GAMEDAY - Round 10

Recommended Posts

Was always going to be hard to win this game. Tyson missed the plane up there, must have been in the car with Kennedy as he didn't make it either. Kent wore the wrong colours because every possession were to his teammates in the power. Plus our whole defence seems to think you play in our own 50, not the other teams.

Worst we've played all year - including the Essendon game. I hope the club ceases this sponsorship deal with NT tourism. Giving up certain home game wins (Port have a terrible record against us at the MCG) will never get us far up the ladder.

Special mention to:

Kent - Selfish goal hog who can only kick on one side

Tyson - Didn't even make the plane trip

O.Mac - Has no actual AFL skills and has no balance

Harmes - Needs to go back to VFL - only survives via some cameos

Kennedy - got stuck in the terminal like Tyson

Shouldn't have played, still nowhere near 100%

Way too many missing and horrible mistakes by foot and hand.

Diamond defense has more holes than swiss cheese.

No intensity.

Horrible game by all standards.

Disappointing, to say the least

Tyson was obviously not over his illness.

Oscar is no way a better option than Dunn at this stage.

Newton and Neale Bullen did not take their opportunity

Petracca's worst game

Midfield did not work despite Gawn playing well

Kennedy had a bad one

Harmes had a bad one

Game plan got caught out today.

Ever time they switched they had players free all over the place.

We will not play finals this year.

Far too many passengers.  The old saying "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" showed quite a few up today.

Not that we needed proof but the work up by the media this week proved they are clueless. Jump on the bandwagon for clicks. We are way off.

Also why can't we throw the ball as well as other teams. The one time we tried it and I think it was hunt who got pinged for a throw yet port did it quite a lot. We need to work on this

So many problems today.

Got completely outcoached. Had no idea how to stop that deadbeat Westhoff, no idea how to stop the quick run off half back, no idea how to prevent so many goals over the back.

Had numerous key players who couldn't get near it today including Viney, Vince, Tyson, Garlett, Kennedy, Newton, Harmed and so forth. Most of our midfield couldn't win a clearance which was the most costly aspect.

We also cost ourselves dearly in selection again. Didn't make enough changes, didn't bring enough support in the ruck. We needed Pedersen but for some reason went short with Newton who is so poor it isn't funny. As a result we got smacked in the air down back, lost numerous clearances, and continuously got smashed by a loose man in defence.

A combination of terrible dumb coaching, awful effort from 90% of the team and a complete lack of run killed us today. We are not a finals team and we are about to start a long stretch of very difficult games. This was a golden opportunity blown.

Disappointing game, never really gave ourselves a chance at it. Too many looked flat or ahead of themselves.

Out: ANB, Newton, Harmes

In: Oliver, Trengove, Dawes

Tyson and Kennedy only play if 100% which neither obviously were today.

Re-sign Jetta ASAP. Forget finals. I never thought it was a realistic expectation, but cetatinly it gave/gives the players something to aim for. We have improved but, if you cannot beat teams above/ahead of us then the improvemen is incremental. Which is how the season is now heading for us. We need to again get time into the young ones BUT also see who will stand up in games like this. Way way to many passengers again against a team we don't match up well against. Diamond defence is cubic zirconia. Let's get a plan B at worst. I never expected a win but hoping for a better performance. Back to the pool here in Bali

I hope the club comes down hard on few payers this week and drops 3 or 4.

Newton typifies the club to me. He is 24 and has played 16 games.

Not many other clubs would have someone like that on their list.

Another is Garland who is like Miller of old and just keeps getting picked.

We seem to lack the real intensity from not just players but all on all levels.

Its a credit to us supporters that we keep backing them.

Yes we have improved and done some good recruiting but we need to do much much more to not just play finals one day but to be genuine contenders.

We wont get there with quite a few of the players on our list as well as moving home games 1000 miles away.Think BiG picture like a premiership. That will boost the coffers.

Us supporters deserve it. We pay for it all. I mean we have been patient for fifty years now. Cut us some slack MFC. Please.

Cannot see us winning anymore than 3 matches which means we will end up a slightly better team than last year. Calls from supporters for ANB,NEWTON and MICHIE to be selected is premature, lets face it senior footy is far more advanced than reserves footy. Let's face it Oliver,Brayshaw (when fully fit) and Vander are much better. Where is MATT JONES? he was playing alright until getting injured.Another rebuild is required at year's end. I don't see Dawes making any difference if and when he becomes available. Trengove may be useful. Why do the reserves get a day off? just because they are playing the SANFL. The reserves start later than the AFL , just don't get it.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
