Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

*audible groan* "That's so unlike Sloaney.."

Riccutio could've at least tried to mask his bias. A vague attempt would've been nice.

So true!

He sounds like he is in tears most of the time anyway....

I listened to the 1st quarter on 5AA and I honestly thought that NOT ONE Dees player had touched the ball!!!

If you don't see it, what can possibly be said?

Jack Grimes has played more good games than bad and can win you a match with a punch of the footy.

As your post suggests - you are taken by clangers and mistakes.

Good players make them, because they get the footy, that is the risk you take when you go and get the footy.

It's the safe players that get easy kicks and let others do the hard things that you don't want too many of.

You say he screwed up a mark in the back line, I say he screwed up a great reading of the play.

I'm getting sick of sounding like a broken record on Terlich and Grimes, so I'll just pipe down. People know my views on them. I'll leave it at that.

But then one of our boys from a set shot 40 metres out almost directly in front ,missed everything. Forgotten who it was.

BotheJetta and JKH missed everything when going for goal at diff stages during the match.

The thing is Jetta didn't really provide a lot of run. He's not good at that. And him cramping in the last quarter is a worry. He wasn't played forward as he was in his first 2 weeks back at times. He was thrown a good opponent and told to use his strengths which are that he's a damn pest one on one. Very good tackle, stronger than he looks and reads the play coming in.

I'm keen to see him back it up but the trade mark Roos about the situation was that he put a guy in a position to do what he's good at.

Jetta played on Betts and kept him quiet. That would've surprised me before the game. Jetta played on Betts and not only kept him quiet but took strong over head contested marks by really clever positioning. That I wouldn't ever believe. I'm going to watch at least the first half again to just revel in how good Jetta (and Grimes and others) were in the backline. Adelaide got one goal in the first minute and another in the last minute of the entire half!

I took him "cramping" as Chel$ea tactics. Slow the game down. I could be wrong, I guess.

AM late but big hats off to Jack Grimes - I have been pretty harsh on him lately but deserves a lot of credit after the weekends game, very happy to be proven wrong you'll keep if you keep playing gems like that...

Good to see some younger blokes stand up - that's what excited me, we didn't rely on one or 2 blokes it was a team effort

ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE

(Ashley Porter)

Jack Viney (Melbourne) 8

Chris Dawes (Melbourne) 8

Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide) 8

Bernie Vince (Melbourne) 7

Sam Jacobs (Adelaide) 7

The Age have got to be kidding putting Sam Jacobs in the votes. What a joke

How the heck is Dom Tyson not in the votes? Second most disposals on the ground (the most for the winning team) and he kicked the winning goal. Staggering. Absolutely staggering. Shows Porter has no idea.

Should have drawn the player and hand balled over to Dawes for an easy goal but he didn't and missed.

I saw someone else post this after the match the other night. I watched closely when viewing the replay on Saturday night and I just don't believe the above to be the case. Frawley had someone right on his hammer and Dawes was in the square, outpositioned. Kicking for goal was the right move. He just needed to execute it.

Yes i know. But Adelaide had serious momentum when it happened. Would have levelled the scores.

What a stressfull Quarter it was!!!

I guess the stress got to Sloane too. Funny as now that we are applying hardness and pressure consistently, we are seeing the opposition wilt at critical moments.

Terlich does turn it over too much but he he is always the first man to the next contest to make amends. Also, Frawley, Rivers, Leoncelli, one of the Febeys were horrible kicks early on and they turned out ok. There have been tons of people who got better, Terlich should not be replaced just yet.

Terlich knows when he's stuffed up and he goes straight back in to the fray to try and make amends; he isn't going to be a star or even a good player but you can't doubt his courage or his determination. I guess you have to look at the list and see who it is we have to replace him.

I'd hate to see him dropped for a confidence player who will fall apart if something goes wrong in the game, or if he stuffs up.

The best win I have seen in a long time (except when firing up the replays on you tube)

Watching again, these things stand out:

Chris Dawes was BOG, Wayne Carey would have been happy with that game, his physical presence hunting the crows players was terrifying, I would crap my dacks, knowing he'd turned up at half back, about to tackle me. His contest was 1st class and he demonstrated great skills, leadership and heart (he was unfit three weeks ago and moved like he was on a motorbike yesterday).

Viney had an even better game than the Carlton match, what a trajectory he's taking, I was unsure whether he would get past the bomb it long mentality last year, but he is demonstrating vision as well as heart (Beemer had heart, but his vision was missing). As other have said, he will be feared, matches Hodge and Mitchell for toughness.

I reckon Terlich stopped many Crow runs, yes the disposal was terrible, but he sucked the wind out of the Crows going forward, so on balance worthwhile, ran straight at the ball with eyes on it, If he could kick as well he would be elite (Worsfold type) and we would all be gobsmacked, so I'm happy to take the neutralised attacks.

JKH, What a brave kid, many have a skill base, few have the heart he has, truly impressed, we get to see those skills because of his heart, massive tick.

Watts, a good game, not his best but loved the way he got back on the park after he hurt his back (I'm super nervous about our team for the Bulldogs, I reckon a few of our players are going to be injured or pretty bloody sore this week, expect a light run at training). But his running into goal was fantastic, he backed himself and won on a big stage in front of a nervous crowd, this is worth truckloads in terms of confidence.

Frawley, not what we had hoped for this week but how good are his wheels? He slipped into sixth gear and reminded me of Lomu running, who would step in front of that bus? Shame about missing the goal, DL posters reckon disinterested? come on now, serious?

Cross, made of iron, took and laid some big tackles/hits that were life saving.

Vince, how nice is it to see someone who loves football and finds it fun, lets hope that rubs off on the others who've had some pretty dark times, so happy with this trade, you can see the rascal glint in his eye though.

Umpires, yes they were crap, but the Dawes goal was a gift, (owed, they missed a few others for Dawes). The best thing was that none of the players let this or the crowd put them off, this shows huge belief (as Viney stated about the plan).

We hurt other teams, fair dinkum we've found some mongrel, while others have rightly enthused about the many good things we saw on the weekend I love (in a deep and pure way, normally reserved for my kids) that we are not getting pushed off the ball, not in a 'Robert Walls sniper [censored] way' but in the best, 'spirit of the contest', 'why AFL is the greatest game on earth' way. God I love the coach.

Edit: terrible spelling/punctuation even by my standards.

Because if you watch the game you actually don't notice Tyson and then realise at the end that he has got it 30 times.

Then you watch again and concentrate on Tyson and see how much good work he actaully does. He seriously goes about it with a minimum of fuss and and looks unobtrusive in what he does.

And yes...he should have been in the votes.

After watching it again last night ( 3rd time in full I might add :) )still can't believe they didin't pay Ro Bails grab - that was a dead set belter. Add him to the list with Pedo and Jetta - I was wrong you can actually play footy

Given how well Gold Coast (5-2) are going, I guess an 8 point loss to them wasn't such a bad result after all.

The result may not be terrible, but that first half was pretty terrible.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
