The reason Adelaide would match the offer would be to receive better compensation from Geelong than they would from the AFL if they simply let him walk. If they didn't match, the highest compensation pick they could possibly get would be 13th, and that's assuming no priority picks to Brisbane or Carlton, as well as no top band compensation for any clubs below them on the ladder. It's much more likely that they would receive a pick ~16th for him, which is far less than they would be able to get if they trade for him. I'm certain that Geelong will part with their first round pick (higher than 16) for Danger, and it's possible that the Crows may be able to get even more out of them.

End scenario: Danger reaches the Cats; Adelaide receives a better deal from Cats than they would by accepting the AFL's free agency compensation.

What can the Cats give that will be more than ND13?

Future pick?

yup. Two first round picks

Pray Adelaide matches the offer... it will be great for them and for the league.

If Adelaide matches, the PFA is going to have a fit...

Geelong's first round pick will be around ND9 so that might be the 'compromise'...

Geelong isn't going to give two first rounders when they could have had him for nothing...

They will kick up a stink.

It will be wonderful - I hope Adelaide matches...

They have no right to have a fit. It's exactly how the system they helped create was designed to work.

Gives clubs a chance to keep or get better compensated for their best players. I think Adelaide should definitely match the offer.

Adelaide has every right to match, Its the rules. Geelong will have a sook behind closed doors cos they weren't gifted a superstar like they would have thought would happen, but they will have no choice other than to get a trade done. Lets hope they have to pay through the nose.

Adelaide should match just to set a trend that players can't just walk via RFA like they have been.

Want to leave two years early and choose your club... Um... No.

Oh Geelong, you want to trade now... Um... No.

That five year deal Paddy, we will match that, see you at pre season training.

Cheerio.

When Motlop asked to go to Adelaide, they were eyeing off a Motlop for Danger trade if this were to eventuate.

Danger to Geelong been confirmed to me FYI.

Geelong supporters on Bigfooty are hilarious. Such a sense of entitlement. I hope the Crows match the offer.

According to Stuart Fox, the deal with Geelong was signed months ago. Laughable that anyone would even think he was coming to Dees. The Hawks never made an enquiry, in fact, never even contemplated Dangerfield.

well it might have been agreed verbally but to sign a contract would violate afl rules so i doubt it

It's pretty ridiculous, free agency was brought in for players who are push into early retirement to give them a chance to play on at another club.....

Not sure if serious?

It was brought in to be a token gesture to look like the AFL weren't engaging in restriction of trade, so the players' union didn't kick up a stink.

It will be exceptionally rare for Clubs to match offers for several reasons particularly if that player has provided great service eg Judd & Dangerfield because they (a) don't want a player in their environment that doesn't want to be there and (b) they don't want to risk a court case.

You must also remember that when a Club goes to a player who is out of Contract and says we are delisting you, the Player can't say no, I'm staying.

Cheers.

Or rather: "we would be exceptionally [censored] off if he were not to come now."

So my caveat is that it's not set in stone because "contracts can't be signed until the trade/FA period."

Yes but Crows owe it to their members to get the best deal.

If they let him go they get pick after their first pick.

If they match offers, they trade him for say Geelong's higher first pick and maybe another pick or player or combination.

What would you do if you were the Crows?

He still gets to the Cats.

WTF........Giansiracusa just said he thinks Melbourne might still be a chance for Dangerfield on game day.

He said there were 1.5 million reasons

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
