Someone mentioned his name before about him mentioning it would take us 3 years to get us up to full fitness.

We are in our third year now and we seem to still struggle to run out games.

What are everyones thoughts on Misso? Is our fitness improved or is it really a mental side thats a challenge for the players.

Thoughts?

How many changes have occured over the three years he has been listed, let alone just this year. Lots of the players fitness is much better than it has ever been and will continue to improve.

It's just the fact that we make ourselves run a lot more than necessary due to turning it over so much.

We have no issue running out games.

We have issues kicking, handballing and spreading.

How is that the fault of the fitness coach?

We've had pretty good injury runs the last 2 years. You always get the freak injuries like Trengove's foot or Hogan's back, but Grimes is our only soft tissue injury of the year from the senior side and he has a history of them.

He was involved in two successful regimes (Sydney and St.Kilda) before he came here. So, one would assume he didn't suddenly lose his knowledge overnight. I don't think it's his fault the players are mentally fragile and used to losing (which effects running out games). I also think we've had a pretty good run with soft tissue injuries in recent times. Misson's not the problem.

Yep some pretty valuable points. I do admit I completely forgot about our good run with injuries this year so he gets points for that.

Anyone know his contract status?

I'm pretty sure it's up at the end of this year.

Will he stay on? Will Collingwood poach him given their injury run this year? Will Roos bring in mate Brett Stephens?

Who really knows, just more stuff for us to go on about in the off season. Seems more interesting than the season itself these days sad as it is.

I thought the thread was going to suggest he plays for us.....can't be as bad as some of our players.

Yeah, that bloody Mission hey... Couldn't get the best out of Maloney, or Trengrove, then there was Clarke, just hope he doesn't ruin Geddah....

The Dave Mission experiment hey?
Is that the follow up band to the Alan Parson's Project?

On to the next one hey dazzle? The Salem one crashed and burned so let's hope you do better with this one.

Crashed and burn? Last I look this was a footy discussion board?

Anyway in regards to the spelling didn't noticed till mentioned.

Dam autocorrect!

We would be fine if the ball didn't keep getting kicked straight back over their heads every time they go forward!

Nearly impossible to measure, but clubs try too measure the impact of fitness gurus.

We were told our list was 50% down on fitness levels and it would take 3 preseasons to fix.

Well the 3rd pre has been and he looks like getting a fourth.

Most measurements of the fitness levels are public knowledge,The judgement of a footy team is recovery rate, recovery from soft tissue injury rate, and the ability to run out games. In the order.

No doubt PRs gameplan has altered some of these orders at the fitness level,And i for one am expecting slight changes in the preseason and expect the gameplan to be held longer through games and the season.

Unfortunately we cant judge to much until the end of next season,Maybe some of the last preseaon injuries were a result of the PR way of doing things from previous management{neeldy}.

Totally unmeasurable science.

We may or may not be fit enough. But our players aren't strong enough. Given the coaching team have had to work on (a) fitness, (b) individual skill improvement © gameplan and (d) strength, it's not really a surprise that there is still so much to be done. We really did go a long way backwards between 2007 and 2013.

I copped it bigtime from posters for saying this.

But coming from a footy background there were things that you could see during games that were really bad during this time.

On and off the ground was a real worry, and yes this list is paying for it,especially when neeldy saw the printouts of previous preseasons and gps numbers, his first comment was"we are 50% behind every afl training scheme.

Some comments i made after 186 were based on some of the things did and didnt do during games that were clearly form lack of training /bad habits and lack of clear basic coaching.

The current list has left over players from that time and PR made comment before he coached us"something is wrong there"

"no club or group of players can be that bad"

Proof has been in the pudding.

This guy was from the Neeld era. Almost enough said at that point.

He had a contract for 2014 and with the way we were bleeding cash last year I think he survived because we could not afford to pay out another one.

I will be very surprised if he is part of the FD in 2015.

Also from the Paul Roos era at the Swans. And a premiership.

Another way of looking at it could be how much worse would / could we have been without him?

After all, he isn't the skills coach - if we have one we should demand a refund or sue him for fraud!

And he isn't the psychologist - ^^

And the saints where they played in three grannies and came one point from a flag.

Perhaps this could be a player salary component issue.

As we are required to pay our players the same list amount (salary cap) as other clubs when setting the salary we apply a fitness level same as other clubs players on that level . If you cant sprint at the same level you pay for a sprint coach out of your salary Same system for other skills ie same salary level as key forward for Geelong or pay for your own kicking coach. This might provide some incentive to improve and at least reduce the cost to the club and its supporters

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
