Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

As has been mentioned elsewhere Kennedy of the GWS variety can't seem to crack into their team. Would anyone on here entertain a Howe for Kennedy trade with a swap of picks in our favour? Curtly Hampton is another player I think could fulfil that Halfback role. Good skills, quick and could cover for Salem when he eventually moves into the midfield.

Thoughts?

Probably not worth starting a thread on this guy as I believe he has re-signed until 2017 last year and is not a midfielder, but Adam Kennedy from the Giants can't seem to get a game this year after being a solid best 22 player since their inception. Can't say that I have seen a great deal of him but to my eye he appeared to be a good small defender with skills and pace that could help free up Salem to the midfield. 23 years old and has played 59 games, only 5 this year. Worth keeping an eye on?

Sounds like a Roos-type recruit. I've always liked how he's gone about it and I didn't even realise he wasn't getting a game. Maybe snare him with a second/third rounder.

Saw him play in a NEAFL game a couple of months ago, and brought him up as a recruiting target. GWS also has the likes of Marchbank and Ahern who may have surpassed Kennedy in the pecking order. A 3rd round pick should get it done.

Have heard the club is currently in negotiations with Gawn and Garland, both of whom are required players.

Apparently Howe, or Howe's manager, is being pretty difficult and there's not much dialogue between the club and Howe as a result.

I think he's been gone for 12 months now.

but to where, hmmn.

I'm ok with Dunn, Jetta and Cross as lockdown defenders. We need more creativity in the backline, and if we can't get someone like Yarran, I'd play Brayshaw as a half back/mid. He'd offer more than Grimes/Garland's combined 223 games of experience, for f'all wins. You seem to have too much of an emotional attachment to both. Having said that, I wouldn't be unhappy if Grimes remained at the club on a 1 year deal.

I don't think Grimes'y is on the short straw list yet, I think there is probably about at least half a bakers dozen, before his neck is placed down.

Really struggle with the dislike of Garland. He certainly isn't perfect but he is easily in our best 22. If you want to get rid of him put up a viable replacement that would be an improvement!

Grimes I see as a first drop defender to cover for any injuries. Again, is you want him gone then who plays that role?

we have to look at where our players are taking us to, where they/we will be in 3 Yrs time.

we need more speed all over, & more agility, run & take it on off the half backline, Salem isn't enough by himself. and we need depth to cover our more deficient areas on the list.

In terms of ruck forwards who might be available, not too many going around.

Off the top of my head, there’s Grimley at Hawthorn (probably between he and Ceglar for back up ruck duties at Hawthorn next year), Lycett at West Coast, Gorringe at GC, Hannath at Freo and Daw at North.

If we were going to invest in one through the draft, Flynn from NSW seems like the one that plays the dual role the best. Flynn’s potentially tied to GWS through the academy, but they probably won’t have the points to grab him. Late 2nd onwards probably his range.

Harry McKay’s a forward who could give a chop out in the ruck, but don’t think we’d go that way with our first rounder.

chaser, can you think of any who play like Clark Keating did. a small but powerful follower, who is right at home drifting deep forward, or coming in to smash packs & bodies, or ruck as well

when the Lions had Lynch, Bradshaw & Brown up forward, they had the most potent forwardline ever, IMO. Clark Keating would ruck in the finals crashing bodies & was extremely successful around the ground or dropping into deep forward.

he is the type i reckon, is the epitome of your 2nd ruck, that we need. doesn't have to be so quick but needs to run & run & have the footy IQ, & a great mark, with a dash of mean in his blood.

Dee-luded - there's a bloke at Geelong who would be perfect. Just can't get out on the park though.

Fair call on Vardy Skuit.

Yeah, Keating was a beauty DL, a real finals specialist (would spend most of regular season injured then get back in time for finals). Not many of that ilk floating around I'm afraid. Of the juniors, Parella from SA has that grunt and aggression, probably a third round prospect, maybe second for a side in real need of a young ruck.

State league wise there's Tagliabue from Essendon's VFL affiliate and Sam Baulderstone from Norwood who could compete at AFL level.

Apart from the blokes named earlier on AFL lists, the only other one that comes to mind is Todd Elton on Richmond's list. More a tall kpp who can ruck, but has the body size, and reasonable ability, but doesn't look like he's ever really settled at Richmond.

With Matt Jones still getting games, we're still at least one, probably two off seasons away from having a truly competitive midfield. By that time N Jones and Vince will be close to 30 and we'll need to start thinking about their successors too.

Succession planning is mandatory regardless of where on the "premiership window ladder" a team stands.

Just noticed this in Robbo's 'likes, dislikes':

2. Patrick Dangerfield: Absolutely think hes gone, although the Crows remain confident. Still, think its the Cats for him, although the Demons talk wont go away. Anyhow, the guy gives his all and his performance against Richmond was one of his best.

From his on screen demeanor and behavior, I would probably rate Robbo's "likes" as beer, wine, spirits, and his "dislikes" as consistency and impartiality.

As much as it pains me, Toumpas has to be in the firing line for trade this year if we can get the currency in return. 3 years of development and still seems incapable of remaining calm under pressure (which is, ultimately, a huge factor in building premiership standard sides).

I'd so desperately love to be proven wrong though. Please work some miracles, McCartney.

I must say I agree - would love to be proven wrong but time is surely running out. Edited by monoccular

I'm not sure what you mean by a "Roos-type recruit" but I'm not convinced there's a lot of value in recruiting players who can't get games at their current clubs. None of Riley, Michie or Newton have set the world on fire. Surely the players we get should be ahead of the ones we've tried over and over again. If Bail and Matt Jones are getting games ahead of these players, were they worth selecting in the first place?

Youre right, Newton, Riley and Michie have disappointed but at least we tried. Last week we ran out with Grimes/Michie/Jones, were we effectively 3 men down? A true sign that this club has turned the corner will be if it offloads Toumpas at the end of the year. We employed McCartney to develop players and in conjunction with Goodwin make the tough calls on players. If Toumpas doesn't possess the basics now move him on before it's too late. No more Grimes's disposal is coming good after 6 years only to butcher it again the following week. The Hawks are playing a kid by the name of Daniel Howe over the weekend. He's getting a game over Hartung, Litherland, Schoenmakers and others. They don't wait until they're playing the Brisbane Lions, they are playing him against an inform Geelong. I hope he's not sub. They are going to see if he can perform against quality. I would much rather offload as much dead wood as we can and bring in another batch of players in the hope we unearth someone or find the next VB. There's enough spots on the list to justify one or two a year, on two year contracts. Keep rotating them through, offer them minimum contracts.

ash could you put in a comma or fullstop...not being pedantic just trying to work out the deal.

Is that a straight swap of Tomlinson for Howe or

Tomlinson for our 2nd round pick...I would do this in a heartbeat, especially as it looks like Howe is staying!

currently watching the swans vs pies...Would Sam Reid from the Swans be a good target? He is 196cm. He could complement Hogan

Dawes and Pedersen are better than Reid.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
