I understand the angst, but it is only Round 3 and we're 1-1. I'd have taken that three weeks ago.

We're also going to a ground where we have recently performed well.

Adelaide do look good, no doubt, but Round 1 they played an absolutely insipid North team. Round 2 they played a very ordinary Collingwood side. They are yet to show they are the real deal against a QUALITY opponent.

It's a tough ask but if we can match their pressure, we'll be in the game.

That first line is spot on P-man. How many of us out there were predicting we wouldn't win our first 7-8 matches for the year? Instead we have come out and played 6 terrific quarters - it's just a shame the other 2 were very, very poor.

I think we will bounce back from that this week and show it was an aberration - I'm not suggesting we'll win but, as you say, we have a very good recent record at the ground and I'm banking on the players coming out and making amends for the capitulation last weekend.

Life choices, deluded and happy or negative and Clarked. I'm with you Ernie I would have taken 1-1 at the start of the season, next 2 -1 I think W-L others L-W

Miller would have been just the player Roosy would take & mold into a beaut player.

Ironic really...Millers back

Roosey still gets a crack at molding him.... as a coach instead.

So our players are expected to push through self doubt? They are still humans with feelings and emotions like everyone else. How long will it take us to believe, when they start playing consistently, that it's for real and the past has finally gone?

No not at all. They didn't do what they were supopsed to do. When they do like against GC they can compete well.

So this would be about saying. You stuffed up last week because you didn't follow the plan. You have another chance to prove you can follow the plan otherwise there will be scalps.

Unchanged side.

Yeah but its all about context. You might also have accepted two hard-fought 2pt losses. Or a ten goal win with a 1 goal loss.

What we saw was a scary reminder of our past. Maybe its not our past. Maybe its our now. If it is then that is scary. We all hope we have changed but we have to banish those pizz poor performances.

Oh no, i think Scott Thompson is coming back for this week after dominating in the VFL

Good a slow midfielder hopefully in replace of B smith ;). Put Chunk on him and hopefully he gets a lot of the ball :)

It could just be normalisation, though.

And we haven't actually played 6 good quarters.

The first quarter in the Gold Coast game was very average. If we played a top side it would have been a 5-6 goal deficit in their favour. The second quarter we dominated them. In the third and fourth we traded goals, including three patches where the Suns went on 2-4 goal runs.

Against GWS, we played one good quarter. They smashed us in the second but simply couldn't capitalise. We were efficient going forward but were ultimately smashed around the ground.

That equates to three good quarters of football, even though we've won 6 of 8, and I'd argue that the two quarters on Saturday almost completely devalue the progress made in the preceding 6 quarters, I don't care what Roos says. It was as terrible a lack of effort as I've ever seen, matched only 2 or 3 times in my 25 years watching this club.

I can handle tough losses. The Saints had a tough loss against the Giants last week. The Bombers had a tough loss against the Swans. Port a tough loss to Freo. But our problem is that we either buckle monumentally at crucial stages, or simply give up too soon to make any chance of a comeback impossible. It's like there's a certain point where I'm just certain that the team will lose. Whether that's in the first quarter or with 5 minutes left in a close game. There's just something to is so damn evident that the team will lose. The Brisbane game at Etihad last year was an example. Once they kicked the first goal to get cut our lead to a goal, I just knew we'd lose. You could smell it a mile away. That's no way to watch football!

I *hope* we will bounce back this week with a good performance.

I am so sick of *hoping* for a good performance. I want to be *CONFIDENT* that I'll see a good performance. But I'm not confident. I'm confident I'll be let down. But I'm hopeful I won't be.

That's no way to support football. This club is an indictment on this great game sometimes, and it has been for many years.

I would actually rate quarters where we're challenged but are able to hold sway as excellent quarters. It's a sign of potential developed resilience, unfortunately I have to add the work potential because when we were challenged v GWS we folded like a pack of cards. From what I saw of the first quarter v GC we were actually in control for most of it but just couldn't put it on the board.

It's hard to face up to praha, but I reckon you're on the money. When GWS hit the front on Saturday I was as confident as one could be that we were going to get hammered from that point on. Our ability to capitulate is unequalled, and depressingly predictable. Objectively, it's quite staggering how fragile we are, and it makes supporting this team like a cruel joke. I have no idea when it will end, but this season so far tells me it's not even in sight. I compare it to the Hawthorn v Essendon game, where at no point until the siren went did I think the Hawks would lose. They're as predictable in the opposite way.

That resilience you speak of is rendered meaningless by the last 3 quarters on Saturday, and that St. Kilda comfortably beat GCS at home. Resilience against what then? A team that are currently worse than the two worst teams from last year.

Is this founded or just speculation? Genuine question. He seems like he has a bit of attitude, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing and I thought he was one of only a handful who tried to chase when they got on top, and he was dangerous in the first half.

Just my opinion and observation, when I speak about attitude I am not talking about his cockiness, that I like. He has genuine speed and yes he did put some chases on but if you watch Kent he gets caught flat footed and ball watching when he doesn't have the ball. He does not track or have his direct opponent within arms length when they have the ball. He decides to chase when (IMO) it is to late and it is because he wasn't close enough or tracking his opponent in the first place. He has speed and it looks like he is really putting in the hard yards but that again IMO is only because he wasn't doing the team thing in the first place.

Some refer to it as cheating and not running both ways, and Kent is not Robinson Crusoe in the league for doing this but you can not get away with it in our side. Said it many times he can be anything, the speed and acceleration he has will enable him to track closely enough with his opponent when we are not in possession to prevent them being an outlet, but it will also enable him to break quickly and gain enough space to provide an option in a turnover situation

I did add the word "potential". Being challenged when the momentum shifts against ANY team is a step in the right direction, it's not going to happen every week, it certainly didn't happen last week, but it's something we can go forward with. Last year we would be 0-2 right now, this year we're 1-1.

I can't disagree with any of that.

But looking at this week's match, there are logical reasons to be optimistic. That optimism may get shattered quickly, but it's still there. Hell, even Dawes had his best game ever for the club in this fixture last year.

I just cannot see how that loss wouldn't seriously hurt them as professional athletes, especially the new guys. 14 goals ffs. They were humiliated. Has it gotten to a stage where humiliation is run of the mill?

I'm expecting a strong response and I'll be absolutely filthy if there isn't one.

That's the thing P-man, we've expected them to play for professional/club/personal/whatever pride for years, and years. Have we ever had it? So for me, humiliation, or capitulation, IS run of the mill. I hope against hope that we TRULY see the worm turning, I mean really a change in this club's game day expectations. There are no signs of real change this season.

this season has shown some very disappointing and disturbing attitudes.

only 2 games in and already one eye's peeled to the eos circus.

quite frankly the players talk shlt. they all say rah rah...lets go boys...all for one yeehah...then lay down like larry the lamb ffs

line them up and I'll happily tell it to their faces btw. Only about half a dozen deserve to escape that

We've got some of the best in the business ( supposedly ) in charge...

what do we get ...same ol same ol

granted first win in rnd 1 for god knows how long...but really...thats it then put the cue away ?? seriously ??

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
