Nifty Nev Jetta

He's obviously a free agent this year, there's guys on our list that have made more coin over journey and nev fought back from the rookie list hope the club pays him what his worth and this contract sets his family's security up, I would offer him 1.2 million over 3 seasons he really is a great player and deserves it.

Nev is a ripper, and in 2016 he's been the 'glue' in our defense.  Reliable, hard-working, courageous and building his game year on year.  A fantastic story of persistence and hard work and a typical Paul Roos prodige'.   As a free agent, other clubs will have him on their radar, which bodes well for Nev's finances.  I dunno what all that equates to in dollars, but imo he has easily established himself in the top quartile of players at the Club, and should be paid accordingly.  I reckon 3 years is the right term.

Nev is well worth every cent he will get in his new contract. The club will ensure he receives a fair deal. The role he plays for us is incredibly important and difficult when you consider the quality of smaller opponents he has to pick up week in week out.

Some of our other players, especially some of our reg forwards, would do well to follow his lead on 1%s and pressure acts.

Probably our best on this side and this is one of our big weaknesses overall. If we could up the ante here, especially in the forward 50, I reckon we are a top 6 proposition ....even with the current list (and some key outs back in like Viney and others firing up like H, Jeffy & Dunn all pushing for a spot again).

I remember the story of when our recruiting team went over to WA (Busselton?) to interview him. We found his Aunt who thought we actually there to talk to his cousin Lewis, as he was the one the family thought was the better player. Certainly early in their careers that was the case, and arguably even over their respective journeys, but at the present moment there is no question that we have the better player.

His will be a very important signature.  I hope he is offered what is reasonable and fair, and that he repays the club's loyalty to him.

I used to think Connolly was ok, but this year especially he has lost the plot. Not sure if he's trying to get a gig with the Sun, or if it's just hearing him on SEN, but he geniunely seems clueless. Now, this isn't because of the Gawn AA team thing, it's a general comment. The list of footy journos worth reading is just shrinking every year.

Nev has been a revelation over the past two seasons. Needs to be treated fairly and equitably in regard to his contract. As with any footy club or business each player needs to be paid appropriately in regard to the contribution that he makes to the team and his importance now and in the future to team success. A balanced view has to be taken understanding that all the key players need to feel that they are being treated fairly and equitably. Other clubs may throw more money at a player so satisfying all players on money is not always possible that's why mate ship and tangible team success and finals footy becomes persuasive.

Freo is on the prowl to rebuild their team and will chase anyone from WA.  I don't know where Nev's wife's family are but if they are in WA then Freo can entice him back with more than just money.  He seems ideal to anchor their small defender troupe for a quite a few years.

To a lesser extent Kent may also be in their sights and also OOC this year.

Will rest easier when Nev signs.

He did at least acknowledge Max as a contender, but I struggle with his justification for NicNat:

"Which leaves the ruck, Melbourne's Max Gawn is another who is very stiff to miss. His numbers stack up very well, Goldstein perhaps just a tiny bit more effective with his disposal and near goal.

But mobility in a team picked as if to play is essential, which means missing the No.1 berth, Gawn also misses out as No.2, where Nic Naitanui offers more flexibility and has certainly turned in a good enough season to earn his spot in my 22."

The supposedly more flexible NicNat has kicked a total of 5 goals to Gawn's 9, and whilst averaging the same amount of disposals, averages less marks and less goal assists. Gawn is also 10% more effective in his ball use. Both are mobile big men which is what helps push them into the elite category. On pure tap work Gawn has a healthy lead over NicNat.

Connolly would've been better off just admitting he's picked NicNat based on reputation and credits in the bank.

I remember the story too Thrice.  Nev has become solid gold, Lewis was never better than silver plated, and is currently quite tarnished.

Everything said about this bloke here is spot on. Hard contest ball getter. Demeanour to match. Deserves all possible consideration and compensation.

Came through the hard times and the body language of other sides players constantly say where they hold Jetta in respect of.

That seems ridiculous, as the player's had a chance to go elsewhere, clubs have had a chance to pick him up, but no, they wait till they can get him for free. Couldn't possibly be called restraint of trade, or whatever the whole point of it was.

Hahahahahaha

Logical, valid points have no place in the AFL's world of free agency.

Mr Connolly also didn't get his facts right on NN. He had Nick as averaging 31 possessions per game this season. Ha ha, it is actually 13.1 Bit of a difference. By strange coincidence, big Maxy also has 13.1 average possessions this season.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
