Turns out col is right and Lyon is wrong, according to AFLPA the players should not need to be in their best condition at the start of preseason, they say the players should not train in their time off

Where is the rule in the AFLPA code of conducts that states that you also need to eat 1/4 of a groper, $20 worth of chips washed down with a few beer bongs most Friday nights as you can't be arsed eating a salad?

Good luck to Colin, he was one of my favourites in his prime. People will forget that he was a GOOD player in the Bailey era.

Getting pick 23 (Bernie Vince) for him has worked out well, hasn't it?

What a great trade for Bernie.

A great Roos deal.

(cue perennial whingers)

But of course it was melbourne's fault for not developing Col.....

Sylvia retires after parting ways with Fremantle

Does this tip the scales of what is the best trade Melbourne has done? Only ended up playing 6 games, where Vince has had at least 6 best ons for us so far

Tom Scully (55 games and counting) = Hogan (4+) and Dawes (33+) (and Barry (5))

or

Colin Sylvia (6 games) = Bernie Vince (25 games and counting)

Col gone from Freo.. What a waste of talent, real shame. Thought he'd flourish at freo

The worst part of it is that he got away with wasting his talent for years while at Melbourne.

This part made me laugh:

Sylvia said: “I would like to thank the Fremantle Football Club for the opportunity I was given to continue my AFL career after leaving Melbourne. While I have really enjoyed my time here, things haven’t gone entirely to plan in a football sense and I look forward to focusing on the next phase of my life.”

Sounds like he's having a great time in Perth, but bl##dy football is getting in his way.

A waste of talent, but he still gave us 150+ games of service and was an above average player. With the proper application and attitude, he could have been elite.

That being said, we've moved on.

Nah. He never completed a pre-season ....... that's what stood between Col and AFL stardom. Poor bugger!

I thought this thread was bumped to announce he will be back to play against us this week or got eaten by shark while surfing. Come to think of it he was a shark to manage to get all those games and big bucks for doing bugger all..

Apart from Trapper's final against Adelaide, Col played probably the best game I've seen a Demon play in the flesh, against Hawthorn in 09.

What an absolute waste of a career/opportunity/talent.

Interesting timing announcing his retirement in the lead up to us playing Freo...

Reported 1.4 million over 3 years for 6 games = $233,333 a game , don't feel anything but contempt for this self cantered [censored] bag

Why? Were you paying for it?

Good luck Sylvia with your future

He suffered the doldrums at a sub-standard MFC for many years... without complaint.

I respect that.

Best Wishes Col with the next phase of your life.

He represents the poor drafting & crap culture/development which occurred @ the club from mid 2000s to 2013... As we all aware of the failed early picks...

I wonder a player of his talent would have performed under Roos regime????

About as well as under the Lyon regime.

Im sorry to hear this. I always thought he'd show his great talent at Freo.

I cheered him on many occasions. All the best Colin.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
