Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If we cannot flip 6 and 3, who do we take at 6? Assuming (without academy players) that the top 5 will be Weitering, Schache, Parish, Curnow, Francis. Who do we take? Mathieson?Weidmam?

Balic or Tucker I reckon for some outside run. Very confident we'll be able to get one of Curnow or Francis at 6 though.

picks 1 and 2 are locked in with Weitering and Shache

Unsure about pick 3. I reckon the Suns take Curnow, but many people say Francis. If the Suns take Francis, then the Bombers will take Parish and the Saints will probably go with a mid considering they have McCartin, Reiwoldt and Bruce. Somehow Curnow Falls to us. Only the Suns would take Curnow in the top 5, if they pass on him, he should slip through

1-2. Scache/Weitering (Carl/Bris) - the best 2. Simply a matter of who Carlton rate more highly.

3. WILDCARD. If they lose Dixon and Smith, I can see them taking Weideman over Francis. This is highly dependent on other trades - but realistically they could go anywhere, given they've just lost Bennell, and are probably expecting to lose Prestia in the near future. (GCS)

4. Francis - if available. Otherwise? Probably Parish. (Ess)

5. Mathieson - They need to replace departing players. The best bet to replace Montagna. (StK)

The way I see it, Curnow will probably still be available. I'd wager we're trying to shake a few trees and see what drops.

Given the reliance on talls in the pointy end of this draft, I'd be very surprised if we were actually interested in keeping pick 3 in the mooted trade with GCS.

Edit: This was all over the place. Changed my mind mid-post and forgot to take out some of it.

I really can't see Curnow getting to us at 6 and would be very surprised if Mathieson went before him.

I wonder if Sydney, might be interested in a few second rounders for academy/fs selections?

Lots of talk about gws, however the Swans have some players they are keen on.

If we could flip Howe and Toumpas for some picks between the 15-30 mark could we look at helping out the Swans with their bidding and perhaps land Jones in the process?

Maybe this means that if we got pick 24 from collingwood for howe, we could on-trade that to gold coast with our pick , to get back pick 3 and 35. Then gold coast could trade 16 and 24 to gws for pick 8?

thats what i was thinking too

Guys, I don't know how negligent Josh Mahoney has been in this, however, I've chosen this as the catalyst to document some very negative feedback I have received recently about Josh.

You will have to respect my sources, however, please be assured that these comments are 100% factual.

I play tennis with a guy who had a role for the years 2013 & 2014 within our football Dept. and let me assure you this guy has has had involvement in at least two other very successful football Clubs.

His feedback of Josh Mahoney paints a picture of someone totally out of his depth and well below the standard of his peers at other AFL clubs. He cites a lack of attention to detail, follow-up and General inspiration as major weaknesses. I was also told by him last week that a current member of the Football Dept. was harshly criticising Josh to him on the day before our discussion.

I have also been told by my very close contact within the Hawthorn playing group that James Frawley has also been very negative about the effectiveness of Josh Mahoney.

I've never met Josh, however, others I have asked, have told me that he certainly wasn't hit with the personality & energy stick and they thought the only reason he survives is that he takes on everything Senior Management throws at him which has the effect of him perhaps having too much on his plate.

I'd love to know why the club are sending out so many mixed messages. Roos says we're a destination club then Mahoney comes out saying nobody is interested in coming to us.

Like, because that's such an intelligent thing to say publicly during TRADE WEEK.

Even if what you say is true, he has Viney, Taylor, Jackson, Roos and others to discuss trades with. Are you saying they are all no good?

Also, Mahoney has been at the club in some form or another for 7 years. In that time, almost EVERYONE from the admin to the coaches to thew players have been shuffled in and out. If JM is so sub-par how he has survived all this turmoil over the years?

The fact that a supporter has worked this out over our recruiting staff us bizarre. Is this just a suggestion or a rumored trade?

Stating facts. How do you know our recruiting staff weren't aware of the pts system?

It constantly amazes me that some of us know more than a team of people who do this for a full-time job. That's not to say pros won't make mistakes. But the proof is in the pudding and we haven't yet see it before it goes into the oven, let alone get to taste it next season.

Mahoney was placed in that position by PJ, who has since extended that role. He has been through turmoil after turmoil at the club and continues to be valued and promoted. If he is an incompetent as some on here would that suggest, that would mean that the entire management structure at the club is at fault; Roos, Jackson, Bartlett, etc.

or...

It's only half way through the trade period, we're not leaking information, and the majority of the 'trades' that people are melting down over haven't actually happened yet.

Unfortunately, you cannot accurately judge a trade period until years after it has happened.

I have also been told by my very close contact within the Hawthorn playing group that James Frawley has also been very negative about the effectiveness of Josh Mahoney.

It's quite clear we wanted Frawley to go for the compensation received. Mahoney and the coaching group probably didn't want to have anything to do with him to make sure he left as that's where his value lies.

Will be the same for Howe. We offered him a contract worth peanuts as he has more value elsewhere and it forces there hand.

I say well done Josh. Tough gig and he will cop a lot of heat from it.

Well done

Everybody would be over the moon if we landed Prestia today - but we seem to be an excellent chance next year and the price would be crazy until then.

The last two post-seasons have been excellent and the club is better placed because of it. Shiny new toys are nice, but we need a well rounded resilient list.

Each club has different factors they have to consider - Cats couldn't possibly seek to add talented youth as they'd give up a few years of competitiveness for watched overhyped spuds.

- If I were a Geelong supporter I'd be v. happy. 3 no brainer moves. BUT they are still seriously lacklustre and overrated in their below 23s, and the three new guys replaced ageing though experienced talent. No certainty to bounce straight back into the 8.

Josh sound really tired and flat on SEN last night. It made me wonder who does the negotiations.

I assume Taylor/Viney do the trade negotiations with clubs and Mahoney does the contract negotiations with the players.

Most other teams have their head recruiter/list manager (Wells, Dodoro, Llyod etc) do the media work.

Mahoney is our media spokesperson during trade week.

I like that we have only one spokesperson for the club - consistent public story and all that.

Maybe he has too much work in trade week and someone else should be our chief spokesperson?

Interesting post...

I thought he was gone with the previous admin but PJ seemed to like him so he stayed on. I am sceptical of anyone that was part of the MFC titanic years and hope he is not retaining his job because he is a good yes man.

I guess time will tell but a few things have happened recently that give me cause to think.

Melksham being a better player than the player Essendon take at 8 is a plausible outcome.

This could be where Howe really farks us up because we might have got a second rounder in the mix with GC that we could have used in this scenario

Why is everyone pinning things on Mahoney? Is it cos hes our spokesperson in trade week?

Pretty ridiculous hes being thrown under the bus when he hasnt done anything wrong

It's not about where we're at halfway through trade period, it's where we're at at 2pm next Thursday that matters.

The Howe ending up at Collingwood thing is so frustrating

If the GC deal came good for Howe, with that pick 3, we would have had a choice of Parish, Curnow or Francis.

I don't mind Balic or Tucker but would have loved the chance at the other three.

but we just don't know

we dont know what that actual deal was supposed to be, what else it involved and whether it would have gone through without Collingwood being in the picture

we don't know what the player drafted at 3 would have been like vs the one at 6

we don't know if Howe will become a superstar

we don't know if as a result of all this we will end up better off by making an entirely different trade with another club/pick/player

you might as well be frustrated by the idea that it might rain in a fortnight - you can't predict it and there's zero you can do about it

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
