Why raise Tanking again Garry?

Redleg

Recommended Posts

I was very disappointed to hear Garry Lyon raise the MFC Tanking hearing, on Footy Classified on Tuesday. There was absolutely no need to, during a discussion of the Bombers player suspensions and it just put some more Sh- t on the club, for absolutely no reason.

Couldnt imagine MFC Officials would be thrilled.

Red I think it's because a football club get a bigger fine for not tanking then it does for have a program of injecting illegal substances to its players.

Whilst disappointing 'Red', he did also say we weren't the only club...

I think Garry made a good point, Essendon is probably not the only one team that had players that took prohibited drugs just like Melbourne was not the only team that tanked.  He is demonstrating the manufactured outcomes the AFL creates to sweep things under the carpet.

In the nicest possible way Mr. Leg

Get over it.

I thought the AFL investigation found no evidence of tanking by the MFC.

They also think the Essendrug players were unjustly suspended DF

So I would not use them as any  guiding light.

Melbourne we're not guilty of tanking according to our friends at the AFL, only of bringing the game into disrepute. How is it that we can still get this distinction wrong ??

The tanking decision was made in Vlad's days, while the Drug Lords had Dill in charge.

Can you not see the difference between these two opinions?

Essendon were very arrogant and now pay the price.

I thought he was more saying that if an independent body had investigated and judged that we would have been in trouble - ie he had no faith in the afl to do things properly.

The purple headed warrior pretty much said he didn't have  any faith in the afl anti doping tribunal because it was afl run straight after.

Ie they are corrupt

It's funny how posters here lament the bias of pro-Essendon media personalities who blindly support their club, yet we chastise Melbourne personalities refusing to do the same. Lyon should be applauded for calling a spade a spade and not blindly supporting his former club, rather displaying objectivity as a commentator even if it's an inconvenient truth about past mistakes of the MFC.

The point Lyon was making about our laughable "guilty for not tanking" finding was just how corrupt the AFL is; a corporation who now put their business interests before justice, and he was 100% correct.

Why raise tanking again Red?  Every time you complain the wound just gets opened.

I think we tanked, you don't. But by raising it you just remind me we did.

We all know what happened. Help the club and move on.

Of course they did. We were just the unlucky ones that got busted.

I thought the context was right.

He compared the AFL's performance over tanking to the doping scandal. I dont think the handling of either issue has been one of the AFL's shining moments.

Exactly! We were punished by the AFL for "bringing the game into disrepute" (by being fined and  denied Priority Picks) despite being found innocent whilst EFC is rewarded (with "top-up players and financial assistance) for being found guilty of running a drug regime. Talk about double standards and re-inventing the definition of "disrepute".

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
