Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He is just a bit rushed in everything he does. Has missed a lot of football and had no preaseason.

If the Footy Gods are kind and he has a full preaseason, I suspect his disposal will improve significantly. He used the ball quite well until injured last year.

Preseason - No

Established AFL player with 50-70 games - No

Continuity in the team - No

Playing in a competitive team - Mostly No

Until at least some of those things are turned to yes it's a bit hard to judge. If he had clean skills he wouldn't have been available for us to poach from Adelaide. He wont ever take a backwards step on the field. That's a start.

A player's skill is not measured by kicking skills alone, or even disposal kills in total, including handballs. If he were to meet the expectations of D'Landers, Riley would need to be a whole lot better in disposals, and would have eyes in the back of his head.

On the other hand, several posters have said that we shouldn't judge Riley until he has had a clear and uninterrupted pre-season, I don't know if a clear pre-season will make much of a difference, because I don't think that "skills" in the traditional sense of the word are his core contribution to the team.

To me, Riley is reminiscent of a young Nathan Jones. He gets in and under, often pulls out the ball from a pack, has some great evasive skills (far under rated until you see them in action), and dishes the ball off to nearby team mates.

Huge heart, reminds me of Simon Godfrey.

Harsh. Too harsh.

Not a troll at all. You really think missing a target and coughing up a goal in the manner he did is acceptable AFL standard skill level? Truly? I said that I like his attack, but I don't know why we rushed to sign him.

Wasn't he only on a one year contract? Give him a fair go. He's no Gillies.

Advice for anyone with criticism of Riley.

Go home, snap your leg in half, and see how [censored] well you can kick a football in 8 or so months.

If that option doesn't sound appealing, shut the [censored] up!

ok I've done it. Have you got any plaster of Paris?

Nothing wrong with a Pig Dog.

Tough never gives up until he wins.

Just the attitude about 20 other players need.

The kicking will come.

Getting the ball is the main objective . He has that in spades.

YTo me, Riley is reminiscent of a young Nathan Jones. He gets in and under, often pulls out the ball from a pack, has some great evasive skills (far under rated until you see them in action), and dishes the ball off to nearby team mates.

At the beginning of his career, Jones was constantly criticised for his disposal skills. He could certainly get the ball but often coughed it up with an errant kick or handball, such skill errors have largely been eradicated from his game.

Riley is being given time by the club to find his feet at this level and (we hope) contribute to to the future of the club.

Jones said that it took him till he reached 100 games for everything to "click" into place, Riley certainly has less time than that, but given his apparent desperate attitude he certainty gives one the strong impression that he wants to succeed.

The club chased him so obviously they saw potential.

Another 15 to 20 games played after a full pre-season should tell!

Personally I don't see too much difference between himself and McKenzie. Riley seems to be able to extract the ball more effectively whereas Jordie plays a more negating tagged role.

They just seem to have a very similar bag of tricks combined with ordinary skills. I hope Riley's disposal improves concurrent with his fitness. I do like his attack though.

homophobia is a state of mind, last time i looked there were no thought laws in this country

i think you meant homosexual discrimination which is quite different to homophobia

Natural ball winner in close, good overhead, tackles hard and can drift into some good attacking positions.

Some of his kicking last night was poor but generally his kicking is of a reasonable standard.

Came to the club as a 22 year old veteran of 11 games coming back from a broken leg.

Has demonstrated enough to suggest that with a full pre season he should fitter than this year and have improved in the areas he needs to work on.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
