"Effectively missed a third of the season, given he was injured from rounds three to eight and was substitute upon return against Port Adelaide in round nine. The fact that he played 16 of 22 matches and still managed to finish runner-up and fall short of equaling Vince by the narrowest of margin was testament to his exceptional form in the games he played."

That's my ball. Give it back.

If we could somehow bottle that attitude and give it to the rest to drink we'd win every flag for the next 500 years.

I don't know how to link the photo, but that shot of him strutting away from Selwood down on his knees just sums up the guy. Strong, arrogant, fierce competitor.

crazy to think he's yet to hit the 50 game mark.

for mine, he is the equivalent of our joel selwood - he's fierce at the contest, determined, brave, and has the neversaydie attitude that you just pray for in your prime-mover midfielders.

he belies his height too by competing in the air against bigger blokes and we all know how strong he is at ground level.

he's a gem.

If we had 22 players running out each week with the competitive spirit of Jack Viney, we would be a very hard side to beat. If he can add a bit more polish to his kicking over games 50 - 100, we will have a super player on our hands.

Preaching to the converted here but will be one of the pillars of a new DEMON dynasty. Takes no prisoners, accepts no mediocrity. Will drag some kicking and screaming to a new level. Epitomises the heart and soul player with class that every team needs.

His quote when interviewed after the Geelong game about the flak he was copping from Selwood sums it up for me.

" It didn't worry me - I love that sort of sh*t".

Not named in the All Australian 22 for under 22's. Yet someone like Tom Langdon does.

Please explain?

Whats even funnier is that some said after the Nab cup essendon game that Viney was not in our best 22!

Would love to name some but il save them the embarrassment.

I remember when some were happy to let him pass in the draft because of his height.

With his attitude, nothing was going to be holding him back. Can't love the way he goes about it enough.

I agree re his kicking.

Surely, over the holiday period he should run quietly around an oval for a short time each day, simply kicking the ball with the right foot. He should not be content to be one-sided. Look how effective Vince is on the left when necessary, and for the Hawks, Mitchell is just a standout with did

Gun. Hoges said in interview that Viney is always the first one to start speaking up at meetings and almost tries to take too much on. Future captain. Tackle of the year in the saints game, 'you argue at your own peril with Jack Viney'.

Unfortunately Jack is competing with a much deeper pool of talent than what Langdon is for a position in the under 22 AA squad.

The fact that Luke Parker is under 22 is mind boggling.

I'm sure Jack will crack the squad if he keeps this incline in form going and progresses like Jones.

Love him.

That was me.

Yes, I wrote him off because I thought his kicking was atrocious last year and in the NAB Challenge

See Jack couldn't make it into the best 22 under 22 at the AFLPA awards.

Surprises me.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
