Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If we can snare a Bennell and then maybe a Redden, Bastinac or Melksham for some experience and real depth I'd be very happy with the trade period.

Then if the recruiters can find another Vandenberg in the form of a tall forward/ruck and some more outside speedy mids to round it off,it would be even better.

Ox stated in SEN that Melbourne are seriously chasing a couple of players up North. If we could manage a Bennell and Redden double this off season that would be massive for the club...not sure how, but get it done dees!!!

I wouldn't mind bringing in both Bennell and Redden. Bennell, whilst being a naughty boy, has skill and pace to burn. Redden reminds me a lot of Daniel Cross, handy given that Crossy was made to retire this year (wouldn't of minded if he went around for another).

But all will pale in comparison compared to Petracca. A midfield of Jones, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Redden & Bennell, with supporting players such as Kent, ANB, VDB and the unknown of Trengove, our midfield might start to become a strength of ours.

Yeah i heard ox. PROBABLE SOURCE DEMONLAND??

Exactly. It's no secret that we've been chasing topline mids over the past 2 years, so hardly a bold statement by Ox. But unless a player manager states that we are player X's destination of choice, I won't get my hopes up.

So he would like to move back out West.

It's not the same as Jetta situation where he nominated one of the Perth teams and a deal will be done because he is a required player, mainly because Jetta doesn't have the off field issues. But I would say if he is moving home to be nearer family/support then both clubs would look at him.

I was thinking the other day about how players nominate to go back home to WA (mainly in the great feat of losing Hogan). Have there been many more occasions other then Mitch Clark where a player has wished to go back only to be snapped up very quickly by a Melbourne club?

His family don't want him to move back to Perth, has too many bad influences over here. Unfortunately looks like he will indeed be playing for WC or Freo next season.

You realise that makes no sense

His family don't want him back in Perth, but he will go there anyway?

Makes perfect sense to me.

His family don't want him to come to Perth to play because of bad influences. He wants to come back anyway.

I did type it slower that time..

This is one area where the Interstate teams have a distinct advantage.

Say WA players want to return home, there are only 2 teams available, but if Vic players want to return home, 10 clubs are available and this clearly disadvantages teams like us, that are low on the ladder.

Just our luck, in a period where we are cashed up to try and lure somebody, alot of the good players seem to come from WA or Geelong.

Are we still talking about Bennell or Lewis Jetta?

Not at all. The way he accommodated big personalities like Schmeichel, Ronaldo, Ince, Keane, Hughes, Neville, Ferdinand, Evra, Robson and especially Cantona, and moulded them into title winning team after title winning team was one of his biggest strengths.

Cantona used to rock up to club functions in a suit and trainers, timekeeping was questionable, yet Ferguson recognised his genius and what a positive influence he was on the young players coming through and so he indulged him and made him feel special. Because of this Eric began to not only toe the line but led the way in terms of training standards and professionalism. He almost single-handedly won United the title in 96-97.

The man was an absolutely incredible man-manager. Also completely ruthless and was able to make decisions without emotion when he considered that players had become destabilising influences or were past their best.

I know he was THE best manager in world football, both tactically and in terms of man management. But he was renowned for ensuring no ones ego grew too big. Selling the likes Beckham in order to convey the idea that no one player was bigger than the club! All the players you mentioned were loyal and hardworking, putting themselves on the line for the club they loved. It was hardly a matter of Fergie allowing players to be twats like Balotelli, they were all well drilled and disciplined. Otherwise they were out the door, just look at Beckham, Sharpe, Ince, Van Nistelrooy, Schmichael etc. etc.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
