DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4

Demonland

Recommended Posts

6 - Chip Frawley - some game up forward, 14 marks and a couple of goals

5 - Nathan Jones - a captain to truly be proud of, completely pantsing the opposition's skipper

4 - Daniel Cross - what a great pick up, especially for our list, every single player should take a leaf out of his book

3 - Jake 'The Snake' Spencer - killed Warnock and threw himself about (as usual but to great effect today)

2 - Chris Dawes - even if statistically he didn't have a great day, I am not sure we win that game if he isn't playing

1 - Jack Viney - love the way he throws himself in, and burst away from a couple of packs with great effect

Most were great today, maybe Vince and Tyson (who was tagged) were down, but that can only be a good thing that two of our more consistent performers had quiet days and we still got up reasonably comfortably

This was actually difficult to do which hasn't been the case in a long time, some who missed out are very unlucky namely Matt Jones, Dunn, Grimes, Bail & TMac

6. Frawley

5. N.Jones

4. Spencer

3. Viney

Had almost 22 classy performers today - very hard to split the votes

6 Frawley

5 N Jones

4 Grimes

3 Viney

2 M Jones

1 Bail (best game of his career)

Also super impressed with Dunn (am starting to think he's one of our top 5 players on the list), McDonald, JKH, Kent (he's everything Tapscott can do, but better), and Dawes.

I rhink you might be forgetting Ro Bail's amazing game against Sydney in 2010 or 2011, but it was a very good game.

Guys sorry that l cannot vote as l have not seen the game but l must say (sitting at a waterside cafe in sunny Cyprus) that it is great to hear that we beat Carlton, especially as l confidently picked against the this week!

6 - Frawley: masterstroke from Roos to switch him forward.

5 - Jones: completely pantsed Murphy. Bullet-like kicks. Is he officially 'elite'? Pretty close.

4 - Grimes: was starting to have doubts. Immense today.

3 - Viney: absolute gun. Extra points for his smart-alec bum tap to Warnock after Bail goal.

2 - Bail: speaking of that guy, he really proved a few wrong today (including me)

1 - McDonald (really good defensively as always and minimised errors by foot)

Apologies, Spencer, Cross (one of the recruits of the year), Dawes (worth every cent!) Matt Jones, and a few others.

Well done Sylvia - very good assessment and you were first in with the comments which shows you are not just following everyone else's lead.

Today was actually the first time I've thought Jonesy was elite - I know he's courageous and all that and yes he's one two B&Fs, but I've never really felt he was special - just a really hard nut.

But today I thought he was a genuine star of the game with his evasion and vision and run a bit Ablettesque - really looking forward to see if he gets Gaz next week.

My six is identical with yours, except I felt Cross was on a par with your bottom three - ie: Viney, Bail and Tom Mc.

Had 9 players I genuinely wanted to give votes to. I love it when it's hard for this reason.

6. Nathan Jones - exceptional game. I've come to expect nothing less. Seems to find a new gear every season. Pantsed Murphy.

5. James Frawley - absolutely huge as the CHF. Incredible game. I think he surprised himself on a few occasions when he found himself on the end of the ball when not expecting to and spilled a few marks. Who knew he had this in him?

4. Jack Grimes - was in everything.

3. Tom McDonald - has turned in to a super-reliable key defender. He's so quick and uses his body well; I'm at the point now where I'll trust him to win or at least neutralise most 1 on 1s. No real mistakes with the ball in hand today either.

2. Daniel Cross - I always knew what he was like as a player, but now that I'm able to watch him more closely than I ever did when he was at Footscray, I can't believe they got rid of him. A player who just wills himself to be first on the ball. Love it.

1. Matt Jones - for the ceaseless run two-way run. I don't reckon there is a player in our team who runs as hard "the other way". Not a polished user of the ball, but I expect the coach loves him.

Bail, Spencer and Viney were the other ones I didn't have room for.

Well done to JKH on his first full game too. He may play an important part in our forward line. I get the impression he sleeps facing the goals. He always seems to know where they are

6- Jones... super consistent and deserved this win more than anybody else.

5- Frawley... dominated up forward

4- Spencer... by far the best game I've seen him play. He doesn't take [censored] from anyone

3- Bail... ran all day and kicked a couple of important goals.

2- Viney... provided some crucial grunt in the middle at key stages in the game. Not afraid to take the game on.

1- McDonald... He's getting better every week.

Many honourable mentions too: Grimes, M Jones, Cross just to name a few.

It's so nice to have too many good players to pick from, for once.

Re-watched the match and had to put Bail in there. By far the best match I've seen him play.

I agree with these and I thought it was a rwally even contribution across the board. Would be really diffixult to come up with a bottom 6.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
