Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off

I feel really uneasy about this, simply because Jack has been a beacon of loyalty through some really rough times. He seems like a cracking bloke. However, from a list management point of view I can see the angle, especially if they are in talks with a third party about potentially packaging 3 + 12. Jack's performances have been largely underwhelming considering the hype that was surrounding him as an U/18. Until we know the complete picture I will reserve my judgement...

If you're trying to say since he had a "good" year, it would be 3 years (66 games).

Although his ability to impact games was certainly affected, the perception that he went from hero to zero is a bit misplaced- his average disposals per game decreased by less than 3 from 2011 to 2012.

FWIW, maybe Danger has never forgiven Trenners, and the trade is a condition of him joining the Demons.

It's worth nothing. It was a tackle.

I was thinking there must be something in the pipeline.... until i read that they approached us.... thats very different to the other way around.

I think I will wait for the pie to be cooked before I taste it, but clearly something is cooking.

We really do have a one paced midfield and this is something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible if we are going to entertain the possibility of finals.

And nowhere in anyone's wildest imagination outside of parochial Melbourne supporters is Jack Trengove worth ND12 on his own.

Almost undoubtedly a pick 12 + pick 3 package deal brewing. We wouldn't be tossing out our former captain and second rounder for an 18 year old at pick 12.

A club has come back to us and said, "pick 3 and 23 ain't enough... we need it with another first rounder."

Melbourne have stuffed a lot of drafts but every team would have taken Trengove and Scully at picks 1 and 2.

Martin's stocks rose late, Scully was pretty much guaranteed to be one, other teams would have taken Martin at 2.

Sewell and Mitchell say hi.

You are comparing Sewell & Mitchell to Trengove?

Runs on the board mate.....Ever thought that his foot just may not be up to the Game Style Roos knows we need to get to.....?

Sewell and Mitchell say hi.

So does Selwood. They're all able to make an impact despite their lack of pace, not because they're slow. Trenners best work has been half-forward marks, not much else.

Trengove hasn't played for a year, and had a disappointing season the one before. His value isn't as high as many here would like to think.

True, but you don't sell low.

3 for 12 is worth more than Beams though. There's no player crawling out of the woodwork for that pick I'm nearly certain. Unless it's Dangerfield.

3 and 12 for pick 1? Surely we wouldn't?

This is Richmond being opportunistic and Melbourne having a good long think about it. Pick 12 does represent a bigger chance of finding a very good player (Dangerfield, Talia, Frawley, Nath Jones around this mark) than pick 23 (even if Fyfe was around this mark).

Draft pick value tapers in the top 5, then goes 6-15, then 15-40. So it's a handy jump.

This trade is saying that Trengove is no better than Toumpas, Michie, Riley, Matt Jones etc. It's saying he was no loss this year and isn't certain to be part of the future. That's not a call I'd make but with all the available info maybe it can be made.

According to article on AFL its coming from Richmond not us:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-10/trengove-linked-to-tigers?utm_medium=RSS

If you want to keep a player then you shut it down as soon as the opposition approaches and don't even mention it to the player in question. We've mentioned it to Trengove. We must want pick 12 for a reason to float the prospect of leaving to Trengove. No other reason to upset a player unnecessarily.

Sewell and Mitchell say hi.

Sewell and Mitchell have been consistently elite not long since they first started and rarely dropped off. Mitchell may be slow but not Trengove slow and arguably the best and quickest decision maker in the game and a proven leader. Trengove has been stuttering the last three seasons for various reasons.

An ex Melb player (who will remain unnamed) just said Dees are looking to build for the future & has heard the following.

Saints are taking McCartin.

Dees will take Petracca, Brayshaw & Lever - banking that he'll still be there due to his injuries.

I wont believe anything until I see it. But it wont be Danger.

"...The Demons are aware he is a popular and loyal figure and remained coy about whether the deal would eventuate..." "We said after our last game to our playing list that we would look at all avenues to improve our list. Richmond came to us with a potential deal, Jack is aware of this and all parties will now take some time to consider our options," a Melbourne spokeperson said.

So does this mean there is no super deal brewing?

There is some hope he might not go... Back to my glass of red...

Martin's stocks rose late, Scully was pretty much guaranteed to be one, other teams would have taken Martin at 2.

And regretted it when he got mixed up in substances, hung out with criminals, turned up out of shape and injured to training, flashed the handcuffs sign, got tribal tattoos on his neck. Wouldn't mind Martin but he nearly fell to pieces at Richmond. He would've been even worse at Melbourne.

Morabito, that wouldn't have ended well. Cunnington, well I guess you'd take his steady production. Rohan, you'd hate his production for the talent. As usual, Melbourne down the bottom when the top picks stink!

Trengove might not be only ex-high Dees draft pick we hear about in next few days. Melbourne brass have plenty of work ahead #AFLTrades

Whats going on down the club??

im not sure how i feel about this. I mean the guy hasnt played like a pick 2 and has been injured and we arent sure if we will ever see his potential but Id hate to see him in a richmond jumper next year. It sounds like he doesnt want to go. If othewr things are happening I wonder if watts is being shopped around as well.

Roosy did say every player is tradeable.

gosh just when we were talking today about our club being steady. Maybe we spoke to soon.

If we are shipping Watts or Toumpas then we are preparing for a party.

Everyone is tradeable!

If this is going to happen. There is definitely something big in the pipeline for us. I'm going to throw it out there and say we are looking at gaining 2 Mids and a KP. Especially with Trengove out.

I suspect if the Giants land Griffin and have too give up there Pick 4 and possibly more. They will want to trade back into Round 1 calcations. I'm thinking Pick 3 & 12 may just get us Sheil, Frost & Pick 19/or another Mid (eg.Whiley).

We are 99% definitely looking too trade Pick 3 & 12.

Maybe, Dangerfield is possible and we just have too satisfy the trade.

I cannot see us trading both Picks 2 & 3. Brayshaw is a 99% lock I would think!

I'd be happy if we did this...even though I greatly respect Trenners and he trys his heart out..but....

Going to be honest here..

Trenners hasn't been an outstanding player for us IMO ....Dom has done more in 12 months at the Demons than Trenners in how many years.....?

We need to live in the land of reality here with Trenners folks. ....there will be something else in the works besides just gaining ground in the draft....Roosy is a Master...remember that..he knows what it takes to reach the top...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
