the same way it has been. I am expecting a "rule of the week" type scenario at some stage this year where it come back onto the radar big time.

Ran through a bloke coming the other way in the 3rd or last quarter when the ball came inside 50. I think he copped a whack on the chin.

Very, very happy. I was invited to a corporate box today. I arrived to find myself the only Dee supporter amongst 15 smug Magpie medicos - almost the worst type of supporter. Well it was my lucky day - I managed to guess the first goal kicker and was the only one to pick that Melbourne would be in front at half, 3/4 and full time. Only missed out on the 1/4 time lead.

Go Dees!!!!

Did the Magpie medicos go to the Collingwood rooms after the game to help treat the frostbite and "bloodshed"? ?

We did pretty good for a team with five players with less than ten games.

No no no, you have it wrong. COLLINGWOOD were the inexperienced ones, Eddie said so this morning on the radio. He's my hero and he's always 100% correct in all things.

One sec, let me get some stats to prove it.

Total Players By Games
  Melbourne Games Collingwood
11 Less than 50 8
7 50 to 99 7
2 100 to 149 4
2 150 or more 3

Oh, uh, well this awkward. Must be an issue with Footywire. I'll take Eddie's word over cold hard facts any day.

No not 65k last time, it was 47,558 in the round 4 Collingwood home game. 65k+ today would have been good, but it was largely the Collingwood supporters who didn't turn up today - I think a number of them had already put their cue in the rack for this season.

Gone to the snow?

Thought the same thing.  He was often mauled on the lead and got zilch.  Again, even if decisions are bad ones, all we ask for is consistency.  Some of these umps obviously think their entitled to centre stage more than the blokes who actually play the game.

Frost, O, Mac, Wagner & Hunt all look so raw at times yet all had good games, probably Frost's best for the club so far. All will continue to improve. Huge upside.

Funnily enough, Frost's two best games have come against the Pies (and his brother no less). One as a forward and one as a defender.

No doubting he is a defender though. His speed is crucial to our zone and I was pleasantly surprised by his contested marking yesterday as well.

They were very consistent in that regard: I saw at one stage Dawes get man handled to the point of falling over (when the player eventually let go) while trying to lead - play on!

I try not to dwell on that kind of thing too often though. At the end of the day it's not possible for the umps to see everything, especially things that happen outside the play. How often do you find yourself going "wtf was that free for?!" in total outrage then look at the replay and go "oh."

Agree Nasher, but it seems to me that the old 'law" of protecting the bloke going for the ball has gone.  I think it was NJ in the last quarter, in our forward line, took possession, was immediately set upon by about 3 opposition players - I believe he was hit high by the way, but the ump gave holding the ball.  Jonesy is good, but he's not Houdini.

I think its fair to say that Petracca's blind turn will put to rest any query on his knee being fully recovered.....

Thought the same thing myself. If your knee is suspect it would not be able to do what Petracca did. Gee, he's a superb mover, so clean in his skills.Let's hope we have Angus back soon. What a pair.

Meant to mention this earlier.

How good was it to go a match by old protagonists at the G on QB Monday and have both teams in their correct jumpers?

On top of that ( where I was anyway )there were no fights, no Swearing in front of kids.

You sit with the opposition  supporters with   good nature banter and just to top it off not a face mask or flare in sight.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
