GOODBYE MITCH CLARK

Recommended Posts

Haha but we would be taking some sort of risk as would they. So its an even platform, therefore who is the most valuable and lets take the trade from there.

Clarke? Marty Clarke?

I fail to see how the first two have anything to do with the AFL. We got the pick we deserved for Sylvia and nothing more. Vince was a win but we could have easily traded that pick for a spud or used it on a spud in the draft. We will also get the fair compensation for Chip, a bloke with 7-8 years of footy left in the peak of his career. However he is just another player free to leave, and the AFL's rules didn't even allow him to be restricted.

Redleg makes valid points about the system.

I believe he wasn't in our highest paid players because we front loaded his contract so that we would have plenty of money left in the tim when our prime draft picks were demanding more money!!!!!

So its our fault really that Frawley is able to leave....

Has Lumumba really got issues???

Or does he just have different beliefs to most other people?

Just a thought.....

In Australia you are considered to have issues if you have different beliefs to the herd, sorry, most other people.

One of the most commonly identified issues is Political Correctness syndrome. It's a strange syndrome as it a label put on people with minority views by people with majority views who think they are in fact part of an harassed minority being cowed by the PC majority. Strange.

I couldn't understand the number thing that Schwab seemed to have.

The big fuss with Mitch and Jimmy, I mean he only met him for a minute and then bang goes the number and the backstory that went with it. All total spin.

Scully 31, then Grimes 31. I hope they retire 31 & 11 for a while then maybe sneak the numbers back in when no one is looking.

Nathan Jones seems to have thrived.

But when we front loaded his contract, FA did not exist.

However you are right though, we should have foreseen that the AFL would create a new rule, where we would be the hardest hit in terms of numbers of players leaving any club.

I believe the number will be 5 when Chip goes, the GWS bloke, Rivers, Moloney, Sylvia and Chip.

It could actually be 6 if you include MC and the fact that he will dictate his departure..

And of course MC leaving is all our fault as well.

That's funny. Particularly liked this bit:

'Uncomfortable with the threat this presented to their perceived right to insult people they don’t care about, the term was seized on by right-wing commentators, and redeployed as a catch-all pejorative phrase to deride the entire spectrum of Progressive thought. They won, and over the years, the addendum ‘gone mad’ emerged, asserting that much like Ken Bruce, political correctness had gone batshit crazy, and become a slavering, rabid, totalitarian Soviet bear, hurtling towards the horizon, wild-eyed and hungry, looking to devour our Freedoms and Way Of Life.'

Leaving the political correctness matter aside as it gets up my skirt on occasion also.

Lumumba seems to be on the outer at Collingwood does he not? Personally I couldn't give a tuppeny about his beliefs, they are his, but it looks like its upset a few at Collingwood , they it also seems, would like the problem to go away and here is a possible solution.

My concern simply is, that a straight swap for Clark IMO is unders.

Was there a big press conference when Nathan got number 2 'Redleg'?

I don't remember.

Either do I, but I think the relevant point was, it was the number, not a press conference. The press conference comes and goes, but the number is there all the time.

No, my point was really more about the big fuss made of the number at the time. I just thought the whole thing was pretty dumb, a player at the club for a minute and handed the number 11.

31 had a chequered history as well, Templeton was one I remember then Scully, Grimes should never have agreed to change his over. Just let the players make their own history.

If the clubs environment and everything that came with it did indeed impact on Clarks health to the extent that it has been reported, and now the clubs environment is a trigger for his illness, then I understand if he couldn't return to melbourne.

It would be painful to see him at another club, especially collingwood, however if that is the honest situation then i can accept that, his options shouldn't be limited because of that.

