He certainly has the pace we need off half back and HL might not have done enough yet.

I don't think Hunt was eligible to play at Casey today.

How did mitchie go? 2 goals but much else?

i think he is building some decent form so wouldn't be surprised if he is upgraded this year

You're right there RTG. It's early days. He has the height to play KPF, is a strong mark and is mobile. He just needs to grow into an AFL player's body and get experience at this level - perhaps even a whole season. I suspect however, that like Oscar McDonald last year, he will be eased into it with a couple of games late in the season.

It was a much better effort than last week when the players downfield didn't look like hitting a target. And it was also his first game of any sort for about 10 months.

It's interesting you say that WJ - in years gone by I would agree, yet if the club is a sniff of finals going in to the last few rounds then he might just have to wait until 2017 to get those couple of games.  It would be nice to see that happen for the first time in almost a decade.

I can't imagine this quote from jay Clark would please dunny too much:

'McDonald, 20, also continued his excellent preseason, taking several strong grabs in defence, and could edge out Lynden Dunn for a Round 1 guernsey'

I'd go for Mitch White to be upgraded, but there no rush ,give White Michie and Wagner a few weeks to see who has the best block of form.

Channel 7 news piece on Jack T's comeback last night mentioned he might be chance to have a run in an intra club to be played Good Fiday at Goschs! Hope they are reporting accurately.

Surely we will not have an intraclub the day before our season opener?

OMac might play i guess but certainly not at Dunn's expense. Jay Clark is reasonably experienced so it is amazing for him to write something so implausible

My comment was based on that not only will Lynden play (he is the glue to our backline in my opinion) but that Oscar is still a good 12 months away from being AFL standard.

Yep you may well be right about OMac. I agree btw on Dunn being our glue down back. Criminally underrated player

I got there early and had to leave early so I missed the nail biting finish.

In the early game J.Lovett spent as much time sitting on the bench as he did on the ground. I am not sure why, unless they are easing him into it.

I  had my eye on him when on the ground, and he has a bit to do, still hasnt done anything of note for mine. I hope that changes before the season is over. He has time on his side but is going to have to work harder during a game.

Oscar player a good game (in my eyes). So did Dunne, though Dunne I expect more from, and a few times threw a team mate under the bus with a stupid handballs.

Sighted Roos at the ground, along with T Mac and Jetta, to add to names in the previous reports.

*Parking at the ground was a nightmare*  I left before the rush, so that was a bonus.

Dunn is a hardened 28 y/o, 160 gamer and one of the first picked when fit. OMac is a skinny kid who did little to impress in the NAB Challenge. With some luck, he'll replace Dunn 2-3 years down the track but there's not a hope in hell he gets picked ahead of Dunn next week.

Are you serious or having a lend of us ?  Hunt barely touched the ball in the 2 games I saw him play.  He is a long way from his debut.

No chance.   Was dropped for NAB 3 and anonymous in the first two NAB games.  No chance they take a kid whose hardly played any football and not play him for two weeks and then play him in what's effectively a huge game off the back of no form.  Seems nonsensical.  Would reckon he's further off a game than he was at the end of last year.

Easy on Redleg guys, he just had a hunch. But I believe as Roger said after playing 3 games he wasn't illegible (or needing) to play today.

By the way, I don't think he's that far from the best 22 even if he didn't do a lot in the first 2 games. He's got a lot to learn but he's still a speedy half back which isn't a position there's a lot of competition for. I think Goodwin rates him and has a good relationship with him. Let's see how he goes in his next game (which is likely to be at Casey)

We've picked up a discrepancy in the goal kickers from yesterday and made the amendment by crediting Viv Michie with an extra goal.

Also please note the spelling of Sam Weideman's surname.

Surprised to hear you say that. Since the end of last year, he's had his first pre season at the club, made it to the NAB Challenge squad where along with one or two others, was used sparingly and then by all accounts had a good game for Casey. Why do you think he's going backwards?

Watched  both  the  development  and  senior  games  and  there  was  a  player  I  liked  for  Casey.  Can  anybody  tell  me  anything  about  no.  25  McInerney.  He  was  the  ruckman  in  the  dev.  game  and  played  well.  A  big  lump  of  a  bloke  who  didn't  mind  getting  down  when  the  ball  didn't  clear  the  centre  pack.

His  ruckwork  was  good  and  he  hit  to  advantage  a lot.

Didn't realize he was ineligible to play for Casey yesterday. Probably wrong then on my hunch.

Disagree with your last sentence.

We are slow off the half back line and he has pace. The only one I can think of with real pace other than him, in that area of the ground, is HL. I don't think Salem is overly quick and am not even sure he will stay on the half back line long term.

Red you can have all the pace in the world, you still need to get the pill and dispose of it properly. Not saying he is or isn't up for it as I have seen very little of him to this point, just the blank pace description doesn't determine it.

If people are still spelling Trengove as 'Trengrove' around here, then the chances of his last name being spelled right on a consistent basis are slim to none.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
