The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

It's a business. If his dad is the reason he is undecided, then it is probably better than we force him into a trade. It is a ruthless industry and ultimately the club has been [censored] over too many times and must get this sorted. It may involve us making a decision for him. IMO if he can't commit within the next few weeks, we need to move on. Because if we linger around and he puts of chatter, we have another year of this and ultimately we have less power at the trade and compensation table because he is out of contract. We come out of it good anyway, but imo this needs to be sorted before Christmas. Both Freo and WC are ready to deal *now*. We may be limited next year.

Disagree this needs to be sorted in the trade period Praha.

Trade him now if he's grumbling,  Freo's 2016 1st Rnd pick,  plus they're 2017 1st Rnd pick  & Barlow or similar ;  for Hogan + our 2016 2nd Rnd pick.

I'll be OK with that.

We definately need an answer by trade week (which is Oct 20?)

there is no need to monitor clubs progress next year. That is utter BS

Interesting that the journos did not mention any illness in the family.

We are being fed crap from many sides at the moment...

Yay or Nay Jesse

will Goodwin fly to Perth?

I think i would.

The only 'info source' we have is a GNF post last week that the outlook for Jesse's father was dire.  And I'm not sure he is that reliable a source.

I'd be inclined to go with the journos and the press ie the decision to return to WA will not be made on family matters.

think we have more sources than gnf, luci, though without searching the archives i can't be too sure

You don't want Hibberd? Your trading away his pick.

If it's extended out and he doesn't re-sign, we're at a massive disadvantage next year. If WC and Freo are prepared to deal now and with teams like GC and Essendon looking to deal, it is the best time to get this sorted. We lose out massive if we don't sort this before the 2017 season, because if he stays and then doesn't sign, we stand to get much less than we could this year.

Family reasons is a good controversy deflecting  tactic.  Hard to question without appearing heartless. A favourite tactic of disgraced politicians.  And we had one the other day.

Yes, but swings and roundabouts, we can get a 2nd Rnd pick back in for Hibberd via horse trading,  after we get the Hogan contract sorted.

Club is much bigger than the individual. Agree with the trade now senario if he is hinting towards leaving.

As for Hogan for pick 1, pick 29 and Hibberd unfortunately we may have to settle for something like that.

Still not ideal.

Pick 1 - Potential 150 game player

Pick 29 - Need lots of luck

Hibberd - 26 year old coming off 12 months out of the game

At least we know what we've got with Hogan.  A 21 year old budding tall forward who could be in the top five players in the game in three or four years.

Hope to Christ he stays but do we really need a circus next year??

12, 29 and Darling is a bargain for WCE, I think there would have to be something bringing 29 down inside 20

If the club takes that I'd be filthy.

I'd want Weller and Freo's first round pick, or Fyfe and their second pick.

Hogan is hot commodity and in demand. They are BOTH desperate, especially Freo.

We are in a very good position to get more than just Hibberd and some picks.

Can I just go on record saying I DO NOT WANT Darling?

Nah, Essendon want Darling. So the idea was to involve them in a potential trade.

We get Ess #1, Hibberd and WCE#29 (But I think we would want lower than 29) and we KEEP Pick 26

Ess get WCE#12 and Darling

WCE get Hogan

SOrry for the trade spam, i play too much premier manager and get off on this stuff

Need to question the character of Hogan if he decides to leave .. Why would u give up the relationships with your players & coaches & a list showing signs of playing finals & success for an extended period of time hopefully.. Afl may as well rap up the trade process & get young players to nominate which state they want to play in & if they are not picked up by a side in their state.. Stiff cheddar! Too many of these players want it both ways .. It's an 18 team competition & should be grateful of having the opportunity to play .  In hogan case it's playing in the G in the heartland of footy! Understand if he's given his service like 7-8 yrs eg Dangerfield .. Give me a break will u! If he wasn't out club should command the trade on their terms or sorry your playing for Melb!

Balls to all of this. He is ours for at least 2017. If he wants to go after that then let him walk into the draft and see how he likes Brisbane. I don't care if it costs us but the one thing I wouldn't do is facilitate a trade back home. Not coz I'm a cold hearted bastard (even though I am) but to send a message that if you want to go then go, but good luck enjoying life in the worst team we can find. Same applies to all required players

I'll take the hit. Messages to the players are better than draft pics

And that will help us attract players in the future how exactly?

Silly post.

Forget sending a message based on emotion, letting him go to the draft is an atrocious result for the club, which will always be the priority.

Essendon fan on BF suggested including Darling in a 3 way so I thought maybe:

#12 and Darling to Essendon

#1 and Hibberd to Melbourne & WCE Pick 29

Hogan to WCE

Don't know why an Essendon fan would suggest that?

They get scre₩ed!

We have had a number of posters on DL confirming his Dad is very sick, Pennant St Dee being one and i've never sen anyone question his credibility (and nor would i).

To be frank i'm amazed at the tone of some of the comments surrounding Hogan, particularly those that are clearly skeptical of his motives and those demanding he make a call. For Pete's sake give the kid a break

You'd know about [censored] posting. You are the king of it, SJW.

But for others there I'll state my position. I think he will stay. I think he will see we are building something nice. But if he wants to go he goes on our terms. Not his. No player is bigger than the club. Stay, go, but don't expect us to help out your dreams. Your dreams are here or if the aren't then we forget your name.

Still seems like the journos have nothing but are now scrambling as they don't wanna seem to be scooped on the story.  Prestia has been sorted; O'Meara sorted; Cloke sorted... gotta speculate about someone.

With that said, I'm not naive enough to suggest there's no story here, just that no one has the story, but they're still trying to print one.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
