Even this is untrue. The only rider that could even begin to be applied to was Christophe Bassons - in reality, the whole peloton wanted him out, and told him as much. Armstrong was just one of many, and relayed the message on that famous TDF stage where the whole peloton decided to ride slowly - but not tell Bassons. Bassons' biggest problems/issues were from within his own team, where the pressure on him to juice up, shut up or ship out became too much.

Not wanting to sidetrack this thread, but the Armstrong/Hird comparisons are just spurious, and even moreso when they're based on untruths. Armstrong was a kid from a trailer park who grew up with a chip on his shoulder to become a fighter and at times a thug and bully. But he wouldn't be the first elite sportsman to display those characteristics.

Much as I dislike Hird and his behaviour through all this, I would say he was just pushing the envelope, while not actually trying all that hard to make sure things were above board. At another club, at another time, where he wasn't given free reign because he was seen as the new messiah, the outcome would have been different. On the other hand, every cyclist in the 90's who doped knew exactly what they were doing and that it was illegal.

Hird is a cheat: Hird and Dr Ageless go back to the early 90s when James was recieving "dietary" advice ie doping. Hird is an abuser: harming the reputation, careers and possibly the health of 34 people in his "team". Hird is a bully: using expensive PR and legal tactics to attack those who dare criticise him. Hird is a Psychopath: self centered, unable to show remorse, blames everybody but himself, no concience, win at all costs attitude ETC. The only difference between Hird and Armstrong is the amount of sports geography that they sullied, apart from that I would say they are brothers in arms!

Well all the speculation will play out over the next 12 months or so. We will see who is right. Your self righteous indignation will be revealed for what it is, as will your un-erring defence of the behaviour of the Hirds and Little in the face of overwhelming evidence against them.

Fortunately there is a process in place which will ensure truth will out. I wonder if we will see any recant from you when the sentences are eventually handed down. Somehow I think not.

I'm pretty sure I posted some time ago that I heard from a senior AFL employee last December that the payout figure Hird negotiated when he signed on was $6 mil.

i know you are only passing on what you heard but $6M seems absolutely irresponsible and hints that hird must be holding something over essendon

if hird is eventually sacked over "illegalities" i wonder if his payout would stand up

if he was paid out $6M the ensuing shytefest would be something to behold and bring the total essendon cost to an enormous figure

Well to be more specific, I think the Hird court case will be tossed out within two weeks, and he may well be forced to resign as a result - this time at last by Essendon.

The findings from the AFL Tribunal will I think be handed down within a month of the season starting, and l am expecting them to be favorable to the players which will allow them to continue playing, with probably several of the coaches including Hird receiving longish sentences (maybe a couple of years each). This will be unacceptable to ASADA who will appeal it, l assume through the AFL appeal mechanisms. They will then probably confirm the AFL Tribunal findings, but this could take another month, although as it is in the control of the AFL they clearly have an interest in accelerating the process.

WADA will then step in and appeal this to CAS which may take as long as a further four or five months which will get us to the end of the season. CAS will l suspect impose at least two year bans on the players (dated from the CAS hearing as that will be the first time they will actually be banned from playing IMHO), and Hird will, like Armstrong, get a life ban from all sports. That will be the end of the formal sports judiciary process as CAS's word is final on these matters, and we will know the formal outcome therefore by the end of 2015.

However, that certainly will not be the end of the consequences. I expect all the players (and possibly their parents as well as Essendon have been regularly briefing them over these last three years saying there is nothing to worry about) rubbed out will sue the AFL, Essendon, and Hird in the courts, and they will win but it could take a further two years. No doubt given the Hirds' personalities there will be appeal upon appeal going right to the High Court as each court finds against him and Tania, and that could go on for years. Hird of course in this process will counter sue the AFL - God knows how long that will take, but in this process it will probably send the current EFC entity to the wall, and the brand will be sold by the liquidators into a new entity.

Then there is Workcover.........

I would be amazed if they paid him a cent if he were fired. Surely they have a clause in the contract which allows them to fire him for nothing on the grounds of incompetence and dishonesty? But then again, they are Essendon!

FMD $6 mill!!! If true, who the hell at bomberland was stupid enough to agree to this? The board have a lot to answer for. Surely Hird has collected a stack load of 'goat pictures' of various people at EFC to get this sort of deal.

Possibly. Depends on what they say, and whether he appeals. Given past proclivities, they probably will. Either way, I think Essendon will at last bite the bullet and fire him (assuming the case is lost which all my legal contacts say it will be). The only caveat i would put on that is that we have been here before when Hird was as good as fired by the board and clearly he had something over them or someone which he used to be reinstated (how many other business leaders would use blackmail to stay in office - it is classic sociopathic behavior). There MUST be something he has on them, but eventually the evidence will be overwhelming (dare i say it a bit like our current PM - they are both embarrassments who shouldn't be in the offices they hold). Roll on Malcolm Turnbull!
