WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JEFF GARLETT

Realistically you need to include every single player drafted from 61 onwards, just because a player is taken at that exact number doesn't mean much.

Just had a look at further drafts, and there was a few gems, Stokes and Riscihtelli, but honestly Stokes is on the same level as Garlett, but it's still a great deal for us.

Bump deserved. Must get new glasses. I couldn't find any mention of him. Sorry folks for starting up 'new' topic. I loved the highlights though of Garlett particularly his tackling. Very Davey like. Now where is my wheelchair and hot water bottle?

The play at 0:51 reminds me a lot of a play that won The Wizard goal of the year a few years back.

I'm very very happy to have Jeffy at the club.

Garlett is currently paying $3.00 to lead Melbourne in goal kicking. Given his history and our supreme lack of goal kickers this sounds reasonable.

Hogan won the goal kicking and best and fairest at Casey in his first year as a 17 year old. I wouldn't be betting too much on Garlett.

Watching the first goal in that package, I couldn't fail to notice how weak Lumumba's attack on Gartlett was. No pressure. Gave him loads of time to steady. Oh nooooooooo!

Of course, you realise if you were looking at the same clip on the WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - HERETIER LUMUMBA page, you'd be able to argue how clever Heretier was not to over-commit and he was just unlucky that Garlett kicked a goal from an impossible angle.

I suspect that Garlett along with Kent and Kennedy-Harris will rotate from deep forward to high forward to midfield.

Whats Garlett's field kicking and creative talents like through the midfield?

he has good skills no doubt but his slight frame doesn't allow him to hunt the ball like others do. he tends to 'strike' and play the dangerous outside runner game, rather than grind away. Despite a poor year he has plenty of good seasons backed up before that.

Roos can see we are so slow and has brought in 3 players in Lumumba, Garlett and Frost who have plenty of line breaking speed. all could potentially start round one.

I'd go so far as to say that all should start round one, with the exception maybe of Frost.

I will go further and say that Frost will start Round one also [unless you think Garland, Terlich & Grimes are all better options]?

Garland has played some very good football for the red and blue. He had a bad season this year coming back from injury and without a pre-season. I hope Frost proves to be a great pick-up but there is no way he gets a spot ahead of Garland round 1. And whilst Grimes probably hasn't reached the same heights as Garland he is our co-captain and there is no way Frost gets a spot ahead of him round 1 either.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
