A lot of water's flowed under the bridge since Melbourne last appeared at the home of football in round 21 on Sunday, 18 August, 2013 when we took on a different side from Western Australia, the Dockers.

We kicked 5.8.38 and lost by 95 points.

Our last goal at the MCG was kicked that day by Jeremy Howe at the midpoint of the third quarter.

Our last win at the ground (or anywhere else if you exclude the NAB Challenge) was on 29 June, 2013 when we beat the Western Bulldogs by 3 points.

It's been a long time in between drinks.

Well that was cheerful ........ did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

It is amazing how much one week can change everyone's perceptions. If only we won last week we would be talking about an upset today.

You want cheerful?

Excuse me while I dig out my jokebook.

Merely pointing out the facts - it's been a long time since we've had the opportunity to rejoice over a victory and it's about time we did.

Now, why did the chicken cross the road?

I am really interested to see how our midfield stacks up.

I don't rate the Eagles midfield that well. I do rate everything else they have though they don't seem to have many holes in their list. Eagles look set to smash us today but I'm hoping for a contest.

That has already begun.

Some are already expecting a flogging and have a few choice cuts to sink their teeth into if it happens.

Byrnes, Bail, Toumpas, Watts, Frawley, Grimes, Trengove, and Pedersen.

Never mind our injury list and our lack of talent - let's rip these [censored]ers to shreds for having the temerity for playing for our club.

Annoyed that I'm missing it due to being overseas. Will watch the reply from the airport lounge hopefully.

Here's hoping we put up a good fight. I don't expect to win, but a big loss will really hurt.

Go Dees!

I wouldn't be surprised if we repeat 5.8.38 today. The key is restricting West Coast to under 38 points.

My last recollection of rejoicing at the G was round 4 2010 when we did the unbeaten top of the table lions over by 55 points.

Mixed emotion for today .... Not to sure what to expect. The weagles will end up be far to talk for us I think. Let's just hope they give them a shake and have us leave saying they had a fair crack

I have heard that if you score one or more points than the opposition it's called 'winning' (I hope I pronounced that correctly).

Win again next week and that's called 'a winning streak' - it has happened before.

(Apologies to Major League)

all he did was state the facts

PS we didn't win last week.. another fact for you

This will get ugly.

I'd like to see us play a completely [censored] style of football to make it a soccer-score style of match and see if we can outscore them 8 goals to 6. More likely we'll lose between 80-120 points though.

can we kick the ball across our back line for a long enough time?

The Bulldogs did that in 2000 against Essendon, unfortunately we aren't nearly a good enough side to repeat that feat. Wish it were true though

Just an honest appraisal I would think.

I dont think we are a chance to win but I also dont think we will get smashed if T-Mac plays and we level the midfield battle. Our improved midfield gives us a chance to level the midfield battle which we have never had before. Assuming T-Mac plays we actually man up on them forward line quite well. The issue will be our inability to kick a score that can compete and keep us deep into the game.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
