Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Let's see, who are those kids and how are they doing now?

I'll highlight in bold the players who had an immediate, dramatic improvement in form and games the moment they were at a new club... oh gee...

Sam Docherty (Carlton); 19 games, 21 disposals, 6 marks per game, off half back.

Jared Polec (Port Adelaide); injured this year, but in his first year away from Brisbane he immediately became a key member of Port's midfield, earning 5 brownlow votes.

Elliott Yeo (West Coast); 24 games, ave 17 disposals, 5 marks, 3.5 tackles, kicked 18 goals. In fairness, it took a second year before really dramatic change.

Patrick Karnezis (Collingwood); nup, still sucks.

Billy Longer (St Kilda); 18 games, 9 disposals and 30 hitouts per game.

Jack Crisp (Collingwood); 22 games, ave 22 disosals, 4.8 tackles, kicked 16 goals

Looks like for all but one of those 'want-away mummies boys', leaving Brisbane made a dramatic and immediate difference to their football career.

But of course, the trouble is that they are 'entitled millenial whingers'. They should see how much loyalty they owe Brisbane, for giving them terrible coaching, a disunited and ego-riddled club living on past glories, and the prospect of their dream falling in a heap before it even got started.

If just one or two of these guys had suddenly turned things around, ok. But so many, so quickly? Even at Carlton?

Y'know what, I've changed my mind, I think we should get in the hunt for all of Aish, Redden and Luenberger.

Great point - totally agree.

And the Hawks played 4 talls in the Grand Final and Eagles 3 talls throughout the year, yet you want to copy a team that was knocked out week 1 of the final

I think it is more reasonable to "copy" where the Bulldogs are going, rather than trying to emulate a team that has been labelled by some as the greatest of all time.

This team, had the fortune to get it right and have early picks, in a couple of super-drafts. Then, they had the fortune after this stockpiling, for the league to introduce 2 expansion clubs that prevented teams underneath from rebuilding quickly.

You can copy the Hawthorn model, and good luck to you; but you will be wasting your time.

I'm with ProDee. You need a mobile forward line that can defend transition out. For what it is worth, Hawthorn's forward line is not slow. Roughead is super quick for his height/weight. Gunston, Breust, Poppy & Cyril don't allow hesitant defenders any time at all.

I did make a comparison, a comparison that he gets a grand total of 1 less possession a quarter then Hogan after you said he doesn't get enough of the ball.

If you could point out how that's me saying that Casboult is just as good as Hogan i'd love to hear it?

I made no comment at all about Casboult's possessions, I don't think he's the right player for us though.

For some reason you wanted to set up some sort of comparison between the 2...anyway, enough of this. You think he would be a good get, I don't.

If you take the norf game this year as an example , Hogan and Dawes took turns playing deep and giving a target up the ground and it worked well until they both ran out of legs in the last . We could either recruit a 3 rd tall to share the load or use a pederson king or watts as that player .Id Keep Dawes and add a player like Lennon or someone who can forward/ruck legetimately .

and he averages <10 disposals with 5+ marks, which means apart from the big grabs he doesn't do much else for the rest of the game

i do like his marking though and his goalkick in 2015 was running at 67% (24:12)

Agreed it wasn't you.

The argument was still made that he doesn't do enough, so response is in relation to that.

Dixon - look, yeah, he can take a mark and kick a goal but it is not that simple when he has to fit into Hogan's Forwardline.

I mention that a lot and I am aware that Jesse can adapt to play with anyone and any style of forward set up but I am more interested in winning than fitting all these good players into a forward line so I would like him without internal competition 25-35m out directly in front.

The amount of teams that will double team Hogan and attempt to run off him will skyrocket starting Rd 1, 2016. Giving him the 50 is going to be a tough ask but I don't think another tall like Dixon helps; he has to play deep and when there are two talls inside 50 then Garlett has to there too and suddenly that space is non-existent.

Plus he has played 65 of a possible 110 games the last 5 years.

Hogan was double teams pretty much the entire year this year, rarely saw him in a one on one. Having a player like Dixon would create headaches for the opposition because he would be in a one on one if Hogan is double teamed and vice versa. And if they do have the defence to stop the two of them then we could have a Pedo or Watts as a third tall running a muck on the fourth best defender from the opposition (the first three will be on Hogan and Dixon). We need another tall forward to remove pressure from Hogan, Dixon could be that. Hawthorn seemed to work pretty well with Bud and Roughy running around.

If you've ever been to China and had the misfortune of driving (or being driven rather), this is pretty much a standard day.

I once spent 4 hours being driven 40km across Shanghai.

It was slower than watching Melbourne climb up the ladder.

I got 50. there are a few empty, but 50 sounds about right. The bigger question is why have a 50 lane highway that filters into about 5 lanes after the toll both. That's about as smart as Andrews' western link to the top of the city!

I think it's just a visual metaphor to describe teams placed 7-12 at about round 18 each attempting to squeeze into the final eight.

Really have you analysed their list or seen any of their young kids playing as they develop in the two's

Vintage Ross Lyon because he's coached 1 other AFL side, bit like saying to the Crows why would you hire Malcolm Blight as a coach he clearly can't get his teams to win the big one after 3 GF appearances and defeats.

Chris you must be counting in imperial. in metric if you count the booths it is half that. Now that i think of it imperial makes sense.

I actually think that's a rip off for GWS. That's pick 16 this year with shallow top end talent, and probably pick 13-18 next year. KPF of his talent don't come along often.

Hes not a KPF though, hes more of a flanker. Cant take a contested mark for starters. In fact hardly takes any marks at all. He would crumble as the #1 target

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
