Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can never have enough mids, and it amazes me when people say that Prestia is surplus to requirements. Ridiculous.

If Hurley were to come to us, would it be as a delisted free agent and we would have to pay nothing to the bumbers? Has this been clarified anywhere?

its a fairly big factor in the equation.

Under the AFL’s grievance policy, it is understood he could invoke a previously unused clause in his player contract that would allow him to leave the Bombers and join the club of his choice next year.

Under the policy, any player who has a grievance with his club has the right to have that grievance aired through the AFL grievance tribunal as part of the AFL collective bargaining agreement.

Hurley could argue there has been a breach of his contract, particularly as Essendon has pleaded guilty to two charges laid by WorkSafe Victoria for breaching the Occupational Health and Safety Act over the club’s handling of its 2012 supplements program.

Up to six clubs have spoken to Hurley’s manager Paul Connors about invoking a previously unused clause in the player contract which would allow the banned Hurley to leave Essendon and join the club of his choice.

All 12 suspended Essendon players – who could become delisted free agents if they choose – could use the same trigger to leave Essendon.

Hibberd makes sense to me. Just hope it doesn't mean Jetta is going anywhere.

Melksham then could tag/wing or half back, handy depth otherwise. Vince can play more midfield. Salem can play forward/mid where he'll be most damaging.

I'd love a 2nd ruck but maybe draft/develop is the best option.

3rd tall defender is a needs position. Oscar/Tom/Frost tall defensive combination has merit but they don't kick it well. I'd rather those 3 fight for 2 spots. Then to have a Josh Gibson or Easton Wood style player next to them.

Imagine those 3 fighting for 2 spots. A gun 3rd tall with Lumumba for depth. Jetta in a back pocket. Vince floating from a flank. Plus Hunt, Wagner, Melksham, Hibberd fighting for 2 spots, that's proper competition for spots in a backline with a good mix of pace, skill and defensive ability.

If there's not a 3rd tall available then I'd hit up the draft for one as a priority.

They need blokes who can kick coming out of the backline and he fits the mound perfectly.

Lewis Taylor?

Won the Rising Star two years ago.  Was mentioned on this board as mfc preferred choice at pick 9 if Salem wasn't available.

Seems he may be on the move http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-season-2016-brisbane-lions-at-a-contract-stalemate-with-lewis-taylor-20160614-gpiv78.htmlHis asking price of $500K is OTT but it maybe a ploy to get out of there.  Maybe he would come for a lot less to join a young, going places Dees.

Our recruiters have done a good job of tracking players missed in their draft  (Bugg, Kennedy etc) and getting them to the Dees. So Taylor would still be on our radar.

Taylor hasn't had a great year but hard to star in the lions team atm.  He is described as a 'speedy midfielder' and we do need midfield speed.

If we don't go for/get Prestia, Taylor would be an excellent alternative - similar size & skills but a cheaper trade price and cheaper contract price.

Has talent but not sure he quite fits the "compeditor" style that they are all about. I rate him but not at the same level of a Prestia. If we could get him on the cheap then worth a shot, but i would expect Brissy to ask more than what we can, well should, offer in return. They will be desperate to keep him or trade up.

In simple terms..push come to shove  a player can tell Essendon where to jump. End of story  Essendon , as they have throughout this who sad affair have always attempted to muddy waters and run with false truths.  They still are.  Quite frankly some of these young men must have rocks for brains...or none  Some no doubt have been'smooth talked' by the club into continuing.. Major releief for Windy Hill...No huge law suits to contend.

Of course the League is in cahoots here also. They will not be advertising the reality of what players can do. The AFLPA  ( aka waste of space )  will do their backers bidding here also.

A player, if he wishes to leave, invokes breach of contract , spcifically the relevance to players health . Once triggered the AFL is bound to follow its own rules.  Here it has a choice though. It can lay its cards down and concede, or make it a long winded process to the same outcome.

The EFC and the AFL  are playing poker again....they are holding NO CARDS but bluffing big time.

The sole determining factor in reality is the player. If someone wants to call their bluff , which they shouldnt have to , they play the "Grievance" Joker.

Its still all about mind games.

Has there ever been a bunch so morally vacuous  and corrupt as this lot from Windy Hill.!!!!

Cant understand for the life of me why it hasn't happened yet. There must be some serious intimidation going on behind closed afl doors.

Dees, tell them all to go to hell. If we are seriously trying to land Hurley and Hibberd, they would surely understand that they have a better chance of playing in a successful side, if that side does not need to entertain that idiot Dodoro.

Finally a chance to show some balls. Lets do it.

Interesting. I wonder if the players would be happy to use that clause if it would mean Essendon end up with nothing?

How sweet it would be if Hurley and Hibberd came over and the Bombers get nothing... haha

I imagine the AFL would grant the Dons free agency compensation, no? With the likely contract value, and Hurley being a 26y/o AA KPD, that compensation would be pick 2.

It is for a bloke with Taylor's output for the past 2 years.

The potential to hit that mark was there last year and people do pay for potential - look at the WBD and the ball and chain that is Tom Boyd. But I like to think we won't make a call like that because we don't have the luxury yet.

Buddy Franklin may walk away from Sydney citing anxiety and media overexposure . They lacked a duty of care by offering him too much too soon.

A quiet and peaceful existence may be possible in our forward line. If too much money is a problem, a humble salary is more than ok. I'm sure Hogan would be OK sharing the space.

Expect a number of players to be squeezed out of Port Adelaide at the end of season due to salary cap concerns. I don't know if there would be any interest, but Jackson Trengove is one name mentioned at the start of the season by some family members who are very heavily involved at 2 Vic based clubs.

For those mentioning interest in pursuing James Gaff, forget it he's no chance at returning back to Melb. Very happily enjoying life in WA, recently bought a house and settled in WA.

His versatility is pretty important to them and he's still likely their starting choice CHB.

I'd expect Port to dump ageing guys in Schulz, Carlisle and maybe Monfries, Matty White, Butcher before losing Trengove. I also think he's a pretty similar player to Tom McDonald so unless Tom goes I wouldn't be interested.

Edit: Matt White just signed on so it won't be him.

Tom Clurey is one who fits more of a 3rd tall role at 193cm and hasn't had a lot of opportunities with Port. Highly rated as a junior IIRC he has great endurance and can do a job.

Just read a little fluff piece about Trenners keeping track of Lahlan Neale.

Haven't watched a Freo game this year tbh but I have heard Neale is in some cracking form.

Hopefully we are having a look

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
