GAME DAY - Round 6

OK. Half Time.

Thing's I've loved:

Viney took a mark in front of the leading Franklin. Stretched right up and left himself wide open with no idea how close Franklin was. THe kid has no sense of self-preservation.

Nev hurling himself into the air to spoil a certain mark, winning the ground ball and getting hit high for what would have been a free kick had he been wearing just about any other jumper.

Jamar's effort around the ground. He's not getting many disposals, but he's providing a physical presence more than he has for the last few years.

The overall physical effort from the team.

Things i've hated:

The [censored]-poor one-eyed umpiring.

Watts' inability to chase, compete for a contested ball, jump for a mark with both hands...

Concerns:

Pretty sure we'll see at least one of our players suspended out of this.

I'd love to see us make the most of our inside 50s in the second half to put on some scoreboard pressure.

Agree entirely, just need a few guys to stand up and prove their worth. Frawley, jones, vince Dawes and grimes are all playing well defensively or with great effort, just polish up on the foot skills and we improve from an 8 goal a week side to a 12 goal a week side.

I'd love to include watts but I feel he has peaked. Not a jab at him, just don't see the desire in him that I see in 99% of other afl players

The boys just lack the composure when its a hot footy. Quite a few times they've been off and a fumble at a critical time has killed our surge forward.

The umpiring has killed this great game we love... Thanks Wayne Campbell.

Who would've thought the Gieschen-era would be looked back upon fondly? Seriously watch them come out and say "nothing's changed in the directions to the umpires since last week" - I've been stuck on the couch the last couple of days sick so I've seen pretty much all the games start to finish and the umpiring in all has been pathetic and has clearly changed since last week. Love to see the AFL defend it.

At least we are watchable every week. Last year we would of been on 15 points but Sydney would be 132. Watts should be subbed for Salem. Pedo and Dunn are having a dead set crack. The Ruling of holding the ball is the problem not the umpires. You just need to attempt to dispose of the ball and in doing so you can drop the ball and it's called play on. The rule needs to be changed as it was only brought in to ease congestion. It has taken away one of the major fundamentals of the game. You used to HAVE to handball or kick the ball.

Hoping this conversation is going down right now.. Roos to Watts. Wattsy put the red vest on... I'll back Salem to have more composure and impact in his first game than you've had in two weeks.

Roos to watts, what wrong TB, I'm having a bad hair day? Huh? it'll be OK Jack, we'll rest you up for next week some time.

I think Watts' problem is that he was always able to get by in the junior level because of his talent, size and athleticism and he's just never learnt to do the more basic things that less naturally gifted players have had to learn right from the beginning. I don't think it's always down to lack of effort with him, and I don't think we need to belabour the point that he's never going to be someone with the drive or desire of Nathan Jones, say, he just needs to know that not everything done on a football field has to be done gracefully. He's almost trying to hard to make everything he does look poised and effortless, with the result that he just ends up looking like he's not trying. Take note of all the times he goes for the ball one-handed or stops and props looking for the killer pass - sometimes it's better just to run in a straight line at the ball and boot it away haphazardly once you get it. It doesn't look as good, but it would certainly be more effective.

OMG - Sydney player just caught red headed - "made an attempt" - this is NOT in the rule book. Haven't a clue

The poor tackles and lackadaisical approach by Watts is one thing, but the fact he handballs off in the back line and instead of shepherding for his teammate, waltzes off to try and get an easy handball back makes it the worst.

It makes me sad to say it, but he's just not a footballer. I'm sick of telling friends he'll be something and he repaying us by offering this crap.

the thing that annoys me about him atmo, is not that he's timid, he can grow out of that if he wants to; it's the the squibbing of his turn, 'to bust his arze chasing' when its his go.

.... that doesn't require guts, nor smarts, just dedication & care for your teammates & the jumper.

get him out.

& dock his pay.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
