I am taking bets on whether Hird will ever be installed as an AFL Legend. Anyone want to back him?

The sad part is that Hird was a sensational player able to stand comfortably on the stage with names such as Ablett, Carey, Matthews, Barassi and Whitten.

He's just seen as a jerk now.

Indeed and that salary could be paid by any number of business EFC has connections with an the AFL would not care one jolt.

True. Though it may take a bit of cunning work to hide the payments since the business would want something in return. I expect many of us would have ideas on how it might be done without giving the AFL or other sponsors grounds for complaint.

I recon Hird is getting what he wanted all aong a big fight that will end up in his day in court. If that happens all the backroom work done by the AFL (in the interests of the competion) will be aired in public an will do no one any good

That's the only possible explanation for their behaviour - they want to take it to court.

I am on Demetrious side

Dont know why there is so much hate for him

Hes not the blatant drug cheat, Hird and Essendon are

And besides how can we hate AD when hes the one that got us peter Jackson :)

Hird spoiling for a fight. Desperate to ensure Ad cops it.

From the same article:

The issue has escalated as a result of Tania Hird's attack on the AFL yesterday, revealed exclusively in the Herald Sun.

Hilarious really how desperately the Hun want in on the action. Rupert must have been furious with all the Walkley attention the age got over the supplement scandal. As i have said Hird and News ltd is a marriage of convenience.

Lance Armstrong was an even better cyclist than Hird was a footballer.

He's an even bigger jerk.

not to mention Aussie Rules is an insignificant sport outside of this country

Hird is a nobody on the global sporting arena

In regards to elite-level sports people, he wouldn't be alone. Someone I know well did some work for an olympic champion, and after getting to know him, were of the opinion that "I wouldn't cross the road to xxx on him if he was on fire".

Not to say all champions needs to be bullies and egomaniacs … but it does seem to help.

martin vinnicombe

comes to mind as an arrogant elitist who refused to admit the drugs

then went onto every television show to sell his book about his minor drug conviction in sport

Agree 'Bob', but now he is not just seen as a jerk but proving it.

Keep Fighting the lost battle Essendrug...I hope the lot of them get absolutely slammed now.

Years of hardship and misery. The rest of the comp should just boycott them completely.

I always hated Carlton for there modus operandum, but at least they took their penalties and shut up.

Essendope are 10 times worse.

Bring in WADA soon....

The Melbourne 'thing' for want of a better title was an occurrence within AFL boundaries and jurisdiction . The messendon thing has pushed beyond those boundaries into a much bigger arena. One the AFL doesnt rule. WADA does.

Am happy for Melbourne to be scrutinised.

This is not a transgression against the AFL as was ours, supposedly ( though unproven etc ) Messendon has run foul of a much bigger set of rules

Why not BB as we must be the most investigated AFL Club surely there is no hidden secrets!

Other than possible infraction notices which come from outside the AFL, losing 3 draft picks and being removed from a finals series they couldn't win and which would have been tainted had they won any, IMO Essendon will end up with a very light penalty for their disgraceful behaviour during and after the supplements scandal. Rather than attacking AD and the AFL they should be kissing their collective behinds.

Their Chairman is one of Australia's wealthiest men and after this is all over he might just pay off the fines etc in one hit with a donation. At $900m we are not even talking about a month's interest. A Life Membership of the club could be his.

He might also get a game with his beloved Bombers as well next year if he's fit and the number of infractions is high enough.

It is going to be very interesting to see how the AFL deals with the problem of a club losing say 10 good players, if what is being mooted by many happens.

What will the AFL do to try and keep the club competitive and given the trouble they have had with Essendon, will that affect their resolve.

More litigation, threats to reveal what was really said in that phone conversation, a Fox Footy exclusive interview with one of Jimmy's boys outside the family mansion. AFL reinstates the points lost in 2013 and adds them to Essendon's 2014 tally. Matty Bate promoted from the Bombers VFL team. Hird and Andy Lovett making surprise comebacks (in Hird's case he gets an extra $1m paid into a Swiss bank account). There are lots of possible permutations and combinations and nothing would surprise any more.

Either Hird's missus is a little ignorant of all proceedings or shes despicably arrogant and culpable in full knowledge.

If you were Mrs Hird (not that there's anything wrong with that) wouldn't you insist on knowing what was going on? And wouldn't your public statements be calculated to preserve your comfortable lifestyle?

as suggested...the latter. Same tar.

I think we will find AD stepping down by the end of 2014 and taking up a position in the Men's Tennis Association.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
