Is that a massive typo? Nathan Jones is one of only a handful of players to have been nominated twice.

Haha, nah. Just geeing up all the folks around here who think we've been robbed yet again, this time AA non-selection (seriously wgaf).

Second sentence was more on topic though!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if a Melbourne player has ever won it?

Rivers is the only Melbourne player to have won. Interestingly, Gysberts and Blease are also among the few to have been nominated twice (apologies in advance if this info causes a "woeful drafting, screw Barry Prendergast" thread derailment).

He got 1 vote better then Tyson and Salem in their respective years combined got in the rising star.

You're a clever one aren't you.. Tyson played 10 games in his first year.. makes it a bit tough doesn't it. He played just 3 games in 2013. He is only really one year ahead of Kelly

Supercoach average weekly score rankings 2014:

Tyson - 76th - career games 35

Kelly - 316th - career games 18

let's see if Kelly moves up 240 spots next year

but yeah boo hoo Melbourne.. Prendergast boo hoo waa waa NikNat etc

Thought this thread was about the rising star, not supercoach. Nethertheless how did Lewis Taylor fare against Salem in supercoach?

you're a bit dull aren't you. We didn't trade Kelly for Salem, Salem is basically a freebie isn't he, particularly since Tyson is far better than Kelly anyway

keep grinding your axe though, keep listening to the media for your opinions

I dont see where I said we traded Kelly for Salem but congratulations for putting words in my mouth. Also if you think giving up a 2nd rounder which could have drafted the rising star winner for Salem is nothing then it would seem you are the dull one.

No team would give up a 1st rounder as a freebie but keep on thinking that if it makes you feel better.

Reality is we could've drafted both Bontempelli and Lewis who have both made an impact and many seem to still be looking at the trade through MFC goggles.

Thanks.

If you keep watching football & maybe learn something, you might be correct about something one day too.

Don't give up hope!

Let us know your pick for the Brownlow so we can get on it tomorrow please Machsy. You've watched so much footy I would imagine your next post could allow us to keep Demonland afloat for all time. Be a sport.

It's official Curry & Beer, you are a know nothing [censored]. Please understand it wasn't a 2 for 1 deal. It was essentially 2 & 20 for Tyson & Salem.

We could've used those picks for Kelly/Bontompelli & Lewis Taylor for example. All I can say is Salem would want to improve his intensity & output before we claim it as draft win.

Taylor should've went top ten.

I thought both Salem and Taylor were the pick of the bunch.

We should've used our Sylvia compo on Taylor IMO.

That's a good discussion point. Vince has been good for us and a real step up from Silvia but would we have been better off going to the draft and picking up a really good kid like Taylor.

It's a discussion we need to be considerate of this year, we have missed some good picks in the teens early 20's over the last few years and at the moment we are in the red on these.

I'm a great admirer of Machsy as you know.

You're about as sharp as an eraser RTG, but my pick for the brownlow is Ablett.

Shockingly unoriginal, but still should win it.

pick 20 is useless to us, have a look at what we have done with picks around that area the last 10 years: absolute zilch

but fools like yourself always go 'hey look at this one good kid that a proper club developed, that could have been us!' yeah but it wouldn't have been would it

FFS we have had picks Watts, Scully, Trengove, Sylvia, Toumpas, Morton and McLean all in the top 5 of the draft and it has done NOTHING for us

using a pick to secure a proven talent in Tyson was a masterstroke, and I am sick to death of simpletons like yourself being obsessed with some kid we didnt get who is at another club

Couldve had both Bontempelli and Taylor. 77 votes of immediate impact between them.

Embarrassed to say I've never heard of him. Have mostly been inside a cocoon this year, and the only Brisbane game I saw was when we played them.

I had to Google him.

He's obviously a good player, but I'm not losing any sleep over him not being at Melbourne.

Tell that to Nath Jones or Dom Tyson who without Vince providing the 3rd competent midfield option would've really worn a lot of attention.

Agree it's something to keep in mind for this years trade period that every draft pick represents an opportunity for a really good player who's likely to stay around for a long time. But I don't think you can say Vince was a bad call.

I guess all you can do is look at our midfield now as say - Jones, Tyson, Vince, Cross (1 year max?), Viney then the more speculative - Trengove, Toumpas, Watts, Riley, Michie, Matt Jones etc and say what's the priority. Is it getting ready to go guys to support the top line mids or is it getting kids who can build a sustainable unit along with Tyson and Viney.

Last year the surety of Vince was too important. This year we have a more stable base to work with.

I think we had to get Vince but it was at a cost more than just Silvia. As I say a good discussion point and very relevant to this year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
