The question I am now contemplating is whether this is THE game. The one to look back upon as when the rise started in earnest.

I know many believe that has already happened, and that is true in that the wheel has already turned from the debacle we once were.

But in terms of genuinely going into each game and believing we can win, was this the one? I thought GC in Round 1 might've been it, until it was revealed that GC were a trainwreck themselves.

I reckon this is a big win in more ways than one, I'll say that much.

Just like I dont think many players have break out games I dont think the club will as well. It is just the wins will become less surprising, the beltings against the tops sides will start to dry up and before you know it you will go to most games expecting a win and every game expecting a hard fought contest. There will be more downs as Geelong are far off a top side these days but there will be more and more ups along the way.

Some have bagged WYL over some of the things he has said on this board (myself amongst them).
One thing I will never question him on is his insistence that 186 was a turning point for the Melbourne Football Club (as it was then comprised).
Roosy talks about 'scars' but as far as I am concerned the biggest scar that this group has had is that day in 2011. In fact, the word scar implies that the original wound has healed. 186 was more like a festering sore, oozing pus.
I get the feeling that that scab has healed over. Granted that Geelong aren't the team of 2007 but I think that yesterday finally helped a few overcome some mental handicaps concerning whether or not they were 'good enough' to win games like that.
From now on, I hope that games against the Cats aren't pumped up as 'learning experiences' but as legit chances to win.

Personally I think the changing point was the QB game P. To me this was the mid field finally matching it and even getting on top of a quality mid field including Pendles & Swan.

We had Mr. Vince getting the best of Pendles which was some feat on the day and IMO this was also the turnaround game for Watts.

The tackle in front of goal and the resulting goal was like the spotlight highlighting the "positive" book end of his career. Everyone at the ground, including the players couldn't help but see it and it sent a message to everyone that Watts had finally found his "physical" mojo.

Have no idea why we suddenly clicked at the Cattery in terms of a win.... But it all came together on this day for a great win against all odds.

However, in order to cement this belief and avoid our usual 1 step forward 2 steps back trait we still need to string a few decent wins together on the trot and against decent opponents like the Cats. While it's important to celebrate a solid win and the breaking of the Cattery hoo doo, we want to make sure this isn't our major win and highlight for the whole season. Need to finish off the good work in the 2nd half.

Footy classified will be good because Garry will be happy to talk about it and im sure they will ask Lloydo about his article on roos yesterday, and Talking Footy is pretty good. I dont have foxtel but im sure they will be talking baout it on teh couch and of course afl 360 with roosy.

Having been at work yesterday im still catching up on highlights.

At least now when we have to go back to the cattery we wont be haunted by past events and have more confidence.

But from now on I think thats it. We stop talking about the past. We have the kids in hogan, brayshaw, neal- bullen and stretch to lead us into the future.

There was really only one stand out horrific tunnelball ... I mean turnover. There were some others agreed, but I don't believe too many horrors came out of the mid field contributors that day. I'm more talking from a "belief/confidence" point of view C&B. Think the bulk of the mid field grew an extra leg after this match regardless of what occurred around them, which in most cases was beyond their control.

Well none of the so-called ‘experts’ tipped this one. In fact one massive idiot said there was no alternate universe in which the Demons could win this one. What a goose! Don’t listen to that guy.

This should have been Geelong’s game. They were at home and celebrating Corey Enright’s 300th game.

Instead it was a victory for all those Melbourne supporters who have kept forking over their membership money even though it felt like throwing money into a cozy alpine fireplace.

Considering Melbourne spend most of their time focused on the mental scarring of the past eight years, this was the therapy session everyone needed.

Kardinia Park is the epicenter of the Demons recent awfulness, a period so bad that every single Melbourne supporter just knew we would stuff this one up.

But then they didn’t.

In fact, the mental fragility that has haunted Melbourne seemed to suddenly not be there. The more pressure Geelong applied the more the Demons seemed to lift.

It was highly irregular.

Geelong were good too. Not at their best but this was not a case of the Cats being awful and Melbourne being lucky. The Demons made Geelong awful through their constant pressure. Take Viney’s job on Selwood as the perfect example. It was two of the toughest players in the league and Viney came out well on top.

There were other highlights for Melbourne too. Angus Brayshaw is already a better player than James Frawley, while Bernie Vince thrives as a tagger. Nathan Jones was his usual epic self and Max Gawn spent the first half doing a very good Wayne Carey impression.

Suddenly, late in the fourth quarter, when I realised the Dees had it won, I had this warm feeling in my heart that I haven’t felt before.

A quick trip to the doctor and I discovered this sensation was something called ‘happiness’ and that my heart was actually fine. I can’t say the same for my liver though, which the doctor explained wasn’t feeling ‘joy’ but something called ‘alcoholic liver disease’.

Oh well, I’m a happy man today and that’s not something I can usually say on a Monday.

Agreed he was desperate and his chase was just many of the 1%ers which can make a difference, Means a hell of a lot more than flashing in and out of the game. Really happy with WATTS last 3 weeks just keep it coming

I love bagging the Scott brothers, but think you are off the mark here. While he did not heap praise on us, he did say that we dominated them in the contests. You are writing his words a little bit out of context.

And the guard of honor didnt need to be mentioned.

That moment summed up everything I hate about Geelong. Their smugness and arrogance knew (and for some, still knows) no bounds, and unfortunately they kept winning and kept winning premierships which made it impossible to criticise them for it.

Now that they're just mediocre, and we've finally stuck one up them, I have a platform for calling out flogs like Selwood, Hawkins, Johnson and Kelly.
