They will have a truck load of money if they backend his contract with immanent retirements  of Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Roughhead (?) Gibson etc. They are also always going to be attractive enough from an on field perspective

That is a solid handful of some of their best players you have given there and whilst I know they still have a lot of other talent left in their team, you have to wonder if the appeal to go to Hawthorn would still be there once all those players are gone. However, Hawthorn evidently have an excellent coaching team and will no doubt continue to produce more stars for their future e.g. James Sicily.

I do hope and think Hogan will stay. Following the Freo match at the end of the team song, you see Hogan give a little fist pump in the end – obviously very happy and proud of the club.

What, no BIG fist pump?

Just a guess  - he will re-sign but not until well into preseason, likely sometime in early 2017 when theres no footy but the excitement of the season is nearing.  Would be a huge boost for memberships and give us a full couple of days of media exposure with nothing else going on at that time.

Extending this season would be pointless from a purely marketing perspective.

About six weeks ago when he first claimed the same thing he alluded to it being inside knowledge. Today he added that Hogan won't be coming home at any stage.

He thinks Melbourne will be able to offer the same amount of money as Fremantle, that Fremantle are a mess and the go home factor so he can surf with his mates is a joke.

He didn't really add much and it's quite common sense stuff but any talk of him not leaving is good talk.

He did.  He also said he would provide more detail when he did his regular report the following week.  Still waiting for that 'detail'

Just on the radio over here in the west, Karl Langdon said he spoke with Glen Bartlett at a function last night who stated Hogan will not be traded under any circumstances.

There was a bit more said but mostly stuff we've heard. Hogan is loving Melbourne, his girlfriend is from Melbourne etc.

Ethan, taken in isolation with no context, this is open to multiple interpretations!  Was Glen saying that there is no way he would be traded at the end of this year ie with a year to run on his contract?  Or was it more definitive than that?  Surely if Hogan insists on returning to Perth at the end of 2016 (improbable in my view) Melbourne will be forced to trade for him, lest they end up in a GWS / McCarthy scenario?  Did Langdon come off his hitherto unequivocal position on this?

Jesse Hogan says he hopes to make decision on his Melbourne future ‘sooner rather than later’

choice quote:

“There’ll be a time where I’ll want to sign, or whatever the case may be, and that will hopefully be sooner rather than later,” Hogan told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“Hopefully over the next six months, or whenever it happens to come about, I can get it done.”

I take this as a positive sign

surely if he was leaving he wouldn't announce it in the next 6 months, he would wait till end of season 2017?

either that or he requests a trade at the end of this season.

optimists see: hogan is re-signing within the next 6 months! yay!!

pessimists see: hogan will request a trade at the end of this season! tears!!

Yep. Put me in the cautiously optimistic category.

For me the most significant quote from Jesse is:   “The factors are probably where the club is heading, that’s the main one,” Hogan said

If the quotes are truthful, I don't like them.

A month ago I was confident he was staying, but I can see him leaving if we crash and burn in the last 6 games.

Want him to stay... but if he is to leave this year is when we will get max value.

It could be argued if we crash and burn then HE too is as much the cause as he might be a cure. Its just a postulation .

A visionary might want to among those that CAUSE success, not wait for it

He is.  He seems to be the king of the 'we lost on the weekend so the world is caving in' outlook this week.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
