What we think a player might be worth might be entirely different to how another club might view that player

So ... "Trade him, he's no good" can be associated with "We could get a 2nd rounder for him" ... it's often a buyers and a sellers market.

That "want" often depends on the player involved - it's not an across the board thinking. 2 identical types of players may not be of any interest at all to any club or maybe one will attract interest. Or both might attract interest. Chaos can often rule with these type of things.

We've seen it happen countless times before ... often the "said" player might have had a good game against a certain team and that team's hierarchy remembers that good game. There are other reasons too of course - role player required or such like. Look at the interest that the Tigers suddenly had in Trengove - who saw that coming?

It should also be noted that T-Mac played forward towards the end of the season and Frawley played forward for most of the 2014 season - we might trade or draft for a tall or 2 who can play forward and O-Mac, Frost and even Petracca and vandenBerg can't be ruled out as tall(ish) forward options.

Roos has no doubt got some firm ideas about how he wants to structure our forward line ... we supporters are almost certainly in the dark on those ideas.

When Dawes trade rumour first surfaced last night on the Dawes player review thread, I actually thought it was a joke.

If Freo wants him and the club is happy to move him on they must have someone lined up and we would only be guessing as to who that might be.

Dawes has less value than Melksham.

Melksham is a young experienced mid who will continue to improve worth an early second round pick to most sides looking to build midfield depth. He would be in the starting 22 in most sides.

Dawes is an experienced 2nd forward with a solid workrate, provides a contest and a good kick for goal but is not a goid mark and his body is letting him down so probably has 1-2 seasons of footy left in him. Sides may be interested if they lack a key forward and are looking for a stop gap or protection while they develop their own talent.

Dawes is worth less than Melksham.

I disagree chookrat. if your only thinking physically onfield in terms of stats, then you might be right?

but in a clubs list, that has way too much immaturity, & youth gotten ahead of themselves, or one that's lost its way. Then a mature level head, helping to do a realignment, he would from my point of view, be very helpful.

Melksham helps, as he's in an area we are lacking from tip to toe. & he helps Goodwin as a loyal helper. he bolsters our mid range mids, & helps raise the overall level of our mids. maybe we can improve Melks as well.

I was hoping this would arise. We won't get far if we continue to play him. Can't carry him for 1 or 2 decent performances per year. Just too slow, out of touch, unfit. If he could mark or ruck he'd be of some value. If he can slot into another team then good on him, find the right environment.

It's not Fitzpatrick per se, more-so it would signal the club is still making poor decisions.

Pity Dawes doesn't play like a KPP.

Dawes fortunately has more going for him than his goal tally.

He provides a contest and makes space on the ground for Hogan who likes playing with him probably for those reasons.

More importantly he has played in a final series and will add that experience to our squad.

We can make the finals this year and as they say it is a new season. I will be hoping that Dawes is still there to help lift his teammates to that higher level when anything is possible.
