Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Ryan O'Keefe would be a handy pick up.

36 touches on the weekend in the reserves.

Apparently won't be getting his contract renewed at seasons end.

His last year at the Swans, I think O'Keefe is good for another 2-3 after this year.

A side consisting of O'Keefe and Cross is a pretty professional outfit.

Good teachers.

The game is quickly passing O'Keefe by. 3 years would definitely be unrealistic, 2 well...............maybe, would be limping towards the line. Would have him over Byrnes every day of the week though. But Byrnes will be gone come years end.

No, we've got all the teachers we need now. We need players, love Ryan and what he has done but he is done. 36 touches in a sub standard comp that I think Kolodjashij had 50 plus before they lost count is no recommendation. Having said that at least he is putting his name up and not giving it in like some past MFC player have and are doing.

If we didn't have Cross then it would be a yes from me but we can't have the 2 of them now.

Every club in the comp will be circling gws, we need to use our cap room and try and get a couple of good kids

Would be stoked with treloar, tommlinson and orourke

Its not the money thats the main thing, its a great Club with excellent facilities, Coach, etc, that makes the environment for success & happiness.

this is what will attract them.

Ryan O'Keefe will help if we get him, re our development & culture & teaching. this is the pathway to make us the place to be for other young players.

If we had of had players of the Ilk of O'Keefe, Chappy, Sewell, JnrMcD, over the last 2 - 3 years we would much further ahead with our development than we are now.

I hope they have a chat with Ryan.

GWS is a potential goldmine. They've had 18 first round draft picks since coming into the AFL and plenty of them aren't getting games due to injury and form. In the right environment they could develop into great players. Dom Tyson is a great example. I'd definately be looking at guys like O'Rourke and Tomlinson at years end.

sounds familiar...

ok,i will say it.

hoges.

should also say,PR is one of the few coaches in the league to want to give up something to get something.

most clubs are scared to give one away, but roos doesnt mind this as he respects the trade cycle.

I know I'm well late, but i had to comment… HAHA

Im sorry, thats your opinion.

but seriously dude, if we wanted to trade hogan, we could almost ask for anyone.

Hogan has the potential to be a monster.

Zac clarke is a handy ruckmen and to his credit he still has time to develop.

but if we are talking freo players to target in a trade with hoges, id be talking players of the fyfe quality.

we would probably need to sweeten the deal a tad.

But ideally we keep hogan. we pick up patton in exchange for an early pick, the pair train under dawes and he can expose them to the force, teach them to make light sabers, buid robots n that sort of thing.

If we got pick 2 and 3 but lost chip I would try to get 2 of the following

Jesse lonegan (gc) and their first round pick maybe 12

Jonothan o'Rourke and the first rounder they activated pick 10

Mitch wallis and first round pick

Jack Steven

Zac Clarke and first round pick

Shaun Edwards and first round pick

I think GWS are suffering from the same problem we've had over the years: a dearth of guiding wisdom from established, senior players. They might have been gifted years of early picks in the draft, but without a plethora of senior players to guide their development on and off field, they'll remain miles behind the Gold Coast's conversely excellent development (relative to the same timeframe).

Sheedy and their recruitment team were more interested in getting every top draft pick they could, and expected them to just flourish into a cohesive unit (sound familiar?). Sorry folks, but it doesn't work that way. The GC are turning into a powerhouse off the back of Ablett's sensational leadership.

Dawes training up Hogan (and in a perfect world Patton) will be a real coup for us. Who are the Giants' KPF's meant to learn from and develop under?

i am sure we will work hard to poach some more young talent from GWS

They have a stockpile of elite young talent and you can bet some of them will want to come home to Vic like Dom and Taylor Adams already have

i was only responding to another post{maybe read the whole page}but to clarify, the poster remarked "we need a ruckman what would you swap for zac clarke".

i said id swap an unplayed unknown 19yo.

wasnt saying lets do it,was just saying that would get the deal done.

bear in mind PR is the better of coaches thats willing to trade a goodie for a gooder one.

The only one of these worth a first round pick is Jack Steven.

As for ROK, if he was desperate to keep on playing, we should be able to get him on a 1 year deal like Cross, with a view to him progressing into an assistant coaching role, essentially starting as an onfield assistant.

With the lack of a second runner, and young teams struggling to organise themselves onfield, I think it significantly increases the onfield value of wily veterans with good communication skills.

If he plays out his days at Casey, I'd still be happy to have someone like him drilling good habits into the kids.

At the expense of a Nicholson, Blease or Tapscott, I'd be fairly happy to have ROK.

Yeah, look, I would have him if his head was already half in the coaching sphere and he was happy playing a few games here and there. There is a lot to be said for that, but I don't know if he would be ready for that.

You'd have said the same about a Dom Tyson & pick 9 for pick 2 proposal this time last year.

I'd say on reflection it was well worth it.

No, very different. His exposed form was excellent and you may note that I've always been pro Tyson and have seen him as being a future A grader within the next couple of seasons. A few had a go at me for that.

The players listed above (except Steven) are at best 2nd rounders. If we have a top 3 pick it will want to be for an A grader given that it will be for a KPP this year. Last year the trades were for mids, some teams are desperate for a KPF. To give them that they will need to pay overs.

Rhino is good for an assistant coaching role, but not playing. He's 33, would be 34 at the start of next season. You want him playing for us at 37? He's no Fletcher, hasn't had the anti ageing drugs.

I would have to say that Lonergan is easily worth a first round pick, but not a top 4 pick (ours) unless we get some decent change. He is the perfect Cross mentee/replacement. I would have him close behind Shiel in order of preference for players from GWS/GC

Rosa as a free agent, O'Keefe as a delisted free agent (just like the Cross deal) and Plowman from GWS, he'll be our Sam Fisher/Grant Birchall for years to come.

As a priority I would try to look at another tall, be it a key forward/defender/ruck.

I know that these are always the hardest thing to get, but with Clark gone and Frawley possibly gone, we need to bolster up our KP stocks.

Patton would be amazing, although I think he and Hogan are a bit too similar.

Stephen Coniglio, I know he is Perth boy but is best friends with Tyson and has not lived up to expectations yet.

Would add depth. What is every ones opinion on him?

Also is it just me taking real notice of Taylor Walker interacting really close with B Vince (as excepted), M Clisby, Chris Dawes and Dunny on Instagram and Twitter. Becoming a trend.

You would normally see this much social networking with teammates but I am becoming increasingly optimistic about this I say watch this space at the end of 2014.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
