Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Two things stood out for me watching replay on 7.  The commentary team were cheering and willing on Richmond, and the same people went out of their way to highlight how great Cotchin was and what a superb leader blah blah blah!!!!!

Normally do not give a toss, however it was so obvious it pizzed me off when Melbourne was playing so well.

Actually Carey, Zemplis and the brother of Gill showed very bad bias with their commentary.

In the end we won the game, won the fight, and that's all that matters, but still annoying to see such bias commentary.

How does Gills brother get a gig calling games? He is terrible.

The commentary last night was embarrassing. Basil and Brother of AFL CEO.

They were in Sympathy for Rance.

The MFC should be filthy on this.

It is obvious many like the Demon to sleep. I just hope soon we as a club are Hated and feared...

I didn't watch the Seven coverage as I was at the game, but I feel like a lot of the time they will the team that's losing to come back to create a grand stand finish.

Dont know if that's what went on last night but who cares, we won!

To be very honest i dont give a rats what they say the Dees won with relatively ease.

tough fellas and there is more to come.

The presentation of the club through the TV commentary can impact though, especially when talking about marketing to prospective supporters.

That's exactly what it was. No bias at all. Some people need to shed their victim mentality.

Exactly - it's network television and there's always going to be more independent viewers than alligned viewers watching- they need to be given a reason to stay tuned in.  They try to sell every match as a great and exciting encounter and always look to sell an underdog narrative.

If the commentators were actually honest they'd say 'rubbish game, you may as well change over and catch the end of Midsummer Murders.'

I watched the replay this morning and couldn't believe how they were sticking up for Rance after his dog act.One comment was something along the lines of "you have to feel for him".What about feeling for Watts?

Just watching the replay of the 4th quarter and while the Demons run away with the game the commentators cant stop gushing about 'brave' Trent Cotchin as he leads his team to yet another loss.

The commentators need to be taken with a grain of salt...they talk up ordinary games as blockbusters etc.  They try to explain things which are just wrong. Case in point last night was when Cotchin got into Bernies back late in the game. On the replay this morning, as it showed Cotchins hand in Bernies back as they were falling forward, the commentators were gushing how umpire got it correct, no push in the back, when the vision showed the complete opposite, Bernie being pushed forward by Cotchin.

i guess we should be used to crap commentating, there is so much of it about....and that's not even starting on Bruce's 'what do you thing duck ? We're great mates aren't we duck...huh duck ...duck?'

Funny you should say that. Wasn't there a Melbourne captain who went by the name of Nathan Jones who received little to no plaudits when he would play his guts out when his team was continuously smashed. Can't stand the channel 7 commentators sometimes (Hamish, Basil). Their bias is astounding.

Commentary was substandard. On a few occasions Melbourne players were wrongly named. I understand we have some new faces but it is the game callers job to know who they are.

The rance thing was a joke. If the roles had been reversed I have to think Melbourne would not have been shown the sympathy and rationale that Rance was given.

It's not victim mentality.  It's not just Melbourne which suffers from this so I think I can rule out my pro-MFC bias and victim-hood.

I watch a lot of footy and as was said, you often hear the commentators willing a come-back and looking for positives in the losing team to keep the viewers watching, but what happened last night was totally over the top.  It is usually big clubs which get this positive treatment no matter how weak the prospect of them coming back is.  Also, some teams appear to have anonymous players.  I don't notice it much in Demons' game because I know who the players are, but watch a close match between a big team and a struggling one, and you'll often wonder if the struggling team's players have names at all.

Basil does this often. Sandy Roberts does it chronically. Substandard.

I recall Bruce in one game, with 3 minutes left and a team nearly 5 goals down, saying, that he thought there might not be enough time for them to get up and win. They do try and keep the interest up.

I remember a game a few years ago with the same situation. It was Brian Taylor commentating and he reckoned there was still time.

Bruce and Dennis are the best. They always make it seem like the underdog can come back until it is obvious that they can't. Then they heap praise on the winning team.

Sandy isn't up to it anymore unfortunately because I liked him but he gets about 20 players names wrong every game now. Huddo is probably my favourite with Cometti coming in at a close second. Carey is a fairly good special comments man and I feel like most of the others just talk about how good the players are especially Ling. The new bloke who's commentating this season isn't bad at all, not sure what his name is

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
