Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

in Hunt,Fitzy:- Hunt is Xpress some of his slower teamates will have to carry strobe lights to spot him. Fitzy defence/ruck could add versatility to the side.

out:- take your pick, any two snails will do.

I'm not sure that Hunt would be a good idea. He's only like 3 games back from a long term injury and we are all raving about him. All the young kids like stretch, ANB etc had to play well in the VFL for at least a solid month before even being considered for the AFL team. Hunt has only shown glimpses in two games and we are thinking about giving him a game. I'd say Roosy would want to see him play at least a few more good games before being considered.

We got very little again from our bottom 5, most noticeably JKH, ANB & Stretch. Brayshaw was quiet too, and Lumumba is clearly weighed down by his exorbitant pay packet because he was atrocious yet again.

I would play Grimes and Toumpas, and Fitzpatrick will be required if McDonald plays forward again. Any of those listed above could come out with little impact.

Do you get pleasure from rubbishing players? Disgraceful taunt against Lumumba

Didn't Roos say he's being groomed as a midfielder and not a small forward?

I think he's very coachable, which would be why Roos likes him so much. We've had far too many players that don't listen to basic instructions, and they all get shown the door at the end of the year.

How do we know JKH is very coachable? Has that been said somewhere?

That one was a rather inoffensive post to react to in relative terms. I think Harry's best defensive effort for the day was a falcon, and if by weighed down it's inferred not being able to get off the ground then I can't recall too many marks against limited opposition. If he's not providing rebound and run then his worth to the team is currently very low.

Edit: Just had a look - stats last weekend are not flattering. 1 mark - 8 disposals - 3 clangers. (AFL match center).

I think Lumumba spent a lot of the game on McStay who ended up with 5 touches and no scoring shots. By playing tall alongside Garland it allowed McDonald to go forward and give us the extra tall that seemed to do wonders for Dawes and Hogan.

Lumumba hasn't been great, but without him on Sunday we might've had to play Fitzy who could've reverted to tunnel ball at any stage and cost us the game.

If our deep defenders aren't touching the ball but their men aren't either then I'd consider that a pretty good result.

Basing your opinion on stats hey....

Clearly H needs to lift, but anyone suggesting the only player we have who tries to get the worst run and spread team in the league running and spreading gets dropped is only judging his contribution by stats and not watching and understanding.

Riewoldt is a certain starter.

If he didn't break down last week, why would he not be selected for a winnable game against us?

Not sure he's a certain starter but happy for him to play, we need to perform against the best players.

I agree with your post, but I think the bashing of Fitzy incident was a little unnecessary, he could have played on a young developing forward kept him to one handball and got him subbed before 3/4 time if we want to apply balance to your post also.

That said I don't know how many games we will be able to get away with only really playing one tall defender in Dunn with the others being midsizers, it worked against the young and inexperienced forward line of Brisbane, but probably wouldnt against most, well the good teams at least.

I don't recall saying he should get dropped. You also might notice the inclusion of stats was an edited afterthought. I based my opinion on watching the game and my understanding that his effort to get our run and spread going has been limited.

JKH should spend the rest of the year at Casey learning to take the first and best option rather than trying to do the flashy stuff.

In Hunt.

Be interesting to see what they do with Jamar.

I think thats a little harsh - it was his first game back at AFL after injury wasnt it? - rather someone that tries to take the game on and fails then someone that shows no effort (Howe).

I actually like the fact that he is willing to back himself and take the game on - he just needs to know his limitations (Tmac has improved here)

Jetta is someone he could learn off - he knows his limitations and takes appropriate risks giving us important run out of the backline.

His effort to run and spread has been far from limited. His ability to run and spread has been restricted somewhat by the fact he's the only one doing it. That's why he's so important to us, he's trying to get us moving, that's a vital thing for us going forward.

Lamumba was good on the weekend. scrappy game and he had a positive effect on most contests he was involved in. Watching at the game he was a vital cog in our dominant defence .

He showed class and poise in the 3rd quarter particularly to hit targets when others couldn't.

Toumpas is playing in the midfield at Casey and is still uncomfortable in contested situations. He is working really hard and shows vision ala when he handpassed to Grimes in space for that goal. At some point he should get another stint at senior level as part of that development. The idea is that eventually he will stay there as part of our best 22

And from the coach in his player assessment on Toumpas:

Toump’s link from mid-forward was good and he gave us some good ball use inside 50. He took two really courageous marks running back with the flight of the ball,

Courage isn't a problem for this kid. Also, he didn't play midfield on the weekend but high half forward, not a spot that I'd have thought suited him. He clearly lacks composure under pressure. And he's trying really hard. Hope he makes it.

That is all you can ask BB

8 touches, 1 mark, 1 tackle. I'm glad that meets your expectations for a guy who is probably in the top three highest paid players at the club.

Criticising is one thing. Rubbishing (and insulting) players (and other posters) is another.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