However if particular areas of that are not accurate, then that point of view changes dramatically lol.

maybe unders if you just look at potential

could equally be seen as overs if you factor in risk

me, i'm more a pragmatist than a dreamer....let it happen

Sorry, as much as I loved Jimmy (like any Dees supporter), I am really getting tired of this line being trotted out. I'm sure MC did not ask for Jimmy's #11 and I'm sure he felt genuinely honoured to be given that number, but to say that somehow makes him beholden to Jimmy and that he is in some way or other besmirching Jimmy's memory is ridiculous. Sure have a go at him for being greedy, for being dishonest, for turning his back on his supporters and admirers... but to somehow tie this in with Jimmy?...

On reflection - it says more about the club than it does about the players - we have given 31 to Phil Carmen, Templeton, Scully and now Grimes. We made a large display in giving no 11 to Mitch. These numbers do have a history and more cache than other numbers and the club has provided theatre around giving these numbers to certain players. No player since RDB has added any shine to the number 31 and the first person to wear no 11 (and there was great ceremony involved in giving that number) has also not added to its value. I think the club should reflect on this and at the end of Grimes run retire the numbers and not give it to a savior player the minute he arrives at the club ( Scully/Trengove/ Clark)

If we are to get a pick for Clark from the AFL - that is draft assistance, that is a handout.

And we won't if we 'deal' with any club.

We should be able to deal Clark and get our draft assistance as well, but again, the rules are mere suggestions to the AFL...

He'd be the most unpopular man in Australia

I think he already is! If he REALLY suffered from depression wait until next year!

I'm absolutely filthy on clark.. He COULD be the absolute scum of the earth (worse than scully) BUT I have this feeling we don't want him. I honestly believe that behind the scenes roos & co are more hell bent on the fact we could use this to our advantage in the PP plea. Maybe mitch and the club have agreed to part ways and both get what they want. I wouldn't be suprised if we delist him and he walks to collingwood as a free agent. A few weeks back when mark Evans said the PP was not based on on-field performance rather "tradgeic" circumstance, he may well have been planting the seed for this situation. I highly doubt roos/Jackson would be letting clark walk out the door ... If not than mitch is an absolute dog and I wish nothing but the worst for him because it looks like he's played us quiet the fools

Yes, trust in PJ and PR. They know what they are doing.

My love and hate knows no bounds for this man.

As someone else posted......too murky now. Get the club the best deal, Roosy.

Me too! A good friend of mine hasd used a word starting with "C" 3 times to describe his decision. And the word wasn't "country"

BxshQLxCYAA26lF.jpg

Absolutely magnificent! A champion of our club. Still sad he is gone...sniff

If we get anything equivalent to round 3 for Clark, we'll be doing well. If we even get a couple of clubs interested, we'll be doing well. The situation is the same as with any sale. It's the buyer who sets the price, and in Mitch's case, with his history and things as they are, he's just not worth much.

Lumumba on the other hand, is a reliable and consistent first 22 player, and as such, a solid second rounder.

Computer says no.

I agree the computer would say no but will be interesting to see how all the horse trading does pan out.. The trade week often throws up some strange deals

True, but up until last year we were usually the ones on the "strange" end of the deal.

If his body was right physically, there is every chance depression could stop him playing. He retired due to his depression and inability to get on the park. The two are linked, but to say that there is no reason he cannot play if he is not injured is incorrect.http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-04-08/demon-clark-retires

"Clark told the club his battle with mental illness would not allow him to commit to a full-time career at the Demons."

But you are correct in that the narrative is now being manipulated by clubs and his manager.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this - I think it's clear his inability to play this year or last year was clearly down to his lisfranc and then repeated soft tissue injuries

The mental injury may have exacerbated his situation but I don't think it was the cause.

Freo paid a third round pick 55 for Scott Gumberton last year.

IMO Mitch is a far greater reward than Gumby was ever going to be with similar risk.

Late 2nd early 3rd round pick 35-45 min for Mitch.

Although I might be dreaming???

Bloke I played with today (golf) said less to do with depression and more to do with "I don't want to be here!" take that as you will.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
