Post match discussion - Round 6

I don't know, I think Roos' game style is at odds with the club's need for off-field prosperity. I understand this is all necessary to weed out the bad from the good, and create good habits and a consistent game plan, but this is as ugly I've seen the club play over a period of time, and it's turning people away.

The club needs a win. It's a double-edged sword atm. I'm not sure the club as the flexibility to be playing this sort of footy. It desperately needs 6 wins this year.

Nathan Jones is a legitimate A grader.

Salem will do as he pleases, even in AFL.

Terlich will strengthen Casey.

Tom McDonald is lucky Garland is injured.

Viney and Tyson are taking this club forward.

Brynes will strengthen the development squad at Casey.

Dawes is worth 10 goals, gives us structure.

Watts should've stuck to basketball.

I love Roos.

Agree with some of what you say but Tommy Mc did his job tonight. Viney, Tyson, Salem and Hogan when he is fit are going to take this club forward. By the way, how lucky are we to have Cross. What he is teaching the young guys at the club is invaluable. Last year we picked up Roden, Gillies and Byrnes. This year Cross and Vince. This can't be underestimated.

I think:

JKH is looking like a win for us.

Salem showed some real class.

Vince just had his best game in the H&A season.

Cross fought hard.

Jones was Jones.

Pedersen played his best game for the Dees

Dunn is very solid these days

And...

Watts was soft although he picked up a bit after Roos got stuck in to him.

Howe was similar to Watts, but less soft and more lazy.

Nup, if we played an any other game with this list we would be sunk big time. Roos is on the money, it's the best move we've made in 50 years to have him at the club (Northey close)...

Chris Johnson just said on 3AW he would not expect to see JW til mid season after that effort and who could argue. He had become a liability and needs to get a little confidence at Casey.

Was a pretty horrid game of footy but we are seeing some good signs, particularly our pressure at times. The big difference tonight was how clean Sydney are in pinpoint passing, whereas ours was pretty poor too often.

Pederson was a massive eye opener for me.

I had to look twice when I seen Cross take overhead marks today, I was thinking who is that.

Cross is ULTRA impressive. Most important pick up, he is a leader and teacher.

How about the chain of holding the balls in the second quarter? After the two were paid against Neville Jetta and Dom Tyson, I laughed like an absolute madman when one was paid in our favour (to Nathan Jones). What a joke.

I was wondering why the Swans midfield were wearing green. Very odd.

Swans disposal was shocking (throws, tipping the ball out, scooping it to teammates, outright dropping the ball) but they were never penalized. And as for holding the ball... how do I get a seat near the umpires race?

Really impressed with Watts form tonight. Particular happy with the effort put into waving of arms and pointing in various directions. Running on and off the bench was breath taking and running consistently and beautifully around the ground keeping a watchful eye on the opposition. Am sure the Casey develop squad is waiting with trembling anticipation.

He's the leader we've needed since Junior, a great get.

For me it was the crunching tackles he laid on and the second efforts.

Better than Spencer.

Jamar was good, even kicked the ball.

Haha was about to ask if he did!

Agreed. Love Jake's effort, but with Jamar having hardly played in the last couple of years, I'd forgotten how much better he was.

Well said

I think Nasher summed it up pretty well - there are parts of the game where you feel like we're a team that's around 9-14 on the ladder, which is an improvement on 2012-2013. Salem looked great, JKH played his best game of the year, M Jones was superb all night, Pedersen's getting better and Dunn and McDonald were solid in defence.

However...

Watts and Howe must be dropped. Their efforts tonight were absolutely disgraceful. They both jogged around, neither seeming to care about anything. Howe just wants to take MOTY each week, that's enough for him. I'm disgusted by his effort tonight. Watts was no different. Both must be dropped.

Byrnes is also inept, no idea how he got selected.

As for the rest, they all tried very hard tonight which was reflected in the tackle count and not being totally disgraced in the clearances. But we have far too many players who just do not have the skills to play consistent AFL-quality football. The amount of times we turned the ball over under no pressure at all (three times in the first quarter alone) is not good enough; it will hold us back until we get rid of the stragglers in the side who cannot kick.

Anyone who doesn't get home and automatically delete the game from their PVR/IQ fast forward to 3/4 time and have a look at Roos' frustration/inability to fathom the ineptitude of Watts & Howe - and then have a look at the players reactions. Watts looks like he wants to be anywhere except playing a game of footy and Howe looks in disbelief like he can't believe Roos is having a go at him. I had flashbacks for a second to Zantuck/Barassi though of course not to the same extent. It's only a brief shot as the camera pans away but you can see Howe just standing there and looks like he's about to say something back to Roos.

I didn't see this at the game - he gave them a spray did he?

The frustrations of season 2014 continues.

Disappointed with our running tonight, poor both offensively and defensively.

The difference in disposal between the two teams was significant - they hit targets all night, we wait too long to honour good leads and end up kicking to a contest, usually without precision.

Having said that, it was yet another game where were still in the contest until quite late; another sign of how far we have come. We only needed a couple of consecutive goals and we might have had a ballgame.

Howe was hopeless, Watts useless, Byrnes is finished and Bail played poorly in his milestone game.

Well done to Salem on a fine first game, made an impact when he came on.

On Jamar, he was a definite improvement in the ruck over Spencer, but his work around the ground didn't do much for me. Couldn't mark the ball, kept running under it and mistiming his leaps. Probably helped us from getting destroyed in the clearances, but I don't share the same enthusiasm as some others do.

Pedersen was one of the few who ran all day and was willing to link up. Dunn was impressive all night in defence whilst I thought McDonald held up well.

Pederson really played an outstanding game, especially considering what we've come to expect from him. Effort and he actually was strong in the air - he really knows how to throw his weight around. If he can keep playing like this, he'll be handy in the swing man role.

Matt Jones' development has been awesome so far. If he stays on this trajectory he'll go from bit part player to an essential part of the midfield. It's great to see.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
