Oh, I see.

Thomas just has Roos' best interests at heart, and is trying to help him...

You can't really believe that, can you?!

can you believe anything else?

I've not known grant to be truly vindictive, so he's either just stating thoughts, or he's sending a hint.

don't let your anger effect your perspective.

Yep its perspective, but I think GT is concerned Roos may cop some fallout fairly soon, if he continues it. I don't think Roosy is thinking about what he said from the negative perspective.

Good he's honest, but not IMO a bighead. just confident in what he's doing. a fineline to tread for the faint of heart.

Yes it is about perspective.

During the tanking saga I was completely pessed-off that Roos' instruction to his forward, during a NAB Cup game, not to kick a goal never received the serious attention it deserved. How much more evidence of not trying to win do you need than a coach telling a player not to kick goals? Now I just take those comments as the joke they were obviously intended as.

many games aren't truly tried to be won, when it suits the sides best interests. especially Pre season games.

even a home & away game recently in Perth, I think it was? HiHo

IMO, Grant would love to see the Dees climb up the ladder, especially over the Saints atm for a number of reasons.

Paul Roos is a premiership coach and one of the most respected figures in the game.

He knows how good he is, and he is confident in everything he does.

and the best part?

HE IS OURS

And Grant Thomas knows that we are about to turn the corner, hes a smart guy. Wish he was still on Footy Classified instead of Lloyd.

Roos can say and do whatever the hell he wants if it means making us a competitive force again. For the record though, I haven't noticed a huge amount of smugness. He's never bothered me in the same way as your typical arrogant coaches (Malthouse, B Scott, Lyon etc), in fact I've always quite liked him on a personal level.

Not angry in the slightest.

Just incredulous.

I don't think GT is necessarily vindictive either, but his image of Roos is clearly tainted and I think he does like to be seen as controversial.

He takes pleasure in voicing opinions that others may think then dismiss unspoken.

Usually for a good reason.

Quite correct and if he gets it right he comes out looking like a genius, if he gets it wrong no one remembers or cares.

He's a bit like some posters who resurrect their "winning posts" but you never see them bump a thread where they got it wrong.

btw I reckon he had a very good team when he was coach of St Kilda and should have won a flag, if he was a good coach he would have.

Associating Melbourne supporters with that flogg? Not as many Chinamen in China compared to how many times you slag of posters you don't agree with.

Roos words have a higher purpose than self adulation.

He is rebuilding the confidence of a broken club. He is trying to sell hope to members, administration and players.

As a coach his first job is to get the club to believe him. If he can't achieve that then we are roo ted.

So it's Chinamen is it; what about the Chinawomen, or don't they count in your World?

There are about a eight posters on here I don't like; you just happen to be one of them, never mind.

Exactly how I see it.

Roos is telling it like it is, but also selling the supporters hope, without spin.

you have to be a politician or retired poli. a twist of lemon, or is it a spin of rind?

do you own a blue tie?

If the best Thomas has is a slurring, strawman personal attack in an attempt to stay relevant, then good luck to him. He's a pig of a person, and if he wants to roll around in the mud then we should let him and think no more about it.

Posted

Love listening to GT as he never seems to tow the party line. I'm sure it's why Vlad hounded him out of football media - too much of a loose cannon and not controllable. He also constantly called city hall on their BS.

His coaching style was almost the polar opposite of Roos - attack, attack, attack.

Great to watch.

In a lot of ways it's a shame he never threw his hat in the ring for another gig once the Saints flicked him - he was clearly great with building belief in youngsters.

Posted

Thomas just calling out Roos high levels of self love, nothing we didn't know about Roos.

I didn't like Roos before he jumped aboard, but I don't think anyone can doubt that he isn't a great coach - he has always been a great coach.

Roos knowledge of the game is second to none, I don't care if he is a complete narc, he gets results. We need results.

Thomas is good value, but unfortunately he has the same problem as a lot of us on here, he doesn't know when to shut up, and it has cost him.

do you own a blue tie?....gee it used to be moccasins or trakky dacks, now it's neckwear, times have changed

here's a few bits...seems to not like Paul Roos

They were sooo bad they needed me. It shocked me into coaching them. We r so fortunate 2 have a humble man Roosy take job for $1.5M a yr

I'm a former teammate and coaching adversary so I get your drift. Roosy adores Roosy & generally Roosy comes 1,2 &3.

He is absolute right choice but.....that bloke in the mirror needs to have a word 2 him rather than telling him he's awesome

Roosy beautifully playing media on break. It's an orchestra. Detailing the depths of depravity and sick state Demons were in. Our Saviour

I'd adore me for as well for $1.5m - what's not to like?

Thomas straddles the line between forthright and provocation I think. I like that he has strong opinions and isn't afraid about being blunt about it, but sometimes I'm sure he voices them in a manner designed purely to get a reaction.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
