Dawes was amazingly clean on the ground on a few occasions. He had "great hands" everywhere except for marking.

And IMO not enough has been made of the captain's goal at the start of the last. Again, Dawes great hands with a ground ball, Jones right place right time never looked like missing. Perfect execution, perfect timing.

Its amazing how often this happens with Jones - will usually get it in a tough position and seems to just throw it on the boot.

I'm still not letting Roos off the hook for the previous 2 weeks. He needs to accept that we haven't got quality ball users in the backline (Salem excluded). With the spare man, we chip the ball sideways or short upfield, which allows the opposition to structure their defence. We went longer and quicker, and had confidence in our teammates. His postmatch press conference seems to suggest that the 1 on 1 set up in the backline/forwardline may be temporary. I hope not.

I am sure Roos is devastated to hear you haven't forgiven him.

He was good - backed up last weeks effort.

He now seems to go into contests hard and is backing his pace and foot skills (think he has finally turned a corner)

Next step is to be able to float forward and kick goals caus we cant rely on hogan and Garrlett all the time.

There was that one moment where he marked 10m in front and went to play on - almost stuffed it up - should know better then that. (you dont see hawthorn and sydney stuff those up)

Reckon I've see. Rioli do that dozens upon dozens of times.

There are reports coming out of Sydney and I stress these are unconfirmed at this stage. A man in his 30's was captured yesterday afternoon driving in a westerly direction down the M4 motorway doing some 30km below the speed limit, his car at times failed to stay in its lane, at times creeping into other lanes. Witnesses say the man seemed quite distracted constantly glancing at his phone whilst one hand was fist pumping the air. Telstra has confirmed the AFL game day live app was purchased hours before the alleged incident. When reporters caught up with the man outside his Cronulla apartment this morning he simply turned to the hoard and said "Jumbo, you may have been right about Watts" before being whisked away in his green 1999 Mazda 323.

What a confidence building win.

We will still lose games, probably still get belted, maybe even next fortnight. But now we can look at every game, every other club and think why not? To go to the scene of 186 and beat them, on Borris Enrights big day If everyone plays their role why can't we beat anyone.

My under 12's coach used to say "they have 2 arms and 2 legs just like you, its all up here (in the head)" Obviously its more complicated than that but confidence is an amazing thing.

The question I am now contemplating is whether this is THE game. The one to look back upon as when the rise started in earnest.

I know many believe that has already happened, and that is true in that the wheel has already turned from the debacle we once were.

But in terms of genuinely going into each game and believing we can win, was this the one? I thought GC in Round 1 might've been it, until it was revealed that GC were a trainwreck themselves.

I reckon this is a big win in more ways than one, I'll say that much.

Team team team team. Paul Roos is all about the 'team' ethos. The culture of a joint commitment. Play for each other. He's creating it, and the recruiters have done a brilliant job in servicing that. This club has finally turned. There'll still be many frustrations, we won't make the finals this year as some have wildly suggested, but we are BACK, people. It's gonna be fun.

This is why this win is different to the others. They had to win this as a team, couldn't leave it to a few individuals, or to half the team. They all had to contribute, and to trust each other & make position etc.

I think players are realizing both their own ability and the ability of those around them. Dunn's a perfect example. Has taken his game to another level especially with his disposal and decision making.

My favorite moment was shortly after Billy's goal in the last quarter with Geelong were attacking. Billy cuts off a handball and puts an excellent pressured tackle on. Another geelong player picks up the ball only to be spoiled by a stretched out diving Brayshaw. Wonderful stuff from out teens.

I agree with this, the way the game was played makes me believe that it can be sustained. i felt that after the first quarter.

The improvement is tangible, and it stems from a hard arsed midfield GROUP.

I like the way that many of our emerging young guns are saying that it is exciting being part of an emerging young group of talented players. There is a palpable feeling that they do feel part of something that is building. Jesse Hogan has made these comments and Billy Stretch and the Hyphen also. It seems a genuine thing and not just talk. It can only be good that these guys see a great future and want to be part of it.

Love this honesty. Absolutely so true. Last night at our family dinner, I was happy. The family were a bit shocked to see me transform from my normally morose depressive state into the life of the party. Ernest, why are you laughing, joking and being so nice ? Oh no reason I say, just trying to be sociable as I look at my phone to absorb the wonder of this miracle. The mood swings are part of being a Melbourne supporter, however, I could get to like the upswings.

Definitely my favourite win since the 2000 prelim or that final where a young McLean won the game in the last. It wasn't just the win but the way in which it occurred. Everyone played for each other and there was a sense of desperation amongst all our players that I can't recall ever seeing before. We did it with quite a young and experienced team and it just feels so different to all of our 'false dawns' of the past decade. I feel the need to highlight some particular player efforts.

Vince for completely changing the way in which he plays, he was a good player at adelaide even very good for one season but was never a desperate player and often went through the motions. Has turned into a contested and physical beast while still maintaining his polished skills.

Jones deserved that win more than anyone else out there. You could see how much it meant to him after the game and the respect that the entire playing group has for him. Him and the next bloke both appeared very emotional after the game.

Watts has turned a corner in the last 3 weeks. I wouldn't classify them as his 3 best individual games but certainly his most promising. Has come back into the team and while not by any stretch a contested player he is beginning to go when it is his turn and show more physicality. In the last few weeks he has finally decided to show some more of that pace that everybody knew he had. Took players on with his speed through the middle and wasn't afraid to make mistakes.

Viney has been brilliant when not injured this year. We really missed him when he was out. Has been consistently good all year and is really growing as a player. He played Selwood 1 on 1 without help as Roos and his teammates trusted him to complete the job. Absolutely killed Selwood, who aside from maybe 2-3 touches had no influence on the contest.

Gawn played his best game by far and showed more intent than I have seen before. He won't play like that every week but he now knows if he jumps and extends the arms that he will out mark almost anyone. Also gives our midfielders great drive, particular from the centre square.

Stretch and ANB showed great sings for players with very little experience. They are both a long way from being physically developed but added a touch of class. Great coaching leaving these 2 in after last week and a win like that would do wonders for their confidence and hopefully fast track their development.

Finally, Angus Brayshaw. We as demons supporters have spoken for year about the need to recruit or trade in a midfield gem. When we drafted him I just wanted to see him play 10-15 games and find his feet at this level in his first year. He came in straight away and showed physicality and courage well beyond his years. I would have settled for that alone as a first year player. Instead he has gone on to pretty much improve every game and show he has good speed, poise and skills for such a young player. Almost everything he touches turns to gold and he doesn't appear to have any weaknesses in his game. I'm very, very confident he is the elite gun in the middle that we have been desperate for all these years. Jones and Vince are playing out of their skin but I think Brayshaw will be a different type altogether. Absolute future captain material and his relationship with Jones is great for growing the culture of our club.

Bit of a long winded post I know but wins like that don't come around very often and the intent and resulting elation on the players faces after the game are the reason we are all football fans. We will make mistakes we are still young but it's the sense of purpose that must remain. The way the players are speaking of the team and one another shows that we may finally be getting on the same page. Exciting times ahead!
